We can't blame the CVs for what they show in Pavitra Rishta.

The cvs have stopped showing Pavitra Rishta in this show for more than a year now and we continue to support them.

It is the viewers who steer the wheels of how the story lines go.

Arman were destroyed by their own actions and lack thereof and as viewers we all took sides.

Some took Archana's and others too Manav's, whether it was wrong or right or both.

The ones who took Archana's was the majority, so everything related to her, viewers supported.

Hence,Sulo was supported as long as she kept in line with Archana and Purvi, and Purvi was number one in those viewers eyes.

Those who took Manav's side, supported everything related to him, Arman's children including Sachin and Savita.

Post leap everything went haywire.

Cvs took advantage of the majority choice and realised that even if it took hurting Arman's Bio children to support those close to Archana, such as Purvi, viewers would not mind. Their analysis turned out to be a success.

Purvi would reunite Arman and break Ovi's life all in one go. Viewers enjoyed as their feelings are only concentrated in one area.

Two birds killed with one stone Manav and Savita suffered for what the majority perceived as their Karma for Archana being separated from them for 18 yrs and anything related to Archana would be victorious including her.
For the cvs more money in the bank.

This never made any sense to me, because my thought is that if Purvi would be the angel from above to save Arman, why would she turn around and be the nemesis for their own daughter.

Then it dawned on me that Post Leap the majority like-minded viewers was split into Two Sets of viewers, some wavering between both and the Cvs saw it and ran with it.
First
The viewers who were still sentimental about Arman but had bigger heart for Archana.
and Second
The viewers who were no longer as impressed by Arman, and the show was void of the most important thing to them, some sizzling romance.
Hence the birth of Arvi Fans.

The cvs saw that they had two stories parallel to each other and decided to play it for what it is worth.
Purvi would be Arman support for the sentimental viewers, hence they liked her.
Then
Purvi would benefit from having the boy whose marriage was fixed with Ovi, viewers liked this because the cvs spiced it up by making Ovi look like the spoilt brat, and who cares about her she was brought up by Manav and Savita, so Ovi is the enemy.
Compounded by the fact that Purvi depicted the hot head smart girl who put the rich boy in his place and made him completely Sprung. Through this storyline the cvs have pleased the middle class audience of women and the women who want women to dominate.

Cvs know that from ever since the beginning of serial time, most of the Indian audience thrive on chemistry, rain scenes and lots of excitement and the majority viewers were no exception.
The cvs worked with this and realised that viewers did not care about the ethical implications of Arjun, Purvi and Ovi, as Ovi was never important, they just wanted some chemistry and Arjun and Purvi they saw as perfect match.

The cvs know at the end of the day, most viewers don't care about what is wrong or right, they just want the show to go on and that sizzling hot chemistry must always be on screen.

However, what they never bargained for was the household viewers in India not supporting Purvi going from Onir back to Arjun, and not staying in her marriage. Afterall, arrange marriages is the age old culture, and brides work on their marriage with dedication and determination. This was not shown with Purvi.
The cvs thought that the audience would have been so sentimental about Arvi, that they would throw away their age old values and support Arvi reunion gladly. So, they came up with making Onir negative, yet it seems that is still not working because they see through the cvs.

Now, the cvs are in a bind, but they want to reunite Arvi, they are having a hard time.

The viewers, made the story the way it is, not the cvs made the story.

Therefore, the cvs will play all of these observations, due to us the viewers reactions to what they put out and they will play with what we want and don't want simultaneously to stretch the show out for as long as possible.

This works every time, and that is why Ekta shows always run for long periods, and she has not been shunned from society for her writing. The sentimental viewers for romance are her prized possessions.

My POV.

beautiful analysis

agree completely

we r to be blamed as we watch this

so long as we watch , they will show

to keep chemistry of some sort on screen they go on butchering the grey characters

the villains r used to fuel the love stories

the grey characters r developed or butchered along the way

Savita , Ovi , Soham r the grey characters

they will get shades as and when CVs feel fit

the leads NEVER lead a normal life . Seperation is always there . Consummation is shown rarely or only once coz it is the biggest hook to the show

The formula is , get the viewers hooked ,then seperate them , then keep the carrot dangling and when channel tells to wind up , suddenly and hurriedly unite them or kill them off .

the formula also is flattering the ego of the women viewers . They r the majority of the viewership . So wooing is shown , putting men in places is shown , sass is appreciated as spirit , apologies from men only r shown , men giving various tests r shown , pampering women in the name of romance is shown .

The ego gets a high coz it never happens in real life . If in real life a woman does a case on her husband and tries to destroy his financial credibility she will NEVER be accepted back again . If a girl dumps a guy on his wedding day at the altar the guy will be incensed and never see her face again . But this femdom [ pardon me ] is sold coz women like to see their own in power .

So hilly , you r spot on .

Hilly, great analysis...

And some of it you hit the nail right in the head.

See, the serial watchers in India still are largely the house wives. LArgely the women watch serials and men watch sports and news. Much like in the West. So, see a teleserial caters to women folks in general. Not only that their sentiments also need appeasement, So, we have serial like housewife etc. - glorification of women who stays women. Consequently, women who are office workers are looked down and taken with a pinch of salt., eg; Varsha. See how the office environment is bad and independent women aren't good. Again, a justification shown to appease the crowd. Also, see women like Archana and Purvi always either with their spouse or with their boss. Even if that behavior is outright wrong and in real setting will get them fired. Can a real life Purvi survive in Corporate world? Dream on. Same with, the rich and poor equation. One has to remember, Capitalism was only introduced in India in the early '90s. So, Rich people are bad, lacking sanskars and Rich Kids, oh mine - devil incarnated and need to be taught Sans kaar lessons by middle class Sanskaari girls. Notice, Middle Class is epitomized and glorified to a point that becomes unbelievable. Same with Foreign vs. Desi Kids. Desi Kids are always good and sanskaari - sometimes, you wander if India do venture outside India yet. But, they do - limited in number and always are much more educated (so either for education or economically strong to afford vacationing outside India) or as parents of highly educated kids. But, even then, these numbers are so limited, that any PH can get away just exploiting the same age old sentiments into so called new storylines. Actually, now even we really take a closer, the storyline and also characters are all same too - just to a different degree.PR is just no different - the same glorification of poverty is shown, the same prejudice against foreign ppl are entertained.

So, PR2 was in a sense an exact replicate of PR1 - women in middle class are sanskaari ones, sacrificing for the well being of the family. This is also a middle class sentiment, where women do have to sacrifice a lot, esp. in a joint setting. Although, I do understand the reasons, why PR 1 was a hit, I always question, whether the extend of moral degradation is being shown, especially, who are considered noble and carrier of dharohar (legacy) of Sanskar, will be palatable to middle class audience, who pride is their education, character and Sanskar (remember, they think they are the best) and are the reason why Indian Culture is still intact. So, I am very eager to see, how the tracts goes now. I don't think that Ovi was ever considered good, because she is rich. But the "good' Purvi in a premarital sex, swapping babies, marrying with Jeeju - not to mention, her not roughing it out with Onir. For to an average Indian - nothing is greater than Sacrifice, Duty and honor...let us wait and see. This has almost become an interesting case study and whatever the result will be, it will be an eye-opener for me...

Oh kool, so true...all tactics are just to hold on the crowd as long as possible. Besides, without drama what will the middle class do, esp. the housewives - how will they escape their routine lives. So, all is catered towards their appeasement of women folks. Even them winning every time over men- rich or poor, is an appeasement of that fantasy that never materializes in the real world. So, men always bow down - the tele serials in a way provide the middle class with the power, they never have - but always dream of...Yes, a fairy tale acted for their pleasure only and only caters that fan their fantasy...

Thanks Kalapi,

You have now successfully added more to my Post.
You have also given me more information that I was not knowledgeable about the culture.

Now, I see that my culture is not much different in their views. Rich is seen as bad here also. They are seen as the ones who do outrageous and immoral things.
Middle class girls here are not far from rich in my culture, in that they can enjoy similar things that the rich enjoy here, like the same schools, material things, vacations etc. Mainly because the parents are professionals and make a good living.
However, more is expected of middle class girls than rich girls, to behave a certain way. For instance, you don't entertain boys with the knowledge of your parents, unless you have very liberal parents, and in that case, protection is discussed and provided.
At the same time, with the exposure to other cultures, middle class girls are losing their values more and more.
There was a time when girls could not go out anywhere without a chaperone approved by parents, now middle class girls are almost as free as rich girls.

In my culture, you have middle class girls who marry rich boys. Their bonding was not because the middle class girls were better nor the rich boys bad, but they would find things they had in common, and in a lot of cases they went to the same schools or the same parties or private functions.
Of course there was a time when it was unheard of but over the past few decades things have changed.

Times are changing, but I really hope India does not lose too much of its values, it would be a shame, as your culture is one of the few dinosaurs left.

Thanks Hilly, I am glad. But India is changing and I not necessarily think that change is bad. A country that was under the foreign rule for 6 + years, Starting with the Moghuls mainly, has lost a lot of time. So, India like rest of the world is furiously coping the West, in all walks of life. Besides, I truly and proudly believe India has so much to offer to the world. At one point, India was only referred is terms of spirituality and self realization. That is changing as well. My only hope is that India can really copy the good things that the West offer - work commitment, works ethics. The West also has a lot too offer too, to India.

But getting back, Indai has to struggle a lot post independence – and the majority of people that form the then Indian populations were either below the poverty line, having lost it all to a century old independence war, and immigration due to partition. People struggled and what did they have during those dark, hard days – their Sanskaar, their value system, their immense pride about themselves, their patriotism towards their country, honor, pride and a sense of duty.

I will never say premarital sex never happened. But if it happened, then the Girl could have been promptly married off to that guy or to any other guy through an arranged marriage. Or an abortion was the option. In this regard, I am curious how the demographics have changed. I haven't seen any statistics yet that they are unmarried girls bringing up a kid as a result of unprotected sex without marriage. I really am very interested to see. Even a real life example could be so helpful- an example I could refer too. The old real life example I know of Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta. I could also like to see data of how open the public is to such pregnancies and kids. These are major issues that changes societies. But, I have only heard it happens.

You know a long time back there was a serial in Doordarshan that should pregnancy out of wedlock. The Hero fell in love with the girl, got her pregnant, but for some reason ended up marrying someone else. This girl couldn't abort for whatever reason gave birth and herself became a Sanyasini. The serial name was Buniyaad. Even in movies, such pregnancies only led to prostitutions. Not necessarily, this is a good or a healthy outcome of an act of young inexperienced people. I definitely could like to see a change in acceptance with a solid education of pros and cons of teenage pregnancies and premarital sex. But, is India even open to talk about such serious issues, let alone acceptance of such things??

Well, I wish my society never accepted half the things the First World had to offer in terms of values.

Let us face it. If we had continued to keep certain values when all our ancestors came to my country, instead of adapting the negative of the west, we would not have so many pregnancies out of wedlock. It is unreal when you see how natural it is for women to have babies before marriage and in a lot of cases more than one for different Fathers. This is of course mainly in the poorer class. At the same time, there are some cases of middle and upper class girls having children out of wedlock, the only difference is they will have maybe just one, unlike the girls from poorer classes.
The poorer class men, most of the time shun their responsibilities as Fathers, so you can imagine the turmoil here.
Based on research the blame is placed on hardships and separation of families and the values during the struggles for independence.

I support women being careful in how they handle their bodies before marriage, because a lot of times, the men, like in my country believe that why buy the whole cow when they are already getting the milk.
That is why I don't support premarital sex, not just because of the moral implications if you believe in God, but the mere fact that you shorten your chances of getting married, or to someone who is worthy of you, if you get pregnant.

For example with Purvi, if she did not get pregnant, she would not have to marry the first man who asked, see the situation now. Let us say the deal never happened, what if Arjun had died right before the wedding?these things happen.
However, as elders explaining, the younger generation do not understand, they take it that we are judging them. They cannot understand that we are showing them the smart path.

It is good if India make changes with the rest of the world, but only positive ones should be encouraged, and in these times, the positive values in the west are very limited. I can only hope they will mainly adapt the changes that are positive.

Oh Hilly, I totally agree with you that there are many perils of premarital sex especially in women who are teenagers and are economically dependent to someone else. I have seen it up close in the West. Even when one is earning, she gets preggo, the man can just walk out saying he doesn't want that responsibility. It happen to my colleague and in her case, the stress wasn't money, but being a first time mom – it is no cake walk taking care of kids all alone. The mental stress plus balancing work/life becomes a huge challenge, and work becomes important to just put that bread on the table.

See PR did show reality of unwed pregnancy in case of Shravani. But, see since she wasn't the Trinity, she faced what an average Indian faces in such a situation….and I also remember the bashing she got from the forum for her one unsanskari act😆…my, how the table turned 😆😆
