She was now at crossroads. She had realized that Raj was making a huge effort to change. He had at long last understood that that British Col had just been using him. He had changed his stance. He was trying hard to somehow reach out to her but she did not still find it in her to reciprocate.

She sighed and turned to look out of the window. It was late at night and the stars were out in the sky. She could get the sweet fragrance of the nocturnal flowers. She inhaled deeply. She tried to make her decision. Should she or shouldn't she forgive him?

When she felt she should forgive him, she remembered all the atrocities she had suffered at the hands of her first husband. That revolting touch, that show of money, the giddy sense of power that his family wielded - all came back like waves wanting to drown her. Bile rose in her throat. How frightened she had been when Prakash tried to rape her. She knew Raj alone wasn't to be blamed for her misfortune. But he had a large hand in it. And then Sohan tauji, why did he have to go after him like that? She sorely missed her uncle. A tear slipped out of her eye.

When she thought she shouldn't forgive him, she felt small. Her anger had dissipated and she was looking at Raj differently. Or at least she was trying to. She was a simple girl. She didn't know what it was like to be loved. She knew she had to be grateful to anyone who showed kindness to her. That was the reason why she wasn't just grateful to buaji and chaiji but she genuinely loved them. They were kind and understanding despite knowing her reason for marrying Raj. She always stood by her beliefs, supported the weaker person and was fair. She was also forgiving. Raj had come into her life like a hurricane and in his wake he had caused so much devastation. She just couldn't stand his devious and underhand tactics. But he was changing. He had rescued her last week and without thinking had put his life in danger for her. She acknowledged that. She also acknowledged that now she did not fear that he would harm her. When she had seen his prone body lying still and inert in the grounds, she had been aghast. He had thrown her to one side during the police firing and had taken the blows himself. She thought her heart had stopped beating. Was he dead? She had been horrified. It was then that she knew she couldn't live a life without her husband in it. And she was equally mortified at the thought.

She had felt the attraction for him when she had laid eyes on him long ago at their first meeting. He was well dressed, polished and educated. In comparison, she was just a village girl, gawky and gauche. But she recognized the stirrings in his eyes. Weren't they both very good at cloaking their feelings?

Raj entered the room and saw her shadowy figure at the window. He just needed to see her once more before turning in for the night. He needed her. He wanted her in his life. He needed her forgiveness. Unless she did that, he would never be able to forgive himself either. She was the only reason he had discarded his earlier notions about the KKs. He was the devil but with her around, he would change if only to keep her happy. He couldn't undo the wrong he had done to her but he could check himself in future. Expecting her to love him was a tall order. For now, he just wanted her forgiveness.

She turned away from the window and saw him silently watching her. He saw her turn. He swallowed the painful lump in his throat. There were tears in her eyes. There were tears in his heart. There was remorse in his eyes and the entreaty to be accepted. There was trepidation in her eyes and the need to erase all doubts.

They looked silently at each other, both wondering ''''''..

Just awesome. 👏
OK, here I go with my set of qns...
1) How much should one have in common with one's partner?
2) Is caring the same as love?
3) Are men and women really too different to get along?
4) Why do we like emotionally vulnerable men and determined, independent women? ( Is it some kind of level state we try to achieve? )
5) How many colors exist in the world?
😊

I really can't say. But I guess when he starts showing repentance and gives up his devious ways. I don't mind if he's devious with the Brits. But the yes-man targets my kudi instead. 🤢

OK, here I go with my set of qns...
1) How much should one have in common with one's partner?
At least 50%
2) Is caring the same as love?
Care can be equated to concern so I dont think its the same.
3) Are men and women really too different to get along?
Not too different. Not at all. But certain perpectives are definitely different
4) Why do we like emotionally vulnerable men and determined, independent women? ( Is it some kind of level state we try to achieve? )
Men are seen as being stoic and controlled, hence vulnerablity is desired in them. On the other hand, women tend to be a bit reliant, malleable and timid by nature, hence the determined independent type are admired.
5) How many colors exist in the world?
Many of them but when all colours mix together, they form the colour white..... the colour of peace and purity.
😊
I hope that satisfies you? 😲
