Do you like or dislike certain artistes only due to their religion or region?

Say, liking the Khans mainly because they are Muslims or liking Akshay and Hrithik mainly because they are Hindu?

Or liking Madhuri because she's Marathi? Or Deols because they're Punjabi?

Or disliking Atif and Fawad because they are Pakistanis?

Just quoted for examples.

Does religion or regional background of an artiste influence your liking?

Does background matter? Consciously or subconsciously?

No. Only their onscreen performance and off-screen behaviour.

Nah religion is no biggie

Only thing that matters is If they can bring it when the cameras on

Ps : sometimes if they say/do stupid things that could matter 😳

Never...I am a Hindu and the Khans are my favorite including the new Pakistani Khan. Religion or region are never a factor when the magic of cinema starts working. Thats why they say art is without boundaries.
Its only an artist's competency which is the deciding factor. Like I dont like Atif but not because he is a Pakistani but because I find him besura.
But having said this I do find lot of people a biased...forget Pakistanis but many people dislike the three Khans due to their religion...including certain members of this forum.
I feel to be fair religious/regional affinity does influence liking to some extent. Maybe because if an actor is strongly identified with a region then people of that region obviously know a lot about that celebrity as general awareness is more among the local population as they are a subject of conversations. Giving an example someone like Amitabh Bachchan is liked a lot by Bengalis because he is seen as Bengal's son-in-law as well because he spent some of his struggle days in Calcutta. But this doesnt extend to everyone...for instance Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who was also Bengal's son in law but was never as popular as Amitabh Bachchan.

Not for me. I share no similarities with the celebs/artists I like. All good as long as I like them and enjoy their performances, movies, music etc

I might develop a soft corner for a celeb if he/she is from my place or city. I might even root for them if we are the alumni of the same college/school. However it happens when they are on the cusp of stardom. If they are already superstars...the region and all do not matter at all. 😆

Having said that, I don't think I would dislike a certain celeb just because they are from a certain region or something. That never happened till now. Coming to religion, it never mattered and it never will.

I see many comments on FB and certain blogs which have clear communal tinge.

Many praise Dilip Kumar and start dissing AB - and user names are Muslim. Some are too direct and say Khans should be kicked out and Akki is the biggest star - and such comments come from Hindu names.

Personally I don't even know about background of artistes. And don't bother even if I know. My opinion is based on their work and also differs from film to film.

But I was really curious after seeing obvious communal slant in preferences, online.

I think maybe this does matter in real life which is why the stars try to release films on certain festivals. Like Deols chose date around Lohri for YPD if I am not mistaken.

I know what you mean Atominis. I'm a Buddhist by birth and more of an atheist by choice and I feel it's wrong to measure an individual by parameters like religion, race, sexuality, gender etc. And this is not only for celebrities or artists but for people in general
