||CHAPTER - 1||
||SHADOWS OF SORROW||
The nature wore a beautiful look with the heavy raining. The wind that flowed through the window bore the smell of wet soil and it spread throughout the room. The environment turned way too much mysterious because of the weather. A woman came near the window and looked outside with an unknown happiness visible on her face. Her long open hair was flowing along with the wind and the raindrops that fell on her face made her look like the most beautiful girl on earth. She closed her eyes and as if she imagined something very special, she blushed. In the very next moment, she opened her eyes with a jerk and then suddenly a shadow of sorrow covered her face. She closed the window glass and moved away.
The telephone of the living room was ringing and the woman picked it up
"Hello..."
"How are you beta?"
"I'm good. What about you?"
"Why are you always like this dear? What is our fault? Parents always want their children's happiness. Whatever we did was for your happiness."
"I'm fine Amma. I'm not annoyed with anyone. No one is wrong. I have no complaints."
"Ashok is a good person..."
"Yes! He is! An amazing person indeed! No matter how ridiculously he treats me; hits me countless times but still he is a good person. Wow! And why not? Your son-in-law is so damn rich right?"
"Ishita, beta I can understand your pain. Please forgive me beta. I was helpless. What could I do? No one listens to me. A girl needs to be..."
"Amma I'm not feeling well. I'll talk to you later. I'm having a bad headache."
Ishita straightaway cut the call while on the other side her mother cried her heart out. Ishita dashed on the sofa,
"I am sorry Amma. I know it wasn't your fault. I'm unfortunate that I'm born in a family where a girl's wishes are only neglected. And I..."
Ishita covered her face with her hands as she cried her heart out.

Late at night, Ishita heard the calling bell and heaved a sigh. Her face was totally pale; lifeless. She walked up to the door and opened it. Ashok came inside drunk; clearly showing his unstable state
"How are you sweetheart? Were you missing me?"
Ishita gave a disgusted look and was about to turn when Ashok forcefully pulled her towards himself and caged her within his arms. His eyes reflected lust as he spoke up in a nasty voice
"What is the hurry sweetheart? Give me a kiss. Come on!"
Ishita somehow freed herself from his grip and glared at him
"I have no interest in your rubbish!"
She started to take steps but again Ashok grabbed her arm and this time slapped her. Ishita glared at him with extreme hatred making Ashok yell
"Lower your eyes! Don't you dare to look at me like that you bi**h!"
Ishita didn't pay any heed to him and that made his anger raise even higher. He again slapped her; this time with all his might and Ishita couldn't take it as she fell down on the floor. Ashok held her chin tightly and raised her face up making Ishita cry out in pain
"I'm your husband. Don't you dare raise your voice with me further. Otherwise... well, act like a good wife! Ok darling?"
Ashok laughed in a sadistic way and left for his room stumbling on his way while Ishita sat still in a devastated state on the floor.
Minutes passed and she wiped away her tears with shaky hands. As her brain functioned what had happened, she walked to her room; her legs barely cooperating.
This was the usual day of her life; no actually she didn't call it a life. She didn't have anything called life. All the dreams she had cherished; all those dear dreams which were very near to become true; were shattered all on a sudden when she got married to Ashok. Not that she was shocked with his attitude after marriage. She had always seen the dark side of men and she was used to it. Even her own father didn't ever accept her only because she
was a female child. So Ashok's behaviour towards her never surprised her. But only for her family's sake, she had no choice but to bear all the tortures of Ashok. Ashok always treated her as a material and whenever they used to go to any of his business parties he always used to insult her in front of everyone. It had been nearly 6 months of their marriage and already Ishita had lost the hope of living. Ishita lied down on the bed and kept staring at the ceiling thinking about her so called life. Every moment she prayed for her death to come so that she could get free from this cage of unending torture.
Ishita continued staring with a blank expression and nearly half an hour later, slowly closed her eyes and drifted to sleep.

A man was working out in the gym of his apartment. He had a tough look on his face and it was clear that it wasn't due to the workout session but it was his usual expression. After almost an hour he stopped and picked his towel up and headed towards the bath. Finishing his bath, he came near the mirror in bare body. He had looks which would make any girl drool over him and had a muscular body that made him even more devilishly handsome. He walked to his bedroom drying his hair and suddenly his cellphone rang
"Hello?"
"Raman, how are you buddy?"
"Hey Neil. I am fine buddy. What's up?"
"I am fine yaar. Just checking on you. Sir said that you are on a leave. So got a shock. What's up boss? everything's fine? You aren't the usual 'come-on-I-need-a-break' guy. You hate holidays you workaholic!"
"No dude. It's nothing like that. Actually I just finished a mission; so sir himself ordered me to go undercover for some days. That's why."
"Oh! So this is the case! Hmmm... Huh! And here I was thinking that my pal has finally found a girl and he is busy with her!"
"Neil, you know what you are just impossible. Again the same rubbish?"
"Ok ok sorry! Hands up! I won't joke anymore! Alright, See you!"
"Bye."
Raman kept the phone on the bed side table and went near the window. He heaved a sigh in peace as the sweet breeze soothed him "Me in love! Huh!" He smiled sarcastically and then sat on the couch scooping his laptop on his lap and soon he was lost in his own world."
