Comparisons are inevitable though I am gonna try and steer clear of them. While the basic premise of KY2 is a lot like Hana Yori Dango (me a biased HYD fan; BOF never did the justice to the original story for me), I am really liking this very Indian twist to it. Those who have seen the Asian version(s) know that Makino (JanDi) punching Doumyoji (JunPyo) is one BIG moment of the entire series and basically kick starts their story but that wasn't the case in KY2 and I really like that.
With one punch Nandini basically shut off the entire Fab5. I loved the execution of that scene, with Manik calling off the game and Nandini delivering the final blow. Her outburst was enacted wonderfully by the actress. It was raw, emotional and felt so real. Manik's sarcastic caring reaction when he got to know that it was her father's pen they were playing around with told so much about his character and it'd be so interesting to know how he's going to develop from this point to what he is going to inevitably become. And that broke the final bond of restrain that Nandini had.
The punch was well delivered and well deserving. But it was the reaction from the Fab5 which I loved more. While Manik was shocked that someone could actually dare do it, Mukti and Alya took the first steps in retaliation. Nandini taunting Cabir to take the video now had me laughing in sheer joy. Though Manik did stop Mukti from not doing anything, the way she stepped forward and grabbed Nandini's arm shaped her character. It's her who is the first wall of defense when it comes to Fab5. And she's probably the fiercest amongst all when it comes to defending their little world which consists only of them.
Now, my most favourite part.
"Mukti, let her go."
"CHODO MERA HAATH!"
That fire didn't fizzle out at all till Nandini clearly won the round. Manik was all calm and collected and telling Mukti to let go but Nandini was all burning and bursting and demanding that she be free. That demand, that fire; Fab5 hasn't seen that yet. And there is clearly more to come. I loved it how Nandini didn't shut up and looked at Manik when he told Mukti to let go; instead she was in control throughout and didn't even bother sparing one glance to Manik. He is nothing to her, not even worth her slightest of attentions. And she made sure he knew that.
God, I love this girl.
And the second best part of the episode;
Electric & Acoustic.
Manik & Dhruv.
I loved it how it's a two-way street with them. Pilot showed us Manik comforting Dhruv though one of his rage episodes and today showed Dhruv reaching out to Manik when no one could even come close to him. There's this genuine care they have for each other where respect is highlighted. Manik seems like the guy who puts on this show for the world that he is untouchable but with Dhruv, he lets all the walls down and says what he means. And he didn't say that he would wreck havoc in Nandini's life for daring to humiliate him, he just said in a light, friendly way that it hurts when someone hits you with the intention of delivering pain. The guy who was strumming the guitar strings with every intention of breaking them was joking around the next second with his best friend. He is no scheming, manipulating, leader of the gang with Dhruv - he's just Manik.
The characters are more or less revealed and the stage in S.P.A.C.E is set. It's all about going forward now and I am really looking forward to that. Let's see how the walls will be broken and what's hidden will be shown.
And the fireflies will glow and dance again.
