Chapter 6 - The Sudden Confession

Recap - Jalal's best friend Tahni drops by his office to meet him after a year. Tahni notices that Jalal is interested of Jodha and is really happy for him after seeing some changes in Jalal and advices him before leaving his office. On the other hand Jalal is having a tough time figuring out his feelings towards Jodha.

Sukanya's place

Mainawati was busy running around checking whether everything was in place for the engagement that is going to take place the next day. Her niece Sukanya was no less than a daughter to her and she was determine to make sure everything would be flawless for her niece. As Mainawati was reprimanding a worker for a mistake he made her friend Leela came to her saying.

"Maina, I've talked to the ladka's mother and she said that they are interested to talk further about this proposal."

"Really Leela?! That's good news. So when do we meet them?"

"She said after the engagement party. Did you talk it over with Bharmal? What did he say?"

"I did, he was a little skeptical about not discussing this with Jodha first."

"You can tell her after you meet the ladke waala and after everything ispaaka."

"Yes I was planning to do that."

"Oh yeah Maina, do you have a picture of Jodha that I can give the ladke waala? They gave the ladka's picture and they want one of Jodha's. This is the ladka I told you about the other day. His name is Suryabhan Singh, his parents calls him Surya for short. He works as a manager in a company called Ace Corp. He's 28 years old and he's an only child. So, what do you think?"

"I think he's perfect for my Jodha. They'll make a good pair. Don't you think?"

"I think so too."

That night at Jodha's place

Jodha was a little apprehensive about Jalal and Tahni's relationship after her conversation with Moti.

Arrgh this is all because of Moti!!! Tahniat did say that she was Jalal's best friend. It doesn't seem that way though. What? But why would she lie to me? Why would she not lie to you? No, she doesn't look like someone who would lie about just being friends. Best friends you mean. Yes, best friends. I mean if they were more than just best friends then she would have mentioned it to me right?

And why would she? Who are you that she should explain herself to you? Besides why are you bothered Jodha? He's just your boss right, why would it matter if they're just best friends or more than that? I...I... It's Moti ! Yeah it's Moti, she'll torture me with all her questions and complains like earlier today when she dropped me home!

Earlier in Moti's car

"Damn it, just thinking about it pisses me off!!!"

"Just thinking of what pisses you off Moti?"

"What else?! The lady who came by the office earlier today to visit' Mr. Muhammad."

"Why? What did she do?"

"What did she do?! Are you seriously asking me that?! Can't you see the way she was dressed?!"

"She looked very beautiful."

"Of course she did. Even a blind man can see that!"

"Uhm Moti, you do know that a blind man is called blind for a reason right?"

"Haha very funny Jodha!!! I'm being serious here and you're trying to be funny!"

"Oh come on Moti they're just friends."

"Really now Jodha, you expect me to believe that? I tell you Jodha there's something more between the two of them. I just know it and I'm going to find out what it is."

"What do you mean there's something more between them?"

"I'm saying that they may not be just friends, I mean come on given his reputation she should be more like his friend with benefits than just best friends if you know what I mean."

"I had a little chat with her and she said that they were best friends. Besides she doesn't look like someone who would you know uhm.. be friends with benefits."

"Oh please Jodha they always look like that and say that they are just friends but then you never know what they're hiding behind those mask they wear."

"Moti I really think you're thinking too much about this. It could be that you're wrong."

"Jodha I'm never wrong in this and trust me I'll prove to you that they're more than just best friends."

"What if they're really only best friends?"

"And what if they are friends with benefits?"

"..."

"You don't worry I'll find out about it Jodha, okay?"

"Okay."

Back to present at Jodha's place

Are they really friends with benefits? No, it can't be, but it is true that she was dressed beautifully. Was it really for him?! Oh come on Jodha it could be for someone else too you know. Yeah, but then why would she dress up if she was going to just meet a friend? Who says that you can't dress up when you are to meet a friend of yours? Is there a rule book saying that one can not dress up when meeting a friend? It could also be that she was on her way out for I don't know shopping or something and she decided to drop by to meet him.

Mr. Muhammad was pretty surprised to see her there. Yes and what does that say? What? It says that she was there to surprise him no? Yeah... But that doesn't rule out that they're friends with benefits. Okay how about this, if they are really as you think they are then they would have probably kissed instead hug each other when they met.

Arrgh!!! Damn it why am I thinking about this?! It shouldn't matter to me what he does and doesn't do. Woh jo bhi kare mujhe koi lena dena nahii honii chahiye. Toh main iss baat se itna pareshaan kyu hoon? Kya main unse ... Nahii nahii nahii hey bhagwan, I must have lost it! How can I and that too with my boss whom I barely know of? Snap out of it Jodha, this isn't real. The thing you hope to happen exists only in dreams not in reality. Don't get your hopes high Jodha!

(Whatever he does has nothing to do with me. Then why am I being restless about this? Am I ... No no no oh God,)

Jalal's place

Jalal was still pondering on the fact of what was it about Jodha that intrigued him. Yes, she was different from all the girls he knew. As a matter of fact she was the first woman to ever make him feel awkward. He remembered the day at the bus stop, the day he first met her. He let out a chuckle thinking back on how she checked him out' that day, he could still remember the feel of her dupatta covering his face after a sudden gust of wind blew it away from her shoulders.

The way those eyes met with his for the first time after he removed thedupatta that obscured his vision. She wore his favourite coloured anarkalisuit that day with matching rhinestone bindi. There's just something about her that pulls him towards her. Some sort invisible force or something. What is it? Could it be love? Infatuation? Or is it lust? He asked himself over and over again.

But he knew it wasn't lust. You may ask how is he so sure that it wasn't lust? Well let's just say that he knows lust' very well and the way he looks at Jodha, or rather the way he thinks of Jodha is different. With his past girlfriends, Jalal kept one motto in mind and that was Bed them until you're satisfied and once done get another one.'

But with Jodha the only thing that comes to mind is what makes her happy? What upsets her? What makes her smile? What should I do to make sure she feel good? What should I do to ensure she's always smiling? Funny that he was thinking this way for a girl he barely knew but then as they say it only takes a second or a moment to know that they're the one.

Was she the one? She could be the one. But is he ready to risk it all. One wrong move and he would lose her to someone else. But one right move and it could be heaven to him. What is a man to do? He knows he had a pretty colourful past but then again if he could change his past he would gladly change it for her however it was not possible as there is no undo button in life all he can do is leave his past behind and move forward with her if she was willing to give him a chance of course.

He decided to risk it all, to put everything in the line. Worst to worst he would lose her to someone else but thinking that there's also a chance for him to have her kept him going because his gut told him that everything will work out well. You may say that his gut may fail him but so far his gut never failed him once so he was confident that he would win her over.

But now he has to decide carefully on how he is to win her heart. He decided that he will be clear of everything about him to her so that she may decide on whether she is willing to give him a chance or is she not willing to accept him. He will not pressure her and he will wait patiently for her to come to her decision.

Next day, JM Corp.

Jalal's office

Jalal was on the phone with Tahni when there was a knock on his door.

"Come in." he said and continued talking with Tahni telling her of his decision to give him and Jodha a chance.

Jodha opened the door and walked in with a file in her hands to find that Jalal was on the phone with someone.

"Yes Tahni, I've decided to give it a try." He said before turning to find Jodha standing by his office door with a file in her hand. He raised his brows asking what she needs him for.

She answered by speaking in a soft whisper "I need your signature for this document."

He nodded asking her to pass the file to him. As he was reading the content of the document he asked Tahni "So how was your date with your husband yesterday?" to which Jodha looked up at him in surprised thinking Tahni is married?! She had a date with her husband yesterday?! So that means the two of them are really only best friends. A smile unknowingly crept on her lips for the first time since yesterday.

Jalal was done with the file and pass it back to Jodha, she excused herself and he ended his call with Tahni. Just as Jodha was about to exit his office, he called out to her. She turned around to face him and he said

"Miss Sharma, I think I'm in love with you." Followed by a gasp from Jodha and a thud from the file that she dropped.
