A pair of eyes were trained on several specks of dust that glimmered in the sunshine.

Snowfall, she thought as she watched them swirl mindlessly.

The heat penetrated through the window and illuminated into the small room, casting a golden glow over the broken canvases, the fallen paint pots, the incomprehensible scratches and scribbles against the wall.

She cowered in the darkest corner of the room, holding onto an impossible shadow that was due to fade away with time.

Her eyes fell shut as she let out a faint whimper, and caged herself into her arms.

"Does anyone know about her diagnosis?"

He shook his head.

"Has she been taking her medication?"

"I stopped them when Maan arrived."

A silence fell over them. Naina brought the blanket to her face, covering the lower part of her mouth.

"You blame me for this as well, don't you?"

"I don't know what you've done to her, Dev."

"I was trying to save her."

The clock on the wall ticked painfully slowly. The ticking began to ring in his ears.

"Tomorrow you go back to her and do the right thing by her, for once."

She laid down on her side of the bed and turned off the lamp.

The smoke from the cigarette blew in small circled around him. The night was chilly but it numbed his senses, for which he was grateful.

He had been trying not to think, trying not to comprehend or remember or feel, but there was something about the darkness which pulled you back into the deepest conscience of your mind.

It will be better if I forget, he had told himself; but alas, how do you forget? How can the human mind forget so easily when his entire world had been shaken?

There was a nagging feeling stirring inside of him. Something was wrong, and he had to go back to her.

Yet he couldn't. After Dev's planned disappearance, he had tried. Tried to live with her. Tried to deal with the distance between them. Tried to compensate for everything that had been done, all the knots and tangles that bound the three of them together - and in equal measurements, pulled them apart.

But it was too difficult. It was too difficult and he had been weak and ultimately he had decided that you couldn't save someone who couldn't save themselves.

Geet was gone. There was no way back to her any more, for either of them.

He dropped the flickering cigarette from his finger to the floor, and crushed it firmly with his boot.

Apologies for the almost three month delay in updating, and apologies in the further delay-delay after my previous post. I will try my best to update this whenever I can, so I will make no promises.

But a heartfelt thank you to everyone who is still interested in the story and who take their time out to read and comment - it really means a lot and it's the only thing that keeps me motivated to write.

What is going on in the story, I hear you ask in frustration. Well, the floor is open. Share your suggestions and guesses - who knows, one of you may hit the jackpot and unravel the mystery ;)

Oh my!

How traumatizing for Geet!

Holding onto shadows, covering in the dark. I have always wondered about that after reading Nicholas Sparks novel about the wife who was losing her memory and the husband kept on trying to deal with it. How does one survive when there is only a moment of remembrance left? It is a crushing thought.

Does NT feel guilty about taking Dev away from her?

Very lovely the way you are writing Foz. I love puzzles in people. It makes them more interesting and their tale more riveting.

beautifully written update..

it's painful to see Geet in such depressed and lonely state..she wants to remain in the dark, the painting hobby is also not helping her come out...Dev's disappearance and Maan's leaving her, have made her more weak mentally.

while helping her what they have done to her...she is weak to support herself now...I hope Maan does not lose the hope and goes back to her.

one more thing..title nahi diya chapter ka...😊

yup mannu she did...

finally i got to know who is she... when avi was calling her foz.. i was thinking..* i heard this name before... scratching my chin*😆
