At the core of it, I think it is mutual. Rudra also instinctively trusts her. I dont want to list out everything thats proves it but the gradual shift in their dynamics is that trust has been growing between them. He knows on some level that to the outside world they present a united front when technically he should be suspicious of her every move.
Also he does now picture himself as her protector. He may warn her that he wont be there to save her but in the very next instance he there looking out for her. I think unbeknownst to him he slipped into that role instinctively but now he recognizes it and whats more he doesn't abhor it like he should. There isnt even a moment of self questioning in him. Its second nature now.
