Part 4
Their eyes meet in the most passionate eye locking session. His eyes are tearing her apart. The look in his eyes is soo intense that Kaajjal could feel herself melting at his gaze. She can't understand why his eyes look soo familiar. It is as if she has known these eyes forever. As if, she knows this gaze and the intensity in it. She feels her whole being pulled to him, as if he was a magnet. Her breathing gets heavy and she is unable to control herself. She wants to run to him. She wants to touch him, hold him, and ask him who is he and why is she soo helpless in front of him. But she holds her feet.
Dev is still looking at her, almost begging her with his eyes to come down to him. He is hoping that tonight, he will see the same love in her eyes, he has been dying to see. Hoping that tonight, she will take his name and make him alive again. However, his hopes die in an instant when he sees her stepping back and closing the window with a jerk. As if telling him with this gesture to 'get lost'. And there, Dev's heart stops beating. She has rejected him completely, and he cannot bear the thought of it. Suddenly, tears of pain and agony starts rolling down his eyes. He closes his fingers to make a fist and bangs it on the car, only to leave a dent. His whole being cries with the pain of rejection. He tries to take a step, but he is soo heavily drunk that he cannot even move and falls down on the ground - almost unconscious.
Kaajjal is pacing here and there in her room, restless and fidgety, 'who is this man, why do I feel soo strongly for him. Why? And why is he here. What does he want? Why is he doing this to me?' she is almost in tears herself, and once again, she peeps out of the window to see if he is gone or not. And there, she finds him on the ground, unconscious. That was it for her, she cannot bear this sight, her heart goes out to him, and she starts running downstairs.
She comes running to him and sees him unconscious. She sits down on the ground, holds his head, and keeps it in her laps.
"suniyay …." she pats his face to bring him to senses. She can smell the strong odor of liquor and realizes he is heavily drunk.
'ab main kya karoon. I can't leave him like this. And I don't know who is he, so I can inform someone?' she is nervously thinking when Dev's cell starts ringing. She jumps at this sudden noise and then searches for his cell in his pocket. She presses the receive button, but before she could say something, Anupam starts speaking,
"Dev, where are you? At least you should have informed me that you were going somewhere. This is height of irresponsibility?" Anupam is shouting and Kaajjal is lost in the name 'Dev'.
'So his name is Dev ….. Dev, Dev …' she repeats the name in her mind many times, but can't think why this name seems so familiar, soo important.
"main nay kaha, kahan ho tum?" Anupam is irritated at Dev's reckless behavior, and this brings Kaajjal back,
"h … hello .." Kaajjal stammers with words,
"hello, who is this?" Anupam is surprised to hear a girl,
"ji main … actually, wo, wo, D … De … Dev is here," her tongue is stopping while taking Dev's name. Her heart is skipping trillion beats while she is saying Dev. She can't make out why this name is having such an effect her. Why?
'I think he is too drunk and is unconscious. Can you please come and get him." Kaajjal does not tell her name.
"Unconscious? Why? How? Where are you, please tell me so I can come." And Kaajjal gives him her address.
"By the way, can I ask who are you?" Anupam asks, before hanging up,
"It doesn't matter. Aap please aa kay inhain lay jaain." Kaajjal says and disconnects.
She is still sitting on the floor with his head in her lap for she doesn't want to leave him on the ground like this. She looks back towards her house to see if alls well inside. It was late and Satya and bua had already retired.
She shifts her gaze back to him, and her eyes rests on his face.
'How familiar does this face look. It is as if I know every feature so vividly.' She finds herself staring at Dev, not wanting this moment to end. He was looking like an angel in her laps.
'But these lines of stress and pain. Why is he sooo sad? Where does this pain come from? Why was he looking at me, as if he knew me, and wanted something from me? What does he want from me?' Kaajjal is thinking about all these things when she feels a movement in him. She looks down and finds him opening his eyes. She hesitates and their eyes meet. The gaze sooo intense, soo powerful that none spoke for what seemed like an eternity.
"Tum aa gaee Kaajjal," Dev's finally speaks, and his words bring her back. She tries to stand up.
"main is liyay aayee kuin kay mujhay laga aap ko kisi ki zaroorat thi." Kaajjal says while standing up. Dev is struggling to stand up and Kaajjal supports him. Their hands touch, and their eyes meet at this touch. Kaajjal feels electricity running down her spine at this slight touch. She can feel that strange pull. Every time she touches this man, her heart starts beating fast.
'uff, what is wrong with me. I have to go from here, before I end up in his arms.' She can't believe she just thought about his arms. 'o God I am going crazy. I have to go..'
"ab aap theek hain tu I better go." she starts moving towards her house, when Dev holds her hand.
"abhi na jao Kaajjal, please" Dev says in the most intense voice, and Kaajjal's heart stops beating at his tone. She turns around to look at him. She keeps looking at him for some time and then speaks.
"haath choriyay mera." She glares at him, all of a sudden angry. His touch is melting her like a jelly, and she is actually angry on her own weakness, which she takes out on Dev,
"aakhir aap mujh say kya chahtay hain, kuin paraisahn kar rahay hain mujhay?" she asks in a strange tone. She knew she was lying, he was not bothering her, instead, he was making her go weak in her knees; he was driving her crazy; he was making her want him,
"kya? Main tumhain paraishan…." Dev tries to repeat her words with pain. "haan Kaajjal, jo main nay kiya us kay baad tumhain aisa hi kehna chahiyay." Dev says in a broken voice,
"kya kiya aap nay? Mujhay kuch nahi pata!!!" she almost shouts, "You don't exist for me, you understand. So please, stop disturbing me again and again." She turns around at this to leave. And Dev starts burning again with this pain of rejection. He holds her hand tight and pulls her back towards him. He pushes her back, such that her back is rested on the car, and he hovers over her.
"I don't exist for you." He glares at her. His hands rested on her sides, pinning her between him and the car. He presses him to her intensely, and she almost faints with the intensity of his touch.
"I don't exist for you," he repeats again, this time with even more anger and jealousy, and punches the car with his fist. "How can you say that? How????"
"Let me go, you are hurting me!!" Kaajjal squirms between him and the car; she has no way to go. She is afraid of his anger.
"No!!! You are hurting me Kaajjal Behl." He moves even closes to her, almost crushing her to him. Their bodies are touching and they are breathing heavily. Kaajjal knows the power this man has on her. His close proximity is already weakening her,
"aakhir aap chahtay kya hain?" Kaajjal is afraid of her own weakness and this look in his eyes – almost hateful and heated.
"tum aisay kuin kar rahi ho jaisay you don't know me. Jaisay mera koee wajood nahi tumharay liyay?" he has questions in his eyes,
"Kaajjal, Kaajjal …. aik baar keh do kay tum mujh say aaj bhi pyar karti ho." His voice softens at this, almost begging her, "Main chala jaaon ga. Phir tumhain kabhi paraishan nahi karoon ga … aik baar Kaajjal, aik baar keh do .." He is just dying to hear her confess her love for him one more time.
"main aap say pyar nahi karti … choriyay mujhay" Kaajjal wiggles again,
"tum mujh say pyar karti ho God damn it. Tum mujh hi say pyar karti ho." He almost shouts, banging his both hands on the car again, from both sides of Kaajjal, and her heart stops beating to see his anger. His restlessness touches its heights. "Suna tum nai Kaajjal … tum mujh hi say pyar karti ho. Tumharay Na karnay say sach nahi badal jayay ga."
"nahin .." Kaajjal shouts back,
"haan," he shouts back, "dekho apnay aap ko, kaisay tadap rahi ho meri bahon main aanay kay liyay. Tumhara roam roam mujhay choonay kay liyay beqarar hai," his voice softens at this, "jaisay mera roam roam tumhain choonay kay liyay beqarar hai. aik baar keh do Kaajjal, aik baar … sari duniya say chupa loon ga tumhain, phir koee takleef tum tak nahi aanay doon ga … aik baar Kaajjal," Dev husky, low voice, almost begging her, turns her heart into jelly. She cannot believe the effect Dev is having on her. It was as if every word he is saying was true. And to her horror, she knew she was dying to be in his arms.
'I have to stop this before it's too late. For heaven's sake, I don't even know him' Kaajjal's mind is racing at a speed of light. Dev can see these colors crossing her face,
"Kaajjal, aik bar keh do tum mujh say aaj bhi pyar karti ho. Please Kaajjal," he loosens his arms around her and cups her face. "tumhari yeh berukhi mujh say bardasht nahi ho rahi. Main pagal ho jaoon ga Kaajjal, main pagal ho jaoon ga." he says in a broken tone, and Kaajjal's heart melts. Dev bends his head, almost tears in his eyes.
"Please say you love me."
'I have to stop this, I have to' Kaajjal's mind shouts.
"main aap say pyar nahi karti …. NO!!! " this time she jerks his hands, almost throwing them away.
'but what is wrong with my heart, it is saying … what is it saying? It is saying, YES .. chupke se.' a thought crosses her mind in a split second.
"Agar ab aap nay mujhay haath lagaya tu acha nahi ho ga." Kaajjal glares at him,
"tu kya karo gi tum haan…" once again Dev holds her shoulders, "tum meri ho, sirf meri …. Samjhi tum. Sirf mera haq hai tumhain haath laganay ka. Sirf Dev Pratap Singh ka." He shakes her and this time Kaajjal lifts her hand and gives him a hard slap.
They are both standing there, glaring at each other – Dev with disbelief, and Kaajjal with hatred and anger in her eyes. And Dev feels as if he has lost every battle today. He has truly lost his Kaajjal today.
