Chapter 5.5 - Bestfriend

Jalal accompanied Tahni to the elevator.

"Jalal you go ahead, I can manage." She turned and said to Jalal.

"No Tahni, I'll see you to the elevator." Jalal replied.

"But I'm sure you are busy Jalal and I've already taken so much of your time."

"Don't say that Tahni, I will always be available for you whenever you need me. Don't ever doubt that . I just want to see you get in the elevator safely."

"Thank you Jalal." She smiled.

" Waise you have a date and I should make sure that I return you safely to him hain na?. Varna tumhari woh mujhe chodungi nahii aur mujhe dhoonde mein yahan tak aayengi." Jalal teased Tahni.

(Besides you have a date and I should make sure that I return you safely to him right? Or else your him' will not leave me alone and he will come find me here.)

"Tumhe kaisi bataa hain ki I have a date with him?" She looked at Jalal shocked that he knew something she had not told him about.

(How did you know that I have a date with him?)

"Simple, it's because I'm your best friend." Saying so Jalal winked at Tahni and bent down a little to whisper into her ears. "Plus you wouldn't dress up so beautifully for me now would you? Though I'm a bit disappointed but I'm sure woh tumhe dekthe hi flat ho jayenge. After all, uski Tahni hain hi itni pyaari." He chuckles while she blushed furiously.

(I'm sure he will go flat just by looking at you. Afterall, his Tahni is that pretty.)

"You never leave a chance to tease me don't you?" Just then the elevator opens after a ding.

"The elevator is here, go on in." Jalal said to Tahni.

"Goodbye Jalal, I pray that you will find your happiness soon." She hugged him.

"Thank you Tahni. Enjoy your date." He hugged her back and see her walk in the elevator.

Just as the elevator door was about to close Jalal called out to her and said "Tahni, say hi to him for me will you."

"I will Jalal. Goodbye." She promised.

"Bye Tahni."

Seeing Jalal again brought back memories from the past for Tahni. Memories that was although painful yet bittersweet. As the floors decreased from one to another she started walking down memory lane and went back to a few years ago before things changed. Before her best friend Jalal changed.

A few years ago

Tahni and Jalal were best buddies, the two of them spends most of their time together. Tahni went out with some guys for some time and she seemed to compare all of those guys with her best friend Jalal. That's when Tahni realised that she had unknowingly fallen head over heels for her best friend, Jalal but she never said anything to him as she knew that he always thought of her as only a friend and nothing more but who could blame her for falling for him? I mean he was handsome and above all he was such a gentleman. Everyone looked up at Jalal as a role model of a sort. He treated everyone equally and never looked down at people.

The thought of this is killing me, it's been on my mind
Can't believe it's been right here after all this time
And even though I love you I can't seem to find someone who cares the way you do
You know, I love the way we've always been nothing more than friends
So why do I give every man the stand up
Thought I was over this but once again I'm comparing you to him
And I find that there's no you in him that matters

She tried, oh she tried hard alright to push the feelings she had for Jalal away, bury it somewhere far, a place where no one else or even she can dig out her darkest secrets. But whenever she buries her dark secrets deep inside her, somehow it always resurfaces when he was around her.

Boy even though you're my best friend
I can't help it whenever I compare you to him
It's like I always do this

And I hate that I can't find someone who's worth my time
Just like my best friend

It was hard for her to stay by his side knowing that the two of them can never be more than best friends but it was better than not being friends at all for her. She was willing to sacrifice her feelings for Jalal however she was not willing to sacrifice their friendship. So she acted as though she doesn't have any feelings for Jalal.

And I know you hear me say this all the time
I don't do relationships cause I'm on my grind
But see you're part of this
Because I just can't find someone who knows me like you do
Always brought out the good in me
Don't know just what you see
Whatever it is, no other guy has even tried
Remember when you left one day and turned around and say

"You're my best friend"
And right there you made me cry

Ooh yeah ~

Everything went well until Jalal found out about her feelings for him one fateful day. He felt guilty for not realizing how Tahni felt for him earlier and that he had unintentionally broke her heart. He wanted to make amends to her for being so oblivious about her feelings but the only thing he could do was apologize to her.

She had cried when he apologized and said that it was not his fault as she was the one who fell in love with him and that their friendship was more important to her than those one-sided feelings. However Jalal was unable to forgive himself for causing her so much pain and tried to distant himself from her.

But she had told him that it was all in the past and they should forget about it as now she had finally found someone who healed her broken heart and she doesn't want to lose their friendship ever. "Yes I was hurt unintentionally but don't intentionally hurt me by breaking our friendship Jalal" was what she told him and he finally agreed saying that he was happy for her for finding a guy that loves her.

I'm trying to let you know
A part of me just can't let this go
Never had a friend one who might have been
With you it so different yeah
I don't know what you did
But I know that whatever it is
I'm so grateful for you
I'm so grateful for you

Even though the things I told you

Ding... The sound of the elevator brought Tahni out of her thoughts. She walked out of the building and walked towards a man standing by a silver car at the junction smiling at her

"So, how did it go " He asked.

"Well." She answered.

"Just well?!" He asked.

"He said hi."

"What?" He asked a little confused.

"Jalal asked me to say hi to you for him."

"Oh, I guess I can't say the same for him now can I? So what took you so long?"

"I will tell you when we get home later. Now are you planning to take me out for lunch or are you planning on making me starve?"

"Sorry, let's go." He opened the passenger's seat door for Tahni to get in. Before getting in the car Tahni looked up towards Jalal's office and waved goodbye to her friend knowing that he was probably looking down on the two of them.
