CHAPTER 15

[ Past ]

Maahir was sitting in the pilot's common room making a weired face which was not very easy to deduct and so when Kuhu came inside, on seeing his face she called him and asked, "Hey weirdo whats up? Maahir looked at her and made a face and replied, "Yaar ye jo Bela hai na isne mujhe paagal bana kar raakha hua hai. Do you know what she did? Vo mujhe Kerala lekar gayi aur vo bhi kisiko bina bataye. Kuhu was confused and she asked, "Par tum Mumbai gaye the na? Maahir confusingly itched his head and replied, "Mumbai ka naam lekar ye ek din achaanak aadhi raat ko mere ghar par aayi aur mujhse kaha ke vo ghar se bhaag kar aayi hai aur vo bhi apne ma baap ko behosh karke aur mujhe boli ke mujhe uske saath uski private jet mein main uske saath ghumne Kerala chalu par mere naam par usne leave ka application daala hai vo bhi Mumbai ka taaki kisiko shaq na ho ke hum dono ek hi saath ek hi jagah par gaye hai aur apna leave application bhi usne dusre jagah ke naam par daala aur pura trip usne itne atrangi kaam kiye hai ke kya batau? Puchne par bolti hai ke ye uska adrenaline rush hai. Main sach mein na... kabhi kabhi sochta hu ke pata nehi maine usse kaise pyar kar liya yaar. Kuhu laughed and sat beside Maahir and replied, "Arey to jo soch samajh kar kiya jaata hai usey pyar thore hi karte hai? Pyar to bas ainvayi ho jaata hai na. Maahir made a face and said, "Meri mati maari gayi thi tabhi to ek paagal se pyar kar betha. Kuhu replied, "To ab kar to liya hai na... nehi to... ek to abhi bhi bethi hui hai bas tumhaare nazar utha kar dekhne ki der hai. Maahir understood whom Kuhu was referring to and so he said, "Please yaar... ab tum... you know na ke no matter what I have fallen in love with Bela aur is janam mein ye badal nehi sakta hai. Kuhu said, "To phir ye sab bekaar ki baate bolne ka to koi matlab hi nehi hai na. Ab pyar jab kar hi liya hai, aagey jab badh hi chuke ho to abhi kadam peeche lene ki bewakufi bilkul mat karna varna is chiriya ko koi aur ura le jaayega aur phir beta tum haath malte reh jaaoge. Maahir was so sngry listening to Kuhu that he said, "Tera to aaj flight hai na to tu ja flight mein khaamakha mein mera dimaag mat kharaab kar. Help to koi kar nehi sakti ho aur aakar yaha mera dimaag aur kharaab kar rahi ho. Kuhu chuckled and pulled Maahir's cheeks and replied, "You know Maahir tum jab aise shakal banate ho na to bohot cute lagte ho aur vaise bhi tumhaari bimaari lailaaj hai. I'm sorry iska ilaaj tumhe khudko hi karna parega. Saying she got up and before leaving said, "Main chalti hu and best of luck with your new adventure Maahir. She gave a mocking smile to Maahir and then left from there. Maahir too got up to catch his flight when he saw Anu on the way and he stopped her and seeing that Anu was surprised and said, "Arey Maahir tum kab aaye? Maine tumhe kal kitni baar cal kiya lekin tumne phone hi nehi uthaya. Maahir replied, "Arey yaar maine subhe dekha tumhaare itne saare calls the actually raat ko itna late aaya na ke thakaan se ekdam haalat kharaab thi aura ate hi bas laash ke tarah bistar par dher ho gaya. Anu laughed and replied, "Arey yaar don't worry! Achcha ye batao ke tumhaari trip kaisi thi aur maine tumse jo kaha tha tumne vo kiya? Maahir smiled and replied, "Oh God it was an amazing one and I really needed that break. Sach mein boreing si flights uraakar main apni patience ke dead end par pohoch gaya tha agar ye choti si trip nehi leta na to main paagal ho jaata aur rahi baat tumhaare gift ka to vo main kaise bhul sakta hu? After all you're my friend! Maahir took out a packet from his blazer's inside pocket and gave that to Anu and said, "Ye lo tumhaari amaanat! Anu was very happy to see it and while taking the packet said, "Agar tum bhul bhi jaate to main tumhaara dimaag nehi kharaab kar deti? Main tumhe chain se rehne hi nehi deti. Maahir agreed and replied, "Point taken! Anu put the packet inside her purse and replied, "Well! Main chalti hu aur let's have dinner tomorrow night at my house. Papa bhi puch rahe the tumhaare baare mein, bohot dino se tum ghar par nehi aaye. Maahir agreed to her proposal and then Anu left from there. Maahir was about to leave for his own flight when suddenly a hand blocked his way and he was surprised to find Bela standing in front of him. He was taken back at that sudden way of stopping his way by her and he looked at her with utter shock and Bela said, "Hullo Captain Sehgal! Maahir nodded his head in a confused state and replied, "Hi First Officer Sareen! Bela looked at the way as Anu disappeared and said, "Kya baat hai Captain aap ghumne mere saath gaye the aur aapko Anu ki farmaayisho ka bara khayaal tha. Aapne mere liye to koi gift nehi liya? Maahir, at one moment felt as if Bela was drunk as she was behaving out of her own character that day and replied, "Well aap to khud hi gayi thi mere saath aapke liye kya gift leta? Aapke paas to sab kuch hi hai. At that answer Bela was simply irritated and replied, "Ha to ye Anu bhi to ameer baap ki bigdi hui aulaad hai meri tarah to iske liye bhi to gift lekar aaye the. To maine kya galti kar di? Tum hi to mujhse pyar karne ka daava karte ho aur gift kisi aur ke liye utha kar le aate ho. Just wow! Maahir didn't expect that from Bela at all since she never reacted like that way before as that was not the first time Maahir had talked with Anu and seeing Bela's reaction, Maahir was very surprised and amused at the same time as he could feel the tint of jealousy inside her and decided to tease her and so he asked, "Well!! Are you jealous Ms. Sareen? Mujhe aisa kyu lag raha hai ke tum jealous ho rahi ho? Bela immediately composed herself and replied, "Main kyu jealous hongi? Na to main tumhaari biwi hu aur naahi girlfriend so jealous hone ka to sawaal hi paida nehi hota hai. Tum Anu ko kyu yaha par jitni larkiya kaam karti hai un sabko gift do mujhe isse kya? Vaise bhi mere paas kisi cheez ki koi kami nehi hai. Maahir agreed and in a very serious way nodded his head and replied, "Absolutely correct! Tumhaare paas to kisi cheez ki koi kami nehi hai aur naahi tum meri biwi ho aur naahi meri girlfriend so why shpuld you be jealous? Bela agreed and replied, "Exactly! Saying she was about to leave but Maahir grabbed her hand from the back and pulled her towards himself and held her hand firmly so that she could not free her hand. Unbeknownst to her, Bela was in fact way too much jealous as in their Kerala trip, Bela actually came to know about Maahir's real self and she had started liking him. When Maahir pulled Bela towards her, she was standing really close to him and she had a different sensation of shivering inside her which she never felt before but one thing she realized that she was not disliking that sensation. She could easily see that mischievious smile on his face and that playful teasing look in his eyes as he looked at her and said, "Par Ms. Sareen mujhe to jalne ki boo aa rahi hai aapke andar se. Bela didn't have the idea of what she should exactly answer and so she started stammering, "Mu... mujhe jalan nehi ho rahi hai. Agar tumhe aisa lag raha hai to tumhaari naak mein problem hai. Kisi achche se doctor se jaakar apna check up karwaao. Maahir replied, "Doctor to mere saamne khari hai par vo to mera ilaaj hi nehi karna chahti hai. Ek cheez to chahiye tha tumse, tumhaare dil mein thori si jagah par tum ho ki dena hi nehi chahti ho. Itna bhaao kya khaana? Dekho ab mujhse shaadi karne mein tumhe kitne saare faayde hai, tumhe ghar ka koi bhi kaam nehi karna parega mujhe to sab aata hai. This time Bela forcefully pushed him a bit and released herself from his grip and replied, "Pata hai tumhaari problem kya hai Mr. Maahir Sehgal? Tum bolte bohot zyaada ho lekin karne laayak himmat tumhaare andar hai hi nehi kyuki tum apni life mein koi daring kaam kabhi kar hi nehi sakte ho. Maahir leaned at the wall and asked, "Tum mujhe challenge kar rahi ho? Bela gave a wicked teasing smile and replied, "Isey agar tum challenge samajhna chahte ho to challenge hi sahi. Maahir asked, "Agar maine aisa kuch kar diya to mujhe kya milega? Bela, while leaving stopped for a moment and said, "Agar tumne aisa kuch kar diya to... mmm... She thought about it for a moment but didn't get what to say and instead Maahir replied, "Then tumhe mujhe vo dena hoga jo main chahunga and then no saying nehi'. Done? Bela agreed and replied, "Thik hai! Par tumhe chahiye kya? Maahir shook his shoulder and replied, "Vo main tabhi maang lunga. You don't worry! Bela too shook her shoulder and put the strand of her hair behind her ear with style blended with arrogance signifying of her silent accepting of the challenge and before leaving wished him luck for his bet and after she left, Maahir said, "Ms. Bela Sareen tumne aaj ek soye huye sher ko cheda hai. Now you'll see what Maahir Sehgal will do! Agar maine tumhaare hosh na uraaye to mera naam bhi Maahir Sehgal nehi aur chahe kitna bhi na na karo lekin banogi to tum Mrs. Maahir Sehgal hi. Just wait and watch! Saying he too let to catch his own flight. While Bela was alone inside the cockpit of her flight, a flight attendant came inside the cockpit and handed her over a gift wrapped packet and told her it was given by one of the staffs and asked it to be delivered to you. After the flight attendant left, Bela opened the packet and found a bright pink coloured scarf and remembered that it was the same scarf which she chose at one of the stores in Kerala but the storekeeper doesn't want to sell it as it was exclusively designed for someone else and was the only piece in the store sue to which she could not buy it even bargaining for a double price. She wondered how the scarf reached her and who might have send it and just then she found a card attached to the gift and in it was written

"Mujhe pata hai ke tum ye gift dekh kar kya soch rahi ho, zyaada socho mat vo tumpar suit nehi karta. Tum jaisi ho vaisi hi rehna, spontaneous aur bigdi hui. Agar tumne mujhe YES kaha na then I promise you tumhe apne aur mere ghar mein kabhi koi difference feel nehi hoga. Your every wish will always be my command!

On reading the message a smile appeared on Bela's face and for the first time ever, she blushed which was totally out of her character and even she felt so strange at her own behaviour. Just at that moment, a message popped on her phone which read

"Mujhe pata hai ke abhi tum blush kar rahi ho, I hope beautiful hi lag rahi hogi kyuki maine to dekha nehi hai bas imagine hi kar pa raha hu. Abhi zyaada mere baare mein mat socho aur apni flight par dhyaan do. Mere baare mein to tum zindagi bhar soch sakti ho.

Bela nodded her head and smiled and thought about Maahir's craziness and just at that moment, the door of the cockpit opened again and Bela put the gift packet inside her bag and concentrated on her job before the flight but even doing so she was continuously thinking about Maahir.

[ 1 Week Later ]

One night, Bela was reading magazine by lying down on her stomach on her bed. It was almost midnight and her parents were asleep in their room as Bela's father especially was a strict follower of schedule. Bela was busy surfing the book when she suddenly heard a knock on the door of her room's balcony. Bela was confused thinking who might have come at this time of the night and what the hell was the use of having a watchman if he couldn't guard the house. Bela was actually scared and looked around the house if she could find anything which would replace as a weapon. The door was continuously being knocked and Bela too at last found a quite big a vase and then slowly but carefully walked towards the door. By that time, Bela was scared to hell but she still didn't scream and finally she opened the door. The moment she opened it, the person who emerged in front of her was none other but Maahir himself and seeing him she was about to scream but Maahir covered her mouth and pushed her inside the room and then said, "I'll leave you but just promise you won't scream! Bela nodded her head in approval and Maahir released her. Bela took a deep breath to cool down her nerves and then asked, "What are you doing in my house at this time? Maahir casually sat on her bed and replied, "Arey honewaala jamai hu main is ghar ka, apne sasural bhi nehi aa sakta hu kya? By the way you forgot we had a challenge ke mujhe ek daring kaam karna parega uske baad main jo maangunga vo tum mujhe dogi. Bela was shocked to hell and asked, "Vo kabki baat thi Maahir? Main to vo baat bhul bhi chuki hu? God!! Maahir replied, "Well I didn't forget! Ek Punjabi sab kuch bhul sakta hai lekin di hui ya phir li hui zabaan kabhi nehi bhul sakta hai. Bela said, "Maahir mamma papa dusre kamre mein so rahe hai agar unko bhanak bhi lag gayi na to... mera to kuch nehi hoga par tumhaari naukri aur career dono khatam ho jaayenge. Maahir lied down on Bela's bed and replied, "Yaad hai tum bhi aadhi raat ko mere ghar mein aayi thi, to ab main aa gaya to what's the big deal? Bela replied, "Vo isliye kyuki tumhaare ghar mein risky kam hai kyuki tum akele rehte ho par main nehi. Mere ghar mein aise aana khatra zyaada hai. Maahir got up from the bed and slowly walked towards her and said, "Well to technically iska matlab ye hua ke maine bohot bara waala daring kaam kiya hai to iska matlab ye bhi hua hai ke technically main ye shart jeet chuka hu. He almost pinned Bela against the wall and asked, "Isn't it? Bela was feeling very uncomfortable while Maahir was scanning her up and down with his naughty mischievious looks and Bela asked, "What is that you want? Maahir replied, "To ab jab main shart jeet chuka hu to mujhe to return gift chahiye. Bela narrowed her brows and looked at him and he replied, "To main ye chahta hu ke tum mujhe ek kiss do. Bela almost screamed and asked, "Are you out of your mind? Maahir was confused and asked, "Kyu kya ho gaya? Bela replied, "Main tumhe kabhi kiss nehi karungi. Meri kiss itni sasti nehi hai. Maahir said, "Par main to shart jeet chuka hu isliye tumhe to dena hi parega. After all you promised me! Bela pushed him and replied, "Bas ek awaaz dungi na to ye jo tumhaara Romeopana hai na sab choo ho jaayega. So apni salaamati chahte ho to leave right now! Maahir thought for a moment and replied, "Mmm... tum kyu itna taklif kar rahi ho, main hu na main khud hi jaakar apne honewaale saas sasur se peripena karke aata hu. Saying he just gave a step towards the door when Bela stopped him again and almost in a pleading tone said, "Please Maahir jaao abhi yaha se! Maahir was very amused seeing Bela in that situation and mocked her, "Kya baat hai Ms Sareen ko please kehna aata hai? Mujhe to laga ke tumhe to sirf order dena aata hai. But vo kya hai na main bhi bohot dheet hu ya to tum mujhe kiss dogi ya phir main chala bahaar aur vaise bhi meri saas to already mujhe bohot pasand karti hai aur jab saas jeb mein ho na to sasur ko botal mein utaarne mein zyaada time nehi lagta hai. Ab sab kuch tumhaare haath mein hai, dono to nehi ho sakte hai, dono mein se ek to tumhe manna hi parega. Bela understood that she was actually standing at the backfoot and Maahir had literally got hold of her and she had no other option left but to agree to Maahir's one of the conditions and so she closed her eyes and said, "Ok do it! Maahir had a wicked smile in his face and he came closer to her. He just tilted his head a bit and moved his face closer to Bela's. Both of them were so close to each other that Bela could easily feel Maahir's warm breath on her face and could also feel that her whole body was shaking. When Maahir's lips were too close to Bela that a move of a nanomillimeter would touch her lips which he always wanted to do but he didn't and instead after looking at her face for a second, he kissed on her cheek instead which made Bela startle a bit and Bela opened her eyes as Maahir moved apart from her and looked at him with confused eyes. He could easily read Bela's expression and he said, "Tumhe kya laga that I'm gonna kiss you without your consent? Hell no!! Main aisa aadmi nehi hu Bela. Main to bas tumhe ched raha tha bas ye dikhaane ke liye kabhi kabhi tum bhi aise hi behave karti ho aur dusro ko bhi aisa karna aata hai. But to tell you the truth, I love that Bela not the scared little girl standing in front of me right now. Aaj main tumse promise karta hu ke main tumhe tabtak bother nehi karunga jabtak tum... you know... Saying he went out of her room and left through the way he came to her house leaving Bela all confused and alone.

[ Few Days Later ]

"Are you by any means in love with my brother?, That sudden question coming from Kuhu made Bela spill her coffee on her shirt. Kuhu proposed Bela for having a cup of coffee with her before a flight which included both of them and in the restaurant itself, Bela gave that reaction to Kuhu's question as she least expected that one to come from her. But that question was very obvious from Kuhu as Bela was really behaving in a strange way after that night in her house which actually changed Bela a lot. After that night, as promised, Maahir didn't bother Bela which actually disturbed her a lot as she didn't expect that Maahir could do something like that. The first shock was when he actually came to her house at night and the next shock when Maahir actually started avoiding Bela for real and those two shocks were so severe that Bela started behaving differently whenever she was around him and the most torturous thing for her was whenever she finds Maahir with Anu. She hated Anu so much that she deliberately created trouble for Anu like spilling coffee over her and another time just to stop her from going in into the same flight with Maahir, she intentionally locked her up in the washroom for which she had to miss the flight. All these things were neither overlooked by Maahir nor by Kuhu, but Maahir was somewhat enjoying that behavioural change of Bela but Kuhu thought to talk to her directly in that matter and that was the reason she took her to the restaurant to sort the matter face to face so when Kuhu asked that question, Bela asked back, "Kya bol rahi ho tum? Kuhu said, "Tum jaisi harkate kar rahi ho na Bela usse ek baat to saaf hai that you are clearly in love with Maahir. Ab agar tum is baat ko accept nehi karna chahti ho to ye alag baat hai. Vaise bhi us raat ke baad se tumhaari ye jo harkate ho rahi hai, aaj mujhe nazar aa raha hai kal sabke nazar mein aane mein der nehi lagegi. Bela was taken back when Kuhu mentioned about that night' and she looked boggled and seeing that expression, Kuhu correctly deduced and replied, "Well main aur Maahir ek dusre se kabhi kuch nehi chupaate hai. So agar shaadi ke baad literally tum dono ke beech mein kuch bhi... you know what I mean to vo bhi mujhe pata lag jaayega. Bela suddenly grabbed Kuhu's hands and said, "Do you really think Iam in love with Maahir? No I'm really confused! Mere saath aisa pehle kabhi hua nehi hai. Please help me out! Kuhu smiled and put her cup of coffee back into the table and asked, "To phir mere ek sawaal ka jawaab do, kya usko aur Anu ko ek saath dekh kar tumhe gussa aata hai? Aur jab usdin Maahir tumhe kiss karne waala tha to tumhe kaisa feel hua tha? Bela immediately punched on the table and replied, "Mera khoon ubalne lagta hai aur agar faansi chadne ka dar nehi hota to main kabka uska murder kar chuki hoti. She then suddenly became quiet and slowly answered, "Usdin na jab Maahir mujhe kiss karne waala tha mere pet mein gudgudi ho rahi thi aur mere per sunn ho gaye the. Kuhu nodded her head and replied, "Congratulations you're in love with Maahir and you need to tell him as soon as possible varna you know ye jo mard hote hai na inka mann badalte der nehi lagti hai. Ab dekho Anu itne saalo se peeche pari hai to... you know... kuch bhi ho sakta hai. Mardo ka lagaam kaskar rakhna chahiye. Bela gave a confused look to Kuhu and said, "But maine aisa pehle kabhi kiya nehi hai pehle aur... mujhe bohot ajeeb bhi lag raha hai. Kuhu took a deep breath and replied, "Well Bela I love you' hum life mein baar baar bolte bhi nehi hai. Par phir bhi agar tumhe bolne mein taklif ho rahi hai to best tareeka hai mere paas. Bela became very interested and said, "Well I'm all ears! Kuhu said, "Agar sahi mein koi solution na miley aur confusion hoe k bottle vodka ya whiskey dono kamaal ka kaam karte hai kyuki kehte hai jab vilaaiti andar jaati hai to desi bahaar nikalta hai aur tum to aready do baar Maahir ko bowled out kar chuki ho so ek baar phir se karlo. Bela thought about it and said, "You're right that's the best way! Kuhu gave a tap on the table and in a very enthusiastic manner replied, "Now go get him tigress! Bela had a smile on her face and then both of them left from there.

The same night, Bela stood in front of Maahir's door with one bottle of vodka in her hand and she knocked at the door quite soundfully. At that time, Maahir was at the washroom so due to that hard hitting knocking sound at the door, all his neighbours on the same floor opened their doors. When Maahir came out finally to open the door, the scene which unfolded in front of his eyes could make any weak hearted person scream out of fear. He found that Bela was standing with her bottle of vodka in a position where she was about to hit a lady with it and at the nick of the time, Maahir successfully was able to stop Bela from hitting the lady and grabbed her by the waist and took the bottle away from her waist. On checking the empty bottle, Maahir understood that Bela was complete drunk and he chanted the name of God as a complete drunk Bela means a complete package of trouble for Maahir. But, Bela, on the other hand was shouting, "Ae buddhi aurat tu mujhpar chilla rahi hai? Mujhpar aajtak mere papa ne bhi nehi chillaya. How dare you? Maahir almost scolded Bela and said, "Bela what the hell are you doing? Paagal ho gayi ho kya? Chalo andar! Bela turned towards Maahir and then started crying loudly just like a baby and hanged herself on his body by tightly hugging him by his shoulder just like a small baby who finds back her parents after a long time on getting lost in the crowd. Bela cried loudly like a toddler and said, "Maahir ye log mujhe daat rahe hai dekho na. Maine to inme se kisiko bhi tang nehi kiya aur ye auntie mujhpar shout kiye ja rahi hai, mujhe paagal bol rahi hai. Main to tumse milne aayi thi. Maahir was not that much embarrassed when he met Bela for the first time like the way he was feeling embarrassed that night but that night, when Bela hanged herself over him, he felt as if someone has poured molten lava over him and the most problematic thing was that Bela was not in that condition where he could scold her and so he apologized to the others and then brought her inside. After bringing her inside, he tried to make her sit on the couch but she didn't and at one point of time, Maahir had to sit and thus making Bela automatically sit on his lap facing him. In a very loving tone, Maahir asked, "Bela abhi to bohot raat ho gayi to tum yaha kaise aa gayi? Aur tumne phir se pee hui hai? Bela broke the hug and wiped her tears and replied, "Vo mujhe na tumhe I Love You' bolna tha par na maine pehle kabhi kisiko bola nehi to Kuhu ne kaha ke vodka ya whiskey pee lene se bolne mein asaani hoti hai. Main tumhe yaha par I Love You' bolne hi aayi hu lekin mere ek question ka jawaab do tum us chipkali Anu ke saath itna kyu ghumte ho? Tumhe pata hai mujhe us chipkali ki shakal dekhne bhar se hi kitna gussa aata hai? Kyu jaate ho baar baar uske paas? She pouted so cutely that Maahir just could not stop adoreing her and replied, "Par Anu to meri friend hai na to ek friend ke saath to ghum hi sakta hu aur phir tumhe bhi to mera tumhaare paas aana achcha nehi lagta hai to main kya karu batao? Ab vo meri dost hai bilkul Kuhu ki tarah to hume apne friends ke saath bhi to time spend karna chahiye na.
