Dear Jyoti and Ash,
I thought that was the funniest line in PR today, and I was beginning to think that Sulochana was a fount of wisdom! Is Arjun Archana's personal property that she is being asked by Sulochana to dispose of him as she pleases? Oh my God, what next?
The second funniest line was Manav's about his
boodhi haddi (old bones). I am still laughing so much as I type this that I cannot see the lines properly! It was really side-splitting, accompanied by all that melodramatic nonsense about him taking revenge for Arjun having 'betrayed' his daughter by defeating him at the
dahi handi.
Arjun's shifting expressions during that exchange with Manav were really very subtle and superbly done, but in his heart of hearts he must have been thinking 'WHAT is the old man babbling about?' or something to that effect!
I was not surprised to see Archana give a classic imitation of having a dyspeptic attack when Sulochana informs her about Arjun having met her challenge. She is as bad a loser as one can imagine. But I thought that Arjun was going to be left to deal with Archana on his own, as Sulochana said when she stopped Purvi from breaking the 'good' news to her
aai at once. Then why did she do it herself in advance of Arjun's arrival? To confirm our reading of Archana's likely reaction? And then the priceless bit about 'Purvi or Ovi"!!
Well, I do not think Manav is going to be allowed to exercise his '
boodhi haddi" after all, for if he gets up on that pyramid, whether he wins or loses, Vishnu will not be able to chloroform him, as he can hardly clamber up after him to do so!. So they will have to spring Manav at the beginning itself, one presumes.
Then where will that leave Arjun? Unless his chawl team takes Manav's no show as his having given up without trying, and Arjun wins on his own and collects the (Rs.10000/- ?) prize. But the QM's midnight deadline would be long gone in any case, unless Janmashtami means till after the
dahi handi is over.
The 'accident' with that vehicle is so unconvincing that it would win a Razzie for the worst scene hands down against any competition (of which there would be plenty available at any given time). Here is one of the most street smart kids one has seen in ages. It is only slightly wet on the street, and he does not slip in it. He has one chappal on, and the other has come off. All he had to do was to move to the side of the road, wait for the vehicle to pass, and then retrieve the second chappal. Even if the wheel had passed over it, it is made of rubber and would not break.
So what does Churan do? He stands in the centre of the road, oblivious to the shrill horn of the oncoming vehicle, trying to slip on the second chappal till he is almost knocked down, the driver not realising that the kid would be dumb enough not to get out of the way. All because
(a) Arjun has to play the hero and save Churan from death or grievous injury at the very last instant and
(b) he must still be hurt seriously enough for him to absolutely need an 'operation' which will just about empty Arjun's pockets.
Incidentally, they forgot to mention the payment for the overtime put in by Arjun; there was only the basic salary of Rs.8000/-. How come?
This apart, the amount charged for an operation in TV soapland is always finely adjusted to use up all the disposable funds the lead character has at that moment. It is always an operation , never any simpler treatment, of course, no matter what the ailment. I have
never come across any exception to this golden rule governing all soaps, it is probably one of their Ten Commandments:
Thou shall not have a doctor proffer any treatment except an operation. This being taken as a given, this time, the amount for the 'operation' is so ridiculously low because of the low level at which Archana pegs her challenge. Any self-respecting surgeon would protest loudly at being demeaned by being asked to charge such a piddling amount!
The end result of this latest dose of high melodrama would be to:
1) heighten Arjun's appeal by showing him as a totally unselfish and very kind-hearted person, ready to risk his life's happiness for the sake of that kid.
2) make it vital for him to win the
dahi handi prize amount, regardless of his having to defeat his 'idol' (provided the Janmashtami deadline extends till that function is over).
3) place Purvi in a situation where she will
have to rebel against Archana (who will rejoice at Arjun's no show), when she finds out why he does not turn up. It will be interesting to see if she actually does so.

Jyoti,
This whole thing is nonsense... they are only doing it to prolong the whole "challenge". Very unoriginal.
However,... Glad that Arjun is compassionate and is willing to help.
Secondly, If it is indeed Manav that is kidnapped and NOT Purvi, Does this mean we will have to sit tru another month of him trying to earn Rs. 10,000 or will he win the Dahi Handi against Manav? Will they really make Arjun win over Manav?
Sooo sooo many questions and they want us to wait and watch for the answers. 😕.
