DARK KNIGHT
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
My dearest DK Family 🤗
It has been a while and this post may shock some, but hope it won't be all unpleasant. Much to my delighted surprise there has been some interest in publishing this little tale of mine and therefore it needs to be taken down to facilitate that process.
I know some of you will be disappointed but I also hope that you will support me with my venture just as you so wholeheartedly did with your readership here. I would hope many of you will share my happiness and pray that this does get published as it would be a dream come true for me 😳.
If you would like to follow the progress of DK please do visit and like the page I have just created for it, where I will be keeping things regularly updated and hopefully sharing more concrete news when able.

I will eagerly look for as many of you as possible there! Removing the story from here is a very difficult task for me and I have prevaricated over it for very long but I now no longer have a choice. I hope you will understand and support me.
Love always,
Shru
PS: I am travelling tomorrow for a few weeks so if I delay replying to anyone, that is why.
AUTHOR'S NOTE AND INTRODUCTION:
Dearest Friends
First of all, a very big thank you for having borne with all the various fictions I have penned on this beloved Forum since my obsession with SwaSan started. I have discovered a real family here and you have all been way too kind and generous, and I am equally grateful. Those who read regularly are used to my style of writing. Save a few deviations from time to time, I usually write rather long detailed pieces, and mostly a re-telling of the current track in the way I either would like to see it play out, or how I think it logically should.
I now want to diversify totally and delve into a hitherto unknown world for me, and if you do decide to stick by me through this experiment, for you too, as far as my writing goes. For this is intended not only to be a full fledged SS in a series of Chapters, but also an entirely alternative script to that in the show. As many of you know, I don't like half measures! So in choosing an alternate storyline, I have decided to set this in an entirely different time period too. Plus, whilst you will find familiar names and characters, they will behave rather differently from time to time to those in the show. Effectively, I want to try something I have never attempted before, and do so with much trepidation.
In terms of my setting, a glaring warning needs to be given. Most of you know that I like to research all the nuances I want to describe. Here, I am forced to claim artistic license on a few elements, for the sake of the story I see playing out in my head, and the one I want to convey. Writers far better than me have done this, so I hope I will be forgiven! My story depicts the Maheshwaris as (minor) royalty, it sketches a world where Rajasthani "Ranas/Rajahs" or rulers reigned over their principalities and historically, as I briefly covered in Restored from Grace, Maheshwaris are actually a caste rather than surname, and were traders as far as we know, not rulers (as is the case with the Agarwals, Oswals and Khandelwals). Here, I am making them what I want them to be, so I hope that this will be accepted as part of the tale. Plus, I want to set the timeline to the late 1700s/early 1800s but some of the background described will not be entirely accurate from a historic perspective. The Arab or foreign invaders that I will mention in passing within the story were fought by the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty (the latter apparently credited with setting up Marwar as we today know it), between the 7th - 11th centuries. I have set my story in the late 18th and early 19th century so there will often be references that may niggle those who want a historically accurate fiction, so I will explain here, that this is not that. I am not intended to delve over deep into the historical aspects except to create the wider background and to build up atmosphere, as the story itself has a lot to cover, and the focus is very much on the characters themselves and how their lives are played out. Therefore, please almost imagine a created world, which only borrows loosely from our recorded texts in a wider sense.
I find a certain deep romance and tragedy too associated with olden times, especially the turbulence of the 18th century. It is a setting in which I so visualise SwaSan, who define epic for me and for weeks I have been mulling over placing them there and telling their tale. Very clichd but nonetheless heartfelt, friends in need so prove to be friends indeed and as I struggled with sorting this in my head, Shruti (Lannister) had a detailed exchange with me that tremendously helped various pieces come together for me. Shruti- a very special thank you for your help and input, to keep some suspense for you too I will change certain aspects! Similarly, thank you Anna, Nityah and Yukhti for expressing such enthusiastic interest in wanting to read this- you should all take credit that I take this leap! Also dedicated to my wonderful SwaSanian friends - Shree, Viji, Saku, Purbi, both Sapnas, Vrinda, Kawal, Sakshi- all of you always ask me to keep going and support me so thank you! Also, all my lovely SwaSan family- you all know who you are! Love you lots!
In the post below is a Prologue which sets the scene and in the week, I will work on posting the next Chapters. I am incredibly busy with work in the coming week and will do my best to be regular but please be patient and kind like always! I am not sure how many parts this will be, I have reserved the first page and will play it by ear!
Please do read and leave me your very precious feedback, it means a lot!
SYNOPSIS:
Here is a tale of heroes and villains, of love and betrayal, of friendship and loyalty, but also heartbreak and political intrigue. It is the story of a man who rises to great heights and is also plunged to the depths of despair; he is abandoned and shunned by most of his own. He is driven by revenge but his quest leads him to a love so overpowering, it changes him, and his journey forever. However, he has demons to battle, both his own and those sent by others. Whether his love will be his greatest strength, or his overwhelming weakness, will remain to be seen. Most of all, this is a tale of passion and promise, of a love that spans centuries in its own lifetime with its passion, dedication and selflessness.
