I can connect with your every line on the once kahdoos, gentle, confident, strong and ardent lover AK!! RD really brought this character 'Arjun' to life with his excellent acting!! When I first saw him in PR I just couldn't take my eyes away!! RD as Arjun was initially such a captivating and appealing character that its a crying shame to see what he has been reduced to in PR!!😒
Why the CVs have relegated such a character and such talent to being a 'spot boy' in the show- is totally beyond me!! It is only fools who have treasure in their hands and simply throw it away!! The Arjun now in PR is but a ghost of the Arjun who started out in the show!! His character has been butchered almost to the point of no return from the day the CVs made the horrible mistsake of getting him married to Ovi !! This character was such a breath of fresh and modern air to the show BUT alas, look how far he has fallen in stature!!
Nevertheless- RD is such a brillint actor that he continues to do justice to the 'spot roles' that his chaarcter 'Arjun' has being given of late!! The fact is- you can try to keep a good, talented man down BUT you can't deprive him of what he already has- his goodness and his talents!! Despite all of this, Arjun is still my favourite character in PR and that is only because it is RD who has given Arjun reel life!!

Both Post are really awesome.

Nothing substantial and i think its a shame for even when he was introduced , i never found him arrogant or ill mannered at all but well mannered and a professional . It was Purvi who was ill mannered and super arrogant and had no office etiquette whatsoever . In one scene he even told her lets go and discuss this in my cabin please ...each time she made issues in front of the employees , near the gate etc . He was the one with office decorum . Yet he was shown losing each time in ARVI fights and 'learning ' from Purvi . And so it has continued to date .

Kools, have you ever written your take on Arjun? I would love to read what you think about him and how should he be redeemed from the present situation..

See , this is my take on Arjun . I had given some of it in a post that said he was sidelined . I had agreed . But i will give it in more detail here as this thread is running well .

Arjun Kirloskar is the most flawed , credible and human character created in PR . He relates to even viewers who don't agree with his actions bcoz he is real . His weakness
[ love for Purvi] is real ...there r men like that who r besotted by their lovers and do even murder for them or if told by them .

Arjun also did a murder when told by his lover . He murdered his own happiness .

When he was introduced , he was the perfect businessman . Brusque , professional ...with office decorum followed to the hilt . He was called inhuman for that but i never saw him that way.Thats the way it should be . In the ARVI pair , i always found him the one with office etiquette . Never saw arrogance in him as often accused by Purvi ...it puzzled me . I only found a confusion in him in trying to understand the business psyche of a third world country.
I found her to be super arrogant , judgemental , lacking office etiquette and behaving like a fishwife by making public issues in front of the employees , near the gate , by threatening to sue him and inciting the office employees against him .

He was judged for his wealth and his Canadian upbringing . He was shown to lose each ARVI fight and 'learn' from Purvi . That the chote log lifestyle is the best , that India had the best sanskaars . I always felt that it was exactly the opposite . That it was she who could learn from him ...for he had a much much wider exposure than her . He had seen the cultures of many countries and he dealt with people having different lifestyles . If her exposure was limited , his was wider and she could have learnt a thing or two from him . Indian bosses r far too impatient too and clearly tell their employees that their personal problems should be kept aside and work should be done efficiently . This , inspite of living in India . They r very clear that they r running a business not a social service camp . Purvi's demands were atrocious and would have never been entertained by any Indian boss who would have told her to take a hike . Where his Canadian upbringing and the subsequent inhumanity came in the picture was a puzzle to me .

The serial has hyped on Purvi's love for her mother Archana . But i found Arjun's love for his dead mother Ashna more touching . Clearly , she was a part of the way his psyche developed. He was emotional about his mother and he gave hundred percent to a woman when he fell in love bcoz he clearly felt that woman would step in her void and make him immensely happy again by always being there for him . He was innocent that way . He really believed that .

But if his mother would have prioritized him and made him very happy , the girl he loved and expected her to love back like her deprirotized him and made him very unhappy . She did not love him uncondtionally like his mother but put conditions and conditions in front of him. She did not love him like his mother but loved her mother only . He had asked her in an emotional moment that she would never ever leave him like his mom . He got a very practical lesson ...lovers don't necessarily love unconditionally like moms .

In the ARVI pair , he really and truly ' loved' . Ever since he met Purvi , life was one big test for him comprised of many many small tests and he gave each of them without blinking . Right from staying in a chawl to listening to her atrocious suggestions of marrying Ovi ...he listened to everything . She was his priority ...but for her , Archana was the priority .

I have always maintained that Purvi doesn't know the L of love .

Arjun gave his hundred percent when he fell for a girl bcoz

He was untouched by the feminine psyche as he had paid no attention to them . He was always heavily immersed in work . He did not sleep around nor did he have girlfriends . Just as he was shown to be mystified by the joy of new fatherhood when he felt the baby's first kick or upon seeing it for the first time , he was mystified by the joy or euphoria of meeting the love of his life and decided then and there to give his commitment his hundred percent .

He also gave his hundred % bcoz he missed his mother and innocently thought that the girl who came in his life would love him back uncondtionally like her .

The girl , however , witheld . She did not love him back hundred % but rather carefully.

Where he went wrong

In listening to everything whatever Purvi said .

He should have refused to marry Ovi . He should have told Purvi , fine u don't marry me if u wish , but I won't marry Ovi especially after being intimate with u .

He should not have given Archana's test . He should have told her clearly i am sorry , i won't disown my father or my upbringing even for a month as he has brought me up with the same love u have brought up your daughter after my mother's death . Being rich is not a crime . Accept me as i am coz i love ur daughter as she is .

He should have been shown worrying about his childhood friend after the break up coz he had spent his childhood with her . He was not shown giving her any thought but just as a lover .

In not truly working on his marraige once he made the commitment . He thought that giving a wife food , shelter and clothing is doing his 'farz' and there is a dialogue to this effect . No ...the wife did not lack this in her father's house . He kept her unhappy even when she was pregnant .

Not basically a liar and has courage

Arjun is not a pathological liar like Purvi . He became the bad guy and took a lot of flak from the Deshmukh family by honestly breaking off with Ovi . This action can be crtiqued but it takes a lot of courage too . He told honestly in a public party that he still loved his ex . He could not hide his feelings and even daydreamed in the bedroom till his wife noticed . Arjun cannot pretend as he is basically truthful and lies only when coached by Purvi which i find shameful . His character must be evolved not destroyed .

What he needs

Growing up , power packed dialogues and a POV of his own .

Power packed dialogues r just not given to him . I have already said that an angry Arjun can pull in the TRPs . When Purvi traded him in the infamous deal they could have shown him saying

Both of u made a deal but the difference was she wanted me in the deal while u gave me up .

I wanted him to learn about the pregnancy and fight a custody battle and win by proving in court that Purvi lied and that he could give more to the child and that he was not at all unwilling to take responsibilty of the child .

But CVS took another route . The custody case can still happen , i want this tyaag to bombard on Purvi's face .

It should be shown that after giving up the child , Purvi regrets her decision and plays the mamta card and says i cannot live without her and i want her back . Onir then tells all that is indeed Purvi's child .

Well this is where the unpredictable should happen . Arjun should refuse to give his daughter back . Uptill now he has not refused Purvi any thing but he should refuse this demand and tell her to fight it out in court .

I listened to everything u said but she is not just ur daughter she is my daughter too . I lost my other child in the accident , not this one .

You should have thought before giving her up , where was your mamta then

You were going to keep her from me if my other baby had survived ...i would have never known my blood had arrived in this world

With all due respect , u gave up ur own kids ...so why cannot ur daughter do the same
[ this to Archana ]

I am going to fight for my kid unlike u who just gave them up without a fight as my thoughts r different .[ this to Archana when she pleads on Purvi's behalf .]

RD needs power packed dialogues like this . Right now the CVs have given him only 2 dialogues ...Relax and Sit Sit Sit . And weep weep weep .

His love for his blood must outweigh his love for his ex . He has capability of loving 100 %
well the same crazy , passionate love he had for Purvi should be there for his daughter and that should be something Purvi had not bargained for .

Why r CVs so afraid of showing that a man can love his blood as passionately as he loved his ex once . Why this hesitation .

Viewers will relate to any filial passion track .

If this is done Arjun will become popular once more . Instead of weeping , he should be shown growing up and loving his daughter and as a dad . If this angle is focussed on , his past mistakes will be forgiven .

Super Post. We all ARVAN many days demand to CVs that we want our real hero Khadoos Boss Arjun Return. I dont like the current track. This track is totally horrible. This track butchered ARVI character too much. why they are making Arjun a woman??why they make him cry always?? Why giving him just 1 min time onscreen??? we want Arvi back. But restore Arjun first like a man whom we have seen before.

Very well said, Kools...yes, I would like to see that Arjun come back too, for any reason they can come up with.it always surprised me why they never showed him angry at Purvi, which would have been consistent with his character as he was a fighter always, not the one to give up. When he married Ovi, he comes back to Purvi saying, 'watch what's going to happen'.. We thought he would fight back, but nothing happened and then started wimping out his character much to my amazement. Then started his downfall and is continuing to this day. Dont know why the writers did it and for what reason. He is not even a shadow of what he used to be. I do hope they bring him back, for the actor would do great justice to it and make PR more interesting and not so one-sided and women-centric. For me he is the most real character of PR.

And yes for some reason in indian films and soaps, kids grown up outside of India are always shown negative or on the losing side compared to the ones that grew up in India.. They prob need to catch on to the fact that most kids growing up outside do have their values, ethics and culture intact and have a definite sense of right and wrong and are individualistic and responsible. They do not have to be generalized as how they are shown. They do have good and bad qualities individually like kids in india too..Dont know when this will change, annoys me whnever they are shown in bad light without a reason and without justification, just not in PR, but everywhere. This is one of my fav gripes 😊

Kools,

This is the single most comprehensive take I have ever seen on Arjun Kirloskar,as he was, as he failed to be, and he should now at least try to be. Padke dil khush ho gaya, especially the parts about where he went wrong and why. Congratulations, and thank you.

I always held that there is, in every love affair, one who loves and one who is loved, and no prizes for guessing who is what here! I used to rage against all the nonsense that Arjun was taking from Purvi, making a doormat of himself not just for her but for her aai as well.Purvi was not Arjun's strength, as I had hoped, but a crippling weakness that has all but done him in. But then he was never the first or even the 11th in her list of priorities. It reminds me of nothing so much as that professor who falls in love with Marlene Dietrich in The Blue Angel, and sinks and sinks and sinks.

I loved the line" Arjun also did a murder when told by his lover . He murdered his own happiness ." I remember once writing the obverse of this, about Purvi, that she had committed a murder, of the Arjun Kirloskar who had been.

I think she is going to destroy Onir as well now, poor chap, or at least hurt him seriously. The woman in a regular demolition machine, who does nothing but damage the men unfortunate enough to fall in love with her. First it was Arjun, now it is Onir. Both of them should rue the day they ever set eyes on her, but of course neither will do so. Instead, both will follow her around like tame poodles, and pander to every insane demand of hers, whatever the cost to themselves.

Oh well, what is the use of all these laments? I suddenly felt so nostalgic today about Arjun Kirloskar circa April 2012 that I dug up my posts of that month about my two favourite scenes - the one with Aashana, and the one at the mandir the day he is supposed to leave for Canada - and recirculated them for similar nostalgia-affected folk. What more can one do? For now, I truly enjoyed this lucid, logical, and very forceful essay of yours.

Zoya is naive and new to Ekta world and so she doesn't know what all Ekta can do..
