I wanted to share some inside scoop from a VERY RELIABLE source on FF awards 2012. According to this source, Filmfare selection process is quite transparent when it comes to deciding the final winners (I don't buy this given their nomination choices and eventual winners in different categories over the years, but I will ignore that for now. I've been tracking this annual tamasha for decades đ).
For 2012, the selected jury's (CRITICS AWARD) top choice for the Best Film was Chittagong. The moderator of this selection process, a key insider personđ, was not in favor of giving the award to a film that normal cinegoers had never heard of (which I agree đ!), so it went to the second unanimous Jury choice GANGS of WASSEYPUR. BTW, CHITTAGONG later won the National Award for Best Debut Film that year.âď¸... so there is Almighty somewhere who makes sure things are set right. đ
For Best Actress Critics award, 3 names were initially shortlisted: Vidya, Sri and PC... with Sri being the leading choice of the Jury. However, as GoW was already loved by the jury, Richa Chaddha's performance was brought back into contention and contrasted against the 3 mentioned above. Although Sri's masterful portrayal was applauded, the jury decided to honor an upcoming talent with a very strong performance. Their rationale was that the other 3 ladies had high chance of being honored by other ceremonies but no one will crown Richa, so let Filmfare take the lead here and set an example. This moderatorđ had to then give in by saying begrudging "OooKKK" đ to honor jury's opinion.
So there you have it, why Richa won over Sri and PC.
Sorry to disappoint PC fans, but she wasn't in the top run when stacked against other performances. The Jury had a different opinion overall of her performance. Again, this is talking in COMPARATIVE degree and no way undermining her earnest work.đ
Irfan was the unanimous jury choice for Best Actor.
For popular awards, voting and other "popular" factors came in. After all the tabulations, Vidya and Ranbir were clear winners there.
But now here comes the sad part: Vidya swept Best Actress across the board, PC got her share of some popular awards for Barfi while Sridevi got left behind. Sri topped every movie critic's "Best Actress of 2012" list and by the end of the year, she clearly was the front runner for all the awards,,, but none of the ceremonies had the guts to crown her for frivolous reasons known to them. Clearly, MERIT was not the only barometer everywhere. đ
Had Sri won the FF (even Critics), she would have pulled off a Best Actress victory after 21 years and set new benchmark for actresses. ESPECIALLY for a comeback film after freaking15 years!! But nah... this is Bollywood, can;t expect it to do what Oscars did for Meryl Streep in 2011.đ¤˘
All said and done, 2012 was an unusually competitive year - so Vidya's victory for Kahaani was not as glaring as let's say a Kajol for K3G over Chandni Bar. đ
I'm no MEOW or great at writing blinds but all of you are smart enough to figure out who I'm censoring. âď¸
I just wanted to clear the mystery in this forum. I'm sure no one is surprised by the turn of events here. We all know what happens behind these ceremonies. BUT THIS IS ONE REAL EXAMPLE.
So let's take their results with a pinch of salt as always. The stars know these behind-the-scenes things very well and hence people like Aamir, Kangana, Ajay, Salman etc... don't give a damn to these ceremonies.
