Part 25

Pandora's Box

"what do you mean by Abhimanyu?" Manik asked Neyonika all baffled. "Who is Abhimanyu?" Alya asked as she was unaware of the story of the Malhotra's. Dhruv sighed an told Alya all about Manik and him being in love with Vaidehi and Vaishnavi and how they used feed on them and fed them their blood also finally leading them to a showdown where Vaidehi and Vaishnavi were killed and Abhimanyu turned them all into the vampires. "but what it has to do with Nandini?" Alya asked.

Nandini looked at Manik, she was scared he could tell. He walked to her and took her in a side hug as she snuggled close to him bracing herself for a nightmare. Neyonika sighed and said "well Abhimanyu is an original and he wants to remove the sun and the moon curse from vampires. We all know what is sun and the moon curse is; vampires are slaves of sun and can't go out in the day thus needing a daylight ring and werewolves are slaves of moon making them turn every full moon night." Manik continued "both vampires and werewolves have been fighting since the beginning of time to break the curse which needs a moonstone and the blood of the original vampire's human descendant." Manik further continued "the moonstone has been the bone of contention for both vampires and werewolves. The last time anyone saw the moonstone was 500 years ago when we turned; we were attacked by a pack of wolves then Abhimanyu came to our rescue he killed the alpha of the pack and took the moonstone from him before disappearing. No one has since it ever since but rumor has it that for generations his human ancestors are protecting the moonstone. but no one knows their identity it's a secret. But mom what has Nandini to do with that?"

"Nandini is the solution for every question Manik." Neyonika said "Nandini was born exactly 487 years after Vaidehi's death when the stars and moon were lined up the same way the night she died. Therefore Nandini possesses the spirit of Vaidehi." This piece of information was enough for everyone to lose their sleep over especially Manik and Nandini. Nandini clutched his jacket more tightly and snuggled more into him as Manik's grip on her waist tightened more. Neyonika further continued "Nandini I believe your mother's name is Anusha?" Nandini nodded in a yes. Neyonika smiled and continued "well here comes the shocker Anusha was Abhimanyu's direct human desecndent and after her it's Nandini."

"what?" Manik screamed "that means.. that means.." he could not complete the sentence; he was shocked and scared for Nandini beyond words. "that means Nandini must have the moonstone. Nandini do you have anything from your mother?" Nandini was too baffled to think but still she tried thinking and said "no". but then Alya suddenly said "no wait Nandu I remember just a few days before mom and dad died mom transferred few of her jewels to our Dehradoon locker and there I saw a beautiful bluish white huge pendant encrusted in a chain. I asked mom for it but she said that it was your mom's last jewel and it belonged to you. Your mother had written a letter where she mentioned that that should be given to you on your 18^th birthday."

Alya's information startled and shook everyone especially Manik and Nandini. "Nandini how many days for your 18^th birthday?" Neyonika asked. "2 months." A visibly broken Nandini replied. "then we have two months to think about how to save Nandini cause you killing a wolf pack elder has spread like a news along with the news of you falling in love with a human. I am sure even Abhimanyu would have heard it and the moment he knows about Nandini he will come. We have to find out what the spell is to break the curse and also how to reverse it." Neyonika said. "this time he will not win mom" Manik said with his eyes spitting fire and blood rushing through them. "he will not harm Nandini. No I will not let him win this time." "I think Nandini should stay with us only until this thing sorts out cause if werewolves get to know about her roots even they will be after her for a bargain with Abhimanyu." Dhruv said.

Nandini was sitting on the edge of the huge king sized bed in Manik's room and he was standing at the window trying to look in the dark and find the answers. There was a strange silence engulfing them, the winds made a strange sound as if even the nature felt scary with the way things were turning out. Manik was lost in thought when he saw two tiny hands clutching his coat from behind and he could feel her crying. He slowly held her hands and turned towards her. "Manik woh. I am scared, kya hoga ab?" manik cupped her cheek and wiped her tears with his thumb. He kissed her forehead "Nandini do you trust me?" she bobbed head. "then just keep this trust alive please I promise I will not let anything happen to you, we will sail through this; it's tough but we will sail through this Nandini. Abhimanyu cannot harm you and history won't repeat this time Nandini." Nandini looked into his eyes and said "I love you. There is no Nandini without Manik." Manik pulling her closer said "and there is no Manik without Nandini."

He fused his lips with hers with for a passionate kiss. A kiss to soothe both of them, a kiss to assure that their love is stronger than the coming storm. He tightened his grip around her waist and pulled her to stand on his feet. She dug her hands on his nape and bent a little pulling himself more into. Manik kissed, licked and chewed her lips making her moan. He kissed her lower lip and she kissed his upper lip. He bit her lip and entered her mouth devouring every corner of her mouth with his tongue. Finally after finding her breathless he pulled out of her mouth and rested his forehead on hers with their eyes closed.

Manik opened his eyes and said "let's go." Nandini "but where Manik?" Manik turned and said "to the witches." He called everyone and soon set out to the Singhania house. The Singhania's were all settled in the hall of their mansion still trying to come to terms with the new found revelations in their lives. "we need your services." Manik said as he walked in. Mukti looked at Manik and said "and exactly why would we help you?" Manik gritted his teeth and said "trust me witchy when I say this I am the wrong person to mess with right now and yes you will help me cause you are bound to." "what is it Manik?" dadi asked. "The sun and the moon curse." Manik said raising his eyebrow.

They soon explained everything sending another shocker to the family. "I know Nandini was the change catalyst." Dadi said "according to the legend for the sun and the moon curse to break we need the moonstone, the human descendant and the original witch to carry out the spell. On the auspicious 11^th full moon night also known as ekadashi Abhimanyu will have to cast a spell on himself with the moonstone and blood and then once the spell is cast he will have to drink the blood of the descendant till there is no more blood left in her body killing her. Once he does this he will transform into a hybrid that is a vampire and a werewolf; one of a kind never seen before beast." "I am going to die." Nandini whispered all shaken. Manik looked at her "Nandini!" he called her but Nandini was too shaken and tears constantly flowing "Nandini!" he shook her, she looked at him and crashed into him crying "Manik!" even though Manik was also shaken and scared he knew he needed to be strong for Nandini to make sure they sail through this storm.

He broke the hug wiped her tears and cupped her face and said "nothing will happen to you Nandini! I promise nothing will happen to us. Just remember one thing there is no Manik beyond Nandini and there is no Nandini beyond Manik." Dadi came and said "Nandini all hope is not lost beta. This was just the legend there is the original witch's spell book in the castle in the woods so tomorrow I and Vandana will be going there to fetch that book meanwhile you guys go and secure the moonstone from Dehradoon."

Manik nodded in agreement and looked at Mukti "this information has to be here only. If I see one sly wolf around her first to go to grave will be your boyfriend." He walked out with Nandini and rest of the gang leaving the Singhania's to ponder their next move. "we will not let anything happen to Nandini. Mukti Manik is right i." dadi was about to say something more when Mukti said "Don't worry if Harshad can put Nandini in danger for loyalty of his pack then even I am loyal to my commitments."

The drive back to mansion was uneventful. Nandini and Alya were shaken and scared even Manik was scared for her but he kept his calm because he was the only person who can think and find a way out. He knew Abhimanyu way too well, how he thinks and what he does. When they stopped at the mansion he found Nandini sleeping in Alya's lap in the backseat. He took Nandini in his arms and walked in the mansion; Manik placed Nandini on bed and kissed her forehead lying next to her in way that was hidden in him completely, as if he was trying to hide her from the impending danger.
