Anandi and Shiv were in sitting under the gazebo their favorite place in the Kesar Buag garden. They sat there in the afternoon sipping hot coffee. A smile came to Anandi's lips as she remembered herself as a child who used to pay hide and seek in the garden with Saachi and their friends. The gazebo was her favorite place to hide. If at all Shiv played with them he was the only one who could ever seek her out. Shiv looked at Anandi and was happy to see her smile.
Shiv: Kya soch rahi ho?
Anandi: Kuch nahi bachpan ke din kitne acche the na? Bachpan ke befikri ke din. Aapko yaad hai jab bhi Saachi aur mere doston ke sath hum luka chupi khelte main humesha yahin chupti thi...
Shiv: Hmm tumhaari favorite jagah thi koi dhoondh nahi pata tha tumhe...
Anandi: Sivay aapke... Aap o kaise pata hota tha ki main yahaan hoon?
Shiv: Ye meri bhi favorite place thi aur main tumhaara favorite tha I mean tumhaara idol tha main... So tumhaari favorite jagah yehi hogi... Simple logic you see...
Anandi: I see...
Anandi and Shiv laugh. To someone who would have heard their conversation would have been difficult to digest the fact that Anandi and Shiv could laugh after the revelations that had been. They sat there for some more time. There was no one other than them at home. They could have sat there and continued with their talk but Anandi wanted to share her pain only with Shiv and not only other living soul. They went back inside the room. They closed the door and sat on the couch.
Shiv: Anandi tum sure ho that you want to continue? Agar tumhe lage ki tumhe aaj ke liye bas itna hi kehna hai toh it is fine by me. Anandi main jaanta hoon ki ye sab tumhe emotionally bahut takleef de raha hoga...
Anandi: Aap hai na mere saath toh bas ab mujhe kuch bhi nahi rakhna apne andar. Haan iss waqt ye takleef ho rahi hai but ye toh hum iss liye baat kar rhea hain na ki umra bhar ke liye is takleef se hum chutkara pa le... Umra bhar ki khushi ke liye ye thoda sa dard main bardaasht kar loongi... Kya aapn nahi chahte ki main aage...
Shiv: Nahi... main chahta hoon ki aaj tum apna saara dard mere saath baant lo... Wo kehte hain na ki dard baantne se kam hota hai... hum iss dard ko kam nahi hone denge balki iska namonishan mita denge...
Anandi smiled at her supportive husband. He wanted her to tell him everything even the most gruesome incidents of her past so that he can take them away from her.
Anandi: Sagai ho gayi meri Jagdeesh ke saath... dekha jaaye toh koi khush nahi tha... Na main... na humaare parivaar mein se koi aur na papa... Ma ko bhi kahin na khin kuch toh kami lag rahi thi unki khushi mein... shayd main khush nahi thi iss liye... Jagdeesh ke chehre par ek ajeeb si khushi thi... na main tab samjhi aur na aaj samajh sakti hoon ki wo kya tha... Haan par uske gharwalon ke chehre par asli khushi thi... Sagai ke ek hafte mein shaadi this iss liye ghar par mehmanon ka tanta laga rehta tha... uss bheed mein bhi khud ko akeli mehsoos karti thi main... Koi nahi tha jiss se pane mann ki baat kar paati... Mehendi aur sangeet ka function ek hi shyaam ko rakha tha... Mujhe l;aga ki uss din wo nahi aayega par wo aaya aur maine kabhi socha nahi thi utni ochi baat ki usne...
Shiv: Kya kaha tha usne?
Flashback
Khajan Singh's haveli was decorated like a bride itself. The guests were pouring in. There were more guests than there were at the engagement of Anandi and Jagdeesh. It was the evening of Anandi's sangeet and mehendi. Anandi was forcefully being dressed for the occasion by the girls. She did not want any taam jhaam but it was her parents' wish to have a grand wedding for her. The women were singing traditional Rajasthani songs for the mehendi ceremony. Dressed in a beautiful green fish tail ghagra choli Anandi looked like she was all set to be Jagdeesh's bride but only she knew the truth. She was still hoping for a miracle. Bhago had paid attention to every little thing. She wanted everything beautiful for her laado's wedding. Anandi was looking around for Shiv and Saumyaa but there was no sign of them. She was sad that they were not there but happy that Jagdeesh had not come either. Her happiness was short lived as at that exact moment Jagdeesh entered with his family. Anandi looked at everyone who was shocked to see the groom's family there only BHago had a welcoming smile on her face. Anandi understood at once that it was her mother's doing. She had not left a chance to drill it into Anandi's head that Jagdeesh is her present and future. Anandi and Jagdeesh were made to sit on a swing. Jagdeesh was rubbing his arm on Anandi and tried to get up. Jagdeesh undermined her discomfort when she gave him a disgusted look he put his arm around hers and slightly brushed her breast. Anandi wanted to slap Jagdeesh for misbehaving with her. She kept her vopice as low as she could.
Anandi: Jagdeesh apna haath hatao!
Jagdeesh: Kyun hatoon main apna haath? Tumhaara hone wala pati hoon haq hai mera tumhe choone ka. Waise Anandi haq hai na ya apne saare haq tum already kisi aur ko de chuki ho?
Anandi was shocked at his cheap question. What the hell did he mean by it? Anandi could no longer take it as Jagdeesh's hand travelled from her shoulder to her waist and back and from the gap in between her arm and her breast he slid his hand and squeezed her breast. Anandi was in tears as she had to bear this torture for life as she had promised her mother. Her savior, Shiv was not where to be seen. Saachi saw this and she being Anandi best friend also Shiv's sister had to do something.
Saachi: Chalo ab mehendi ki rasam ke liye aaye hain toh mehendi nahi lagwani kya?
The mehendi ceremony was about to begin and just then Anandi's phone rang. Jagdeesh's name flashed on the screen. She looked around and saw him glaring at her as she did not pick up his phone on the first ring. He signed her to answer his call at once or else... If she had been alone she would have let it ring but all the other ladies saw that it was Jagdeesh's phone so they all insisted she answer it.
Anandi: Haan bolo...
Jagdeesh: Anandi mer bat kaan kholkar suno... main nahi chahta ki mehendi wali ko tum naam dene mein koi mistake karo... Wo kya hai na ki aaj kal tum kahin kisi ke khayalo mein jo khoyi rehti ho... And haan ek aur baat sun lo mehendi mein mera naam jahaan likha ho mujhe bata dena... Wo kya hai na main time waste nahi karna chahta tumhaare haathon mein apna naam ki chaap dhoondhne mein... Main poori raat acche se utilize karna chahta hoon... Tumhaare jism ke har hisse par apni chaap chodne mein...
Anandi felt disgusted with Jagdeesh. She did not want his shadow to fall on her and there he was talking about marking her body. How could someone be so cheap! He had barely spoken twice to her and he was already acting like a typical husband and talking nonsense with her. The mehendiwali came forward and sat in front of Anandi.
Anandi: Ek minute rukiye. Ma aisi rasam hoti hai na jab ladki ki saas mehendi ka shagun karti hai hone wali bahu ko sabse pehla mehendi ka teeka lagakar.
Dsa: Haan beenddi aisa hove hai. Aaja ...
Anandi: Ira ma aaiye na kijiye na shagun mere haathon mein...
Bhago: Anandi Sumitra ji teri hone wali sas hain.
Anandi: Par ma Ira ma unse badi hain aur wo bhi toh meri shaadi ke baad meri saas banengi na? UNka bhi toh rishta hai aapke hone wale jamaisa ke saath.
Dsa: Haan beenddi sach kehve hai tu. Ira mhaari choori hai Jagdeesh ki ek lauti bua hai toh thaari saas hui na wo aur Sumitra se badi bhi hai... Ira chhori aaja tum shagun ki mehendi laga apni hone wali benddi ke haathon mein.
Ira came forward and put a dot of mehendi on Anandi's palm as shagun. She caressed Anandi's cheek and also blessed her. She signed to Anandi that there is no point in doing all this. Anandi was shocked to see the helplessness on Ira's face. She understood that Ira too wanted her to be Shiv's wife and Saumyaa's mother. Everyone was helpless because Shiv was not making a move towards a lifetime of happiness for himself, Anandi and Saumya. The mehendiwali came and began making a design on Anandi's hands.
Mehendiwali: Apne hone wale pati ka naam bataiye.
Anandi did not take Jagdeesh's name. The chachi, mami, masi and buas all told her to take her would be husband's name and that there was no need to feel shy in front of them. Anandi did not want to write Jagdeesh's name on her hand. The lines of her kismet were in her hands and she did not want his name to be in her kismet. Anandi was again told to take her would be husband's name but she did not.
"Jo naam dil mein ho use haathon par likhna zaroori nahi hota."
Anandi looked up and saw that it was Muskaan. Saumyaa's pediatrician and the girl Mahi liked. Anandi smiled at her as she had saved her from being marked with Jagdeesh's name. The traditional mehehndi songs playing did not go with the mood. Muskaan decided to do something about it. She asked the dholi and the musicians and the dancers to give her company.

The mehendi was being put on Anandi's hands till the elbow. All the time Anandi not once had looked at the design being made on her hand. She was continuously looking at the door and waiting for Shiv to come.

Shiv did not come instead Jagdeesh had come with his family. Mahi and Muskaan had their eyes on Anandi who had her eyes on the main door. They knew that she was waiting for Shiv to but they too like her were helpless. She was waiting for Shiv to come and a miracle which they were sure was not going to happen. They tried to instigate her to speak her mind by their song and dance.
Mahi:

Anandi was helpless and everyone around her was too. The mehendi ceremony ended but Shiv did not come to stop it. Anandi got up from the bajot and she ran towards her room. All the ladies said she was feeling low as she would soon leave her babuls angan and go to her piya's home.
Anandi was in her room and was crying bitterly. No one came to her as Dsa asked her to be let alone as these were the last couple of days of her in her maayka. She and her family took leave as they had to prepare for the sangeet ceremony which would take place at Kalyani Devi's haveli. After everyone left Bhago came to Anandi's room. She was beyond angry on seeing what Anandi had done.
Bhago: Anandi! Ye kya kiya tune? Tune mehendi dho dali ab rang nahi chahdega.
Anandi: Accha hai waise bhi main nahi chahti ki kisi aur ka rang mujhpar chade sivay meri bacchi ke pita ke.
Bhago: Anandi Shiv ke aane ki ummeed chod de wo nahi aane wale.
Anandi: Aur agar wo aa gaye toh kya sabke saamne mera haath unke haath mein de dengi aap ma?
Bhago: Uski nuaubat hi nahi aayegi kyunki wop khud tujhe teri shaadi ke mandap tak le jaayega. Anandi tu samajh kyun nahi rahi wo teri khushi chahte hain tera byah uss se karakar jise tune pyar kiya hai.
Anandi: Meri khushi chahte hain toh unse kahiye ki shaadi ke din aakar mujhse shaadi kar le.
Bhago saw that there was no point arguing with her stubborn daughter who was not her daughter anymore. She was just thinking like Saumyaa's mother. She asked one of the girls to come and put mehendi tattoo for Anandi. When the girl came she had brought a note for Anandi which Jagdeesh had left for her. Anandi was made to get ready for the sangeet ceremony.
Flashback ended.
Shiv: I am sorry Anandi... Main nahi jaanta tha ki Jagdeesh itni giri hui harkatein karega...
Anandi: Mehendi wale din par usne jo kiya wo toh bas shuruaat thi uske girne ki. Aap soch bhi nahi sakte utna neeche gir sakta hai wo... Samajh nahi aata itne acche ghar parivaar se hoka wo aisa kaise ho sakta hai? Sangeet ki shaam meri zindagi ka sabse bada bharam toota... Uss din mujhe mere pyar ki sacchai ka pata chala...
Shiv: Kaisi sacchai Anandi? Kya likha tha uss note mein?
Anandi looked at Shiv. She could clearly see the pain in his eyes and the fear that Anandi was to relive the most painful time of her life. He was putting up a strong face for her but she could see right through him just like she saw through her children when they hid something from her. Soumya was like Shiv in every manner but Saumyaa too was like Shiv when it came to hiding the truth from Anandi. They just could not do it. Anandi smiled at Shiv. She caressed his face and was ready to continue.
