Dear Ash,
"
I guess I still felt something between them. " But that is precisely the point.
You felt it, and the magic was there for
you, but it was
in you. It was a subjective experience. It is absolutely genuine and valid, but it is so for you, and of course for anyone else who feels the same way.
There is also an objective performance, and when that is superlative, everyone should feel, and will feel, not just something between them, but a lot. No, perhaps not everyone, for that never happens, but almost everyone. The reaction to the airport scene, and to the ones in the park and on the little wooden bridge, was like that, and it
was universal. I cannot remember any dissenting voices.
But when the objective performance falls short - whether the fault is that of the actor or the director or the script - those who are not fans of one or the other actor, but only discerning viewers who appreciate very good work when they see it, are going to feel shortchanged.
That, from Purvi's side, was what happened yesterday. Arjun was up to par - but then that is expected of him, for Rithwik can, as Kamalahaasan used to say, romance an empty chair. But Purvi was stilted and wooden, and the scene as a whole suffered, for one person cannot carry a love scene solo. So it did not work objectively, especially as compared to their earlier efforts.
That is the sum and substance of the thing. You are a devoted fan of Rithwik's - a groupie if you prefer that - and there is
nothing wrong with it. In any case, his Arjun was not at issue here. I am
not a fan of either Rithwik or Asha, only a discerning admirer. So when I see shoddy work, this time from her Purvi, for me that is unacceptable. If tomorrow his Arjun is as bad, I would feel the same about him.
Especially when the only reason I came back to PR was because of Arjun and Purvi as they were. I did not come back to see the kind of sub-standard Arjun-Purvi scenes they have been showing for the past 2 weeks.
The CVs should not be encouraged to think that a knowledgeable audience like the forum members can be taken for granted, and that they will be satisfied with just about anything featuring Arjun-Purvi that the CVs dish out just because they are so eager for more.
This said, there is no reason why you, or anyone else, should share my point of view, or vice versa.
@red. I am afraid I do not quite understand what that means.

Naava... I get where you're coming from... And ure right... the writers are NOT doing a good job with taking their story fwd and the character of Purvi. They actually aren't doing a good job of taking any of the tracks fwd. As for Purvi... I said previously she is not consistent anymore (and on some occasions that annoys me, like her stockholm syndrome episode)... and of course thats NO fault of the actress - Asha. Its just that they aren't sure whether they want Purvi to be thinking about her aai and the divorce, her long lost kidnapper brother and his maayi or should she be focusing on just Arjun. But when Purvi is lost in Arjun's arms alone and is not thinking about her aai she gets bashed as well for that. So... the character of Purvi is so confused.
However... I think if the writers just sat back and let RD and Asha be themselves, they would be far better off for those 2 got great off screen segments. AND... I watched the hand bandage episode again when he was in the chawl and fell from the dahi handi... and it was much more intense then. But then - Purvi was only focused on her Arjun.
I think even tho it started off slowly (stiffly would be a better word Miss Shyamala? 😊). I guess I still felt something between them.
on a another note - I wish RD all the best as well... Im not ashamed to say I have kinda become his groupie now. 😆.
Jyothi, Laurie and Vilasini... do I get company?

if i may say...the problem for me in the dance wasn't Arjun...i thought he was darling and so much in love,...it was that Purvi wasn't responding very well...there was no magic between them...it made me sad for Arjun who has gone to so much to win his lady love's heart and prove his love...the writers aren't doing justice to the character of Purvi, she was so vibrant at first...
