Amma insisting she would not eat in a place where they cook non veg in the same utensils is reasonable.
So they tell her the food was made at a neighbors place. so fine.

Then they show that they bring fish because it is auspicious to them.

Now isn't amma justified in refusing to come to such a place for food?

is there really a custom like that? or are they making it up? even if there is a custom they could have not shown it in tv like the way they did.

it hurts the sentiments of people who for whatever reason are vegetarian.

This episode is hurting both the parties equally ,in the same manner !
Giving an agreeable solution to this topic is not so easy ! Psychological ,and socialogical factors play an important role in this matter !

@TM

I understand that you are upset, I am a vegetarian too and I don't like seeing the shape of any live thing cooked, it makes me upset.

But non-vegetarian do not understand this sentiment as for them it's natural. It is not possible to explain why it hurts veg.

So like Seetha said this episode is hurting both veg and non-veg.

Agree with Seetha, in cross-cultural marriages, you need to to be extra careful about offending sensibilities of any side, so while Ammaji came across as rude and brazen in making a fuss in eating at their place, Pintoo came across as foolish and inadvertently inconsiderate, guess this is the CVs plan to hype the drama quotient, so just be patient and hope this irritating track passes off!

Finally the track is picking.
Hi All,

This is my first post in HNN forum. I joined this show pre-dominantly for Pratyusha. Have been watching it from day one.

I find Ammaji too insensitive and fussy, but today I couldn't sympathise with Pinto either. When they were so careful about every aspect of cooking vegetarian food what was the need of bringing a fully-cooked fish.

In cross-culture marriage, one needs to be extra careful and sensitive towards other person's mind-set, as the cultural up-bringing and behaviours of two-parties are not the same.

Ammaji is giving no time to Saagarika to adjust, clearly knowing that the girl has no exposure to Benarasi culture, rituals and expectations, and this is becoming increasingly tough on Sags.

On the contrary, Pinto and Saagarika also never took a step back to think, how this marriage will unfold, and if there were some points they need to clear before-hand.

Today, what Sag's questioned Bunty was something, she should have thought through before. She was quite cautious about Arindham, but went with a flow on Bunty.

Let's see how the show unfolds.

Well-said👏

But I guess that is the basis of drama in this serial, how SagUn adjust amidst the pulls and pushes of varying characters. I also feel Sagz did not think of all the problems before marriage because she was in love and when love overpowers your senses, everything else, all reasoning goes for a toss, so marriage will reawaken her lost powers now😛. also, in an early episode, when Pubali teased her about Bunty, she was very rational and said, are you crazy, have you seen his family, so now is the time for introspection for Sagz and Bunty and how they manage will be the crux of the plot!

I am a vegetarian myself and come from Orthodox Brahmin Family. Had seen these kind of situation. But with time my people got adjusted. But not everybody, these kind of issues are very sensitive. Off course while deciding life partner Bunty have not thought of the consequences but Saagarika was clear what she want from her partner, as in the case of Arindom. She also knows there will be lots of adjustments to be made accordingly she is trying on her part but Amma is not giving her time, that is the sad part, but then in this materialistic world who thinks about other's. Even Bunty never had a clue neither he gave Sag's a chance to think about it. He was all over her. Let's hows CV's will handle this situation.

@ Vibraj,
Yes, I agree... Sags was so rational in the way she said, that she wouldn't dare to fall for Bunty due to his crazy family... but as you said love overpowered her rational mind and it is only now that her rationality is back. So let's see how she tackles.

But often in reality, lot of couples burn out due to cross-cultural differences, particularly when the MIL (or one family) is non-co-operative and does not want to show any signs of acceptance or adjustments.

I am not sure of Bunty. I like him, because he is sweet and makes efforts in keeping harmony, but he is not stern and will never be able to put his foot down on any matter. Will this burn him down at some point?

Your analysis of Bunty is very spot on, sweet, caring but cannot be stern and put his foot down! Hopefully, in the course of the serial, our character will evolve!

Amma is stubborn and medieval; Saagaika has self-pride; Bunty is a sweet fellow, with a tendency to fib under the pretext of good for all; Pintu was insensitive in this instance; the families are well set in their ways etc. etc. etc.

In a love marriage, its often very easy to overlook the details; and especially when the marriage takes place in a hurry - chat mangni, pat byaah.

The couple is so keen to unite that they do not think of the fine print - rituals, cultures, eating habits, and so on; these differ even in same-culture marriages and from house to house.

To overcome these barriers, both parties have to be sensitive to the feelings of each other and their extended families and try to work through their differences with an open mind.

When even one of the two parties are stubborn, things get difficult, with the other party being pushed up against a wall, until explosion point is reached.

I think the CVs will make us see the extreme issues that arise is such marriages, before we finally get to see a happy end.

Like I said in another thread, we might see a temporary separation before Bunty pulls up his socks and takes a stand - either for his wife or for his mother 😉
