Used to be one of my bachpan ka fave movies.

But again, all the points are so damn true - I also couldn't fathom how a London based family would want to marry off their London-grown daughter to somebody in a village? And that too, somebody whom they have not met?

Really? I happens all the time. And its just a guess but those marriages last longer some gora couple living together for 6 years having babies.. and get married n divorce in next 6 months.

Defies logic, doesnt it?

It is such a stupid movie...

Who the hell would marry off their daughter in a freaking village to a boy she has never met ...when the girl has been raised in London all her life...How did that idiot of a Dad think his daughter is going to adjust...i mean I have seen selfish parents...but this selfish...never🤢

Then Raj and Simran play with the feelings of that girl ...without even thinking about how its going to hurt her when she comes to know that she was just being used...

The only thing I liked about this movie was the concept that in India...families marry each other not just the boy and girl...so Raj wanted to marry Simran with the blessings of her parents...This was the saving grace of this whole movie...which otherwise was just crap

It surely is a silly movie.
But I can believe that people can marry their daughters like this, and those were 90's and I'd seen these things in post 2000.
Anyway, you know for me romantic dramas like this are BS, unless there is SRK. He kinda makes them believable for me, as compare any silly story to his own life...its not less crazy.

Well it doesn't happen all the time, Thank You. 😆

Parents might want to get their daughters to grooms they find suitable, that does happen. But a complete volte face. Some times I guess.

But do all other kind of couples, apart from the kind shown in the movie, end up divorcing/ leaving each other some time?

There are no logical conclusions to any such issues.

Anyway, chill. It still is one of my fave movies.

Hahaha...nyc one.

Though must say at d time it was released der was a lot of novelty in d movie. If I am not mistaken dis was d first movie on NRIs nd also before tht movies showed d boy-girl eloping to get married, whereas dis was d first time d guy didn't want to elope, but wanted d blessings of d girl's family, especially father. In retrospect, it seems more like egos coming in play, wid both d guy nd d gal's father hellbent on having their way.😆

Also I remember SRK mentioned dat he wanted Raj to take bet with his frnds abt winning over Simran's father and after Simran's father giving in, Raj saying he won, but Adi said it wldn't go down well with the audiences.😳
