walk the line
I stood quietly paying my respects for a person i knew who now lay dead.a man shuffled quietly and creepily asked me the timing when the body was being removed for the final act.from the depths of the mother, ten months of suspended coma and in darkness the body now returns as it came without even a mention of the bodys name.i wonder why, seriously why they wont say when they will remove so and so who lies dead but politely say body eppa edukkaranga. There is a burning desire and i know it will happen that i will be aware with all senses in high alert when my body goes still.that is the final mystery and still a few years away.death has been a constant companion and a familiar guest from my childhood and i hold no bad vibes against this natural act.i guess it has to happen for all who come cannot stay back for that would mean misery.i guess me and many who are alive are not really scared of death but just what will happen after that.my worst fear is stuck in a coffin for eons and that scares the shit out of me for i am claustrophobic and my claustrophobia runs so deep that i even avoid crowds or sometimes even if it is a group of loved ones.strange but honestly that is the truth.many a time i have panicked when asked to attend dinner or lunch and lied between my teeth.these days my morning workout and work are the only things that drag or force me out from the safety of my house.i guess there must be some technical term for my condition but i beg to differ.music, books and the tv shows i download seem to carry me through the day and i dont seem to want more but solitude.but sometimes i get forced to leave the confines of my home and i do so for i love the people who invite me over and a couple of drinks down my gob and something alien shows up to the party and only the next day i am gently rebuked and chided for my lack of social graces.well the show must go on and i hope to come back with some really memorable situations.

Satish, I like the way you can write down your thoughts, fears and pain for everyone to openly see.
I think it's great because words give you the insight to one's own problems - you can choose to either deal with them or not deal with them or forget about them and move on.
But you cannot ignore them and pretend they don't exist.

With respect to late Robin Williams sad demise (RIP), I found it chilling how he had cleverly expressed his inner dark thoughts on the comic stage and on interviews with a good witty joke and ended it by saying "just kidding."
He made everyone laugh, yes...but sometimes at the expense of his own sadness too.

JUST KIDDING. Those are two words that always make me feel uncomfortable.

I remember hearing those words from a patient one day.
He was in his mid-50s, hadn't taken a bath or shaved or changed clothes in days, looked down at the floor, appeared detached from everything around him...
and when I came to meet him and asked "what's wrong?"
for the first time, he looked up at me and said quietly "You're pretty."
Seeing the non-plussed look on my face, he quickly said "Hey, sorry...I was just kidding" and he laughed it off.
I wasn't laughing. But now I really became curious.
I asked him "Does that mean you were lying?"
"No...no...no...what I meant was...I mean, what I said was..."
Conversation continued till he confessed his wife passed away recently and he felt suicidal living alone in his house.
Well, he got the help he needed and is doing fine now.

I realise depression has become far more common in our global world than any actual physical illness and sometimes it's so easy to miss all the signs that are staring right in front of us.

I liked the guts Christopher Reeve had when he said in an interview to Barbara Walters that he desperately wanted to end his life soon after becoming quadriplegic after his 1995 horseback riding accident.
He confessed it was his close friend Robin Williams who made him realise he would be okay.
"He made me laugh for the first time since my accident...when I heard myself laugh, I realised I can live too".
Wow. Robin Williams was perhaps the only mortal to make Superman laugh in such dire circumstances.
Sadly, no one was there to make him laugh when he needed one the most.
I only hope that the two good buddies are finally okay together, making each other laugh in harmony.

Looking back at the video clip I posted earlier about Jodi No 1, Season 6 damaging love proposal...
I hope that wasn't a TV stunt by Vijay tv to increase their TRP ratings.
If it was, it was a really sick joke.
In my eyes, the first half of the proposal scene was real and the second half was acting - just to save face for damage control done by the girl in the first half.
Her laughter when she said "sorry...sorry...it's only a joke" was fake or she must be a really horrible actress emoting laughter.
I think it was the fear of rejection after her honest confession that made her take back her words.

Afterall, the whole world knows the best kept secrets of love are hidden behind two simple words -
JUST KIDDING.

Dear Abby,

You told some woman whose husband had lost all interest in sex to send him to a doctor. Well, my husband lost all interest in sex and he is a doctor. Now what do I do?

Understanding Engineers #1

Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when
one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"

The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday,
minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike,
threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what
you want."

The first engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice: The
clothes probably wouldn't have fit you anyway."

To the optimist, the glass is half-full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Understanding Engineers #3

A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a
particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with
those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!" The
doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!"

The priest said, "Here comes the greens-keeper. Let's have a word with
him." He said, "Hello George, What's wrong with that group ahead of
us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"

The greens-keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind firemen.
They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so
we always let them play for free anytime!."

The group fell silent for a moment. The priest said, "That's so sad.
I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight." The doctor
said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague
and see if there's anything she can do for them."

The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

Understanding Engineers #4

What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers?

Mechanical engineers build weapons.
Civil engineers build targets.

Understanding Engineers #5

The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Understanding Engineers #6

Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don' t fix it.
Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Understanding Engineers #7

An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him
and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He
bent over, picked up the frog, and put it in his pocket.

The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn back into
a beautiful princess and stay with you for one week."

The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and
returned it to the pocket.

The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a
princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want."

Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back
into his pocket.

Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a
beautiful princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do
anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?"

The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a
girlfriend, but a talking frog - now that's cool."

Engineering

Two engineering students were standing at the base of a flagpole,
looking at its top.

A woman walked by and asked what they were doing.

We're supposed to find the height of this flagpole, but we don't have a ladder.

The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a couple of bolts,
and laid the pole down on the ground.

Then she took a tape measure from her pocketbook, took a measurement,
announced, "Twenty one feet, six inches," and walked away.

One student shook his head and laughed, "A lot of good that does us.
We ask for the height and she gives us the length!"

Both have since flunked out and are now serving in the U.S. Congress.

The kiss

She shivered,quivered and enquired
I cupped her face and gently touched her lips with mine
and drew back not knowing why
I then realised what the kiss meant even if it was just for once
and years flashed before my eyes and our lives
I kissed her again, not with my lips
but with my soul and she felt it
and she opened her eyes and smiled
It touched me,moved me and i have remained moved
and that moment has stayed with me
reminding me that a kiss is not just lust
or the wetness of the lips kissing
It is a moment when souls come the closest
and when time and bodies do not matter

Death of someone and i die a bit with every death

"It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things."

I have no clue as to what dying does to a person.but the death of another does strange and leaves one in a melancholic state of what if and what will.Unanswerable questions are torn from unknown parts of the soul and off we are on the road to answers.answers that might not satisfy everyones questions, when the questions themselves are of different shades.

I have seen members of my family die, close friends die by acts of suicide and a few have hit me me in the gut and left me reeling in guilt. But the death that most disturbed was when i heard michael jackson was no more.I felt something hurt in my chest and a hollow feeling gripped my stomach.I felt hollow and frozen.Emotions and thoughts of various shades raced and coursed through my mind and in the end although it was just a minute or so i felt tears pour down and i felt sad beyond sad and also ashamed at crying.Strange and unknown things happen at this time when you are in a state of despair and i have no idea why or what or if it is just a trick of the brain which is trying to cope with a overwhelming sadness that might lead to tragedy.i dont know if it is a built in safety mechanism like people who are about to die or come back from the dead say that they saw a light at the end of the tunnel.but when in a state of total despair, something strange happens akin to an outer body experience. You seem to or a part of you tends to separate and stand outside and look at you as you are naked in your emotions and grief. You stand lookng at you and you wonder and ask what is it you are crying for or simply stands and records everything.

Those are topics of deep madness and yet why we feel so much grief or why i felt so much sadness when jackson died and the same was felt when robin died.It struck me that although we are separate form others physically,we are or everything is a part of you.Experiences, memories, good times shared make you and are pieces of the puzzle that are a person.take even a bit away from a life and you are left feeling empty and lost.death of someone with whom you laughed, danced and cried surely makes an important, vital and huge part of ones being.Michael jacksons death left me empty and sad because growing up watching him dance, moonwalk and generally entertain me and everyone from 1984 to 2008 is a huge time spent, invested.forget the 21st century but from the album thriller to dangerous,oh my,oh my,yours truly danced to the grooves of the king of pop.i took up dancing and took a few of my friends on stage to dance because of michael.the very same way i laughed my guts out watching robin in mrs.doubtfire and cried with him in dead poets society and the bicentinnial man.I was moved beyond words by his scenes with matt damon in good will hunting and patch adams.

I realise now that even if we havent met a person, their death can move us and leave us as if we have lost someone close to our heart.yes,it is true for i realise that the memories that they have gone me have made me and shaped me and will remain a part of my soul.

"If you gave someone your heart and they died, did they take it with them? Did you spend the rest of forever with a hole inside you that couldn't be filled?"

You know, I felt a strong sense of loss and void when Vaishnavi died on April 17th 2006.
I felt exactly the same way as you have described above.

It felt like I had lost my own sister...a sister I never met but connected with.
I thought I was going through strange feelings and I was so scared to acknowledge them to anyone...
but strangely, even my parents felt the loss too, like it was a personal one.
It felt like they had lost their daughter.

Now how could an ordinary tv serial artiste evoke such strong feelings for a viewer?

I saw only three months of Muhurtham episodes before she died.
The day they replaced Vaishnavi with another actress to play her character Janani in Muhurtham, was the same day I stopped watching that serial avidly.

But hey, life goes on...tv serials go on too...

The only strange thing is everytime I see Dev Anand posing with a smile on facebook or acting/ dancing on tv...
for no reason, my calm soul suddenly scorches to rage and fury...
strong enough to burn his smiling image on screen to ashes.

So yes, I can completely relate to your words above.

Airline Safety

Occasionally, airline attendants make an effort to make the "in-flight safety lecture" and their other anouncements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane ..."

After landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride."

As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington National, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!"

After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced: "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted."

From a Southwest Airlines employee ... "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt, and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised.

In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face.

If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with two or more small children, decide now which one you love more.

Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, we'll but try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest Airlines."

"Your seat cushions can be used for flotation, and in the event of an emergency water landing, please take them with our compliments."

Once on a Southwest flight, the pilot said, "We've reached our cruising altitude now, and I'm turning off the seat belt sign. I'm switching to autopilot, too, so I can come back there and visit with all of you for the rest of the flight."

"Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the overhead area. Please place the bag over your own mouth and nose before assisting children or adults acting like children."

"As you exit the plane, make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."

"Last one off the plane must clean it."

And from the pilot during his welcome message: "We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry... Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight...!"

Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very hard landing in Salt Lake City: The flight attendant came on the intercom and said, "That was quite a bump and I know what ya'll are thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendants' fault...it was the asphalt!"

Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day. During the final approach the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant came on the PA and announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."

An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying XYZ airline." He said that in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, mind if I ask you a question?" "Why no Ma'am," said the pilot, "what is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land or were we shot down?"

After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the Flight Attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Capt. Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal."

Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go zipping through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at US Airways.
