Sud women keep her entire maiden name after marriage? Many women do dat wid or against her husband n in-laws wishes. Some r forced to change their names. Many women had to change her name to 'Her Name+Husband's Name+Husband's Surname'. But some women even have to change her 1st name. D 1st name of women is changed in some Maharashtrian n Sindhi culture. Dat name consists of 'Her New Name+Husband's Name+Husband's Surname'. So, here women not only lost d identity of being 4m whose family she is but also her own name. So, there sud be a legal law announcement dat women did not need to change any of her maiden names at all. Will any men do d same as women r supposed to do? No. Then why dis patriarchy n gender inequality?

@angel_juhi04 I can say this is true in my own friend circle i have all these instances. I have men changing their last names (surprised?) women adding husbands last name to their own (i think it is called Double-barrelled last name, not sure if that is the right term), women taking on her husbands last name and feeling extremely happy (in this case flaunting the last name as high class to annoyance of rest of the group).

What i mean to say is there are mix of all scenarios. However when it is forced on to a women to change her name, it is harassment. I don't know if our judicial system is equipped with dealing with this sort of impasse. It should be woman's choice on what she would like to identify herself as. This culture is not limited to India. I have friends overseas who changed names, who added, replaced names and all sort.

But one thing i can guarantee you, it is absolutely a pain at the wrong end to update all documents to reflect your new name 🤢

There is a law in Greece 4m 1983 where women has to compulsorily not change her name after marriage. It is done to promote gender equality. So, dis move was taken in Greece over 30 years ago. In India, 4m 2012 women cannot change her name if she wants n its not compulsory for to do so n she has her choice. So, in India its a choice not compulsory like Greece.

What if the last name of husband is really funny or embarrassing, believe me there are few last names like that. Exhibit A http://www.dailymoss.com/10-indians-with-the-most-unfortunate-names/

I like the last one 😈
