Reading your post I had this thought, about Shilpa Aunty - the wonderful parent...

She is a single mother, they do not have a financially secure life, they are dependent on her job. In effect, she is a part of the rat race for survival.

Yet, she does not believe that her son has to be a part of the rat race, She doesnt believe that he has to be so competitive that he forgets to show respect for his competitors. Infact, she wants him to look beyond the competition. She wants him to discover the joys of a normal living where he is not a horse with his blinkers on. She wants him to be a good human being first.
This is why she pursuaded him to be a part of the dance/drama or even attend parties. To forgive Nupur easily. That he was able to wish Nupur luck even when she had challenged him, that is the success of Shilpa Aunty the parent :)

I loved your take on this, and in turn made in think too...

You know the saying behind every great man is a great woman. I truly believe that in the majority of cases that woman is a mother. One of my favourite aspects of Asian cultures is their impressive respect of elders. They are many examples were famous and renowned figures are given titles of 'son of' or 'daughter of'. I love how in the Quran, Esa is honoured by nearly always be referred to as 'son of Maryam'; that one of his honours was that he was the son of a great woman. One of my favourites 'mother' Teresa. (Please feel free to add other examples from other cultures too, to expand my knowledge and database; for how else am I to ward off an existential crisis?) Can anyone name other great mother/parental whether fictional or non fictional role models. There is Debo's mum and of course all your mothers too.😳

Unfortunately there is a modern trend to disregard the wisdom of the past, tainting it all from the imperfections therein, whereby we throw out the baby with the bathwater.

For me Shilpa Aunty encapsulated a perfect blend of past wisdom and modern sensibilities of a single mother. She is my role model.

I asked Nandita "If the human heart is capable of imagining such a character, then it is also possible for it to become such a character?"

She replied the most wonderfully perfect answer which I would like to post here (although I should mention we were talking about Mayank, however the answer is quite universal)

it sure is possible....but not easy one .... it takes too many restriction of self and limitations too...tagged with it principles one lives for and yearning to soar high but still be rooted .......... all this goes in the basic foundation of such an character...
but in this super fast and insensitive age hardly anyone takes this long route of self making... they rather choose the easy way out... cool is what they want to be not an idealist...

Sabah,

How can I say how much I love thee. I am literally head over heels in love with your post. i apologize for the delay. I was busy yesterday so could not reply. I am dil se sorry. Now you have to bear with me and read a post longer than yours lol.😆 I have to reply to not one but two extremely beautiful & heart-touching posts. a thread dedicated to shilpa sharma was long overdue I guess. She is the best & the perfect single mom ever. I remember way back in 2008 when I was first saw I was literally dumbfounded.😕 Shilpa sharma is a kick-ass mom period. i really did not expect the reserved mayank to have such a outgoing & free spirited mom😲😲. I did see many teen shows but I swear I never saw a cool mom like shilpa sharma. The person who penned her down really needs a standing ovation.👏 She is everything a good parent is--- parent teacher guide mentor friend and very affectionate. She was one of the reasons that had me worship mjht where other teen shows have parents as BG artists who never actually have a proper interaction with their kids. Mjht was actually showing a perfectly healthy interaction in the most beautiful way. Case in point: she was a single mom. I was really impressed that instead of wallowing in self pity or clinging to her son for emotional support (as is the case with some movies I watched) she was his only friend with whom he shares everything tries to lighten him up & tries to bring joy in his life ---the holi epi shilpa aunty who puts gulal on mayank. Now impressed is an understatement I used to sit infront of tv in rapt attention afraid I might miss those teeny weeny heart warming scenes. I never thought I will write about this all thanks to you sabah 🤗

Now little mayu in a school uniform? That has to be cuteness personified. I can totally imagine shilpa aunty holding mayank's hand & crossing the road to drop him at school. And in the evening mayank will be talking about how he answered every question in the mathematics class. 🤣🤣''.that is quite a wonderful thought sabah 🤗

I was really disappointed to see that same show later showed parents as some sort of tyrants. Like bui hell bent on getting them married or bauji who gets his daughter married & disowns her & adhiraj's dad I never saw anyone as uncivilized as him. Never mind.

Now first step of parenting: I had a big smile on my face after watching video thanks for that. I fell for mayank on day-1. I was sick of mr.popular guy heroes who were captain of football team & had the prettiest girl in school for gf. But mayank he is a focused academic who could not care less for girls. he is sensible- scorns the whole ragging plan & helpful ' helps the charming & adorable nupur. He is a killer combo of looks brains attitude compassion wit & his famous smile. But the mayank-mom scene I went all awwwww & fell totally in love & never looked back. He is strong on the inside as well as outside but has an emotional side he opens up to the only person in his life his mom & baalon to mat chuuho I fell off my chair watching it. The mayank sharma does care about his looks. I never thought that 'he is so caught up in his own world but it was really nice to see him pay attention to it. He is a nerd but not a geek. Maybe that explains his trendy tees and cool bag. I so want to see him in that. and shilpa aunty when she says main check karne avungi. I can so relate to that in school during exams I used to burn midnight oil for cramming & my mom she would wake up every hour and give me ultimatums to sleep. I never respected any character as much as I respect her.

Now step 2:

I totally loved this scene. She corrects his mistake but does it in such a sweet charming way that mayank was too distracted to even retort baalon ko mat chuao. She is sensible friendly and above all the sweetest mom.& mayank with a stern look asks her to eat & she makes a baby face eating it. Mayank is very strict when it comes to breakfast you see lol. 😆 No other mom-son duo is half as fun. ok did you notice the smug look on mayank's face when shilpa aunty calls him perfectionist. I don't know if I am supposed to call him haughty or something but I found him totally charming. & yes she feeds him orange like she is doing that for years. The credit for the success & popularity of mayank-maa scenes goes for arjun-vaishnavi they have such crackling chemistry. No one wants to believe they are not real life mom-son. And shilpa aunty ki mehnat kaam aayi. We got to see hilarious & romantic MN salsa practice & *ahem* their date-but not date on beach.🤣

Now in the second video the way mayank hits nupur's head with papers & walks away then turns back and gives his million dollar smile.😍😍 ok sorry for going off topic I was a mayank fanatic then. And nupur her expressions were amazing she is like mayank ki koi chal hai. Gosh who will not love this crazy girl.😆 But what I loved most about the scene was shilpa aunty knew when to be a friend & when to be a parent. parents-kids should have a friendly relationship but there comes a situation where we need a parent to guide not a friend to support & she knew that very well. Just as You said sabah. There is nothing new I can add. I agree and applaud each & every line of the post.👏👏 it extremely well written and a pleasure to read & videos add the extra beauty to it. Thanks for that too. thanks for the pm. I will be waiting for you to update the thread. And I hope my fav scene in exam track that I mentioned is also included.😉 Take care.

God bless you

Teju

p.s. I hope we get some new scenes of shilpa aunty too. I am quite sure we will go crazy about them & turn this thread into celebration thread. But she vanished and I get scared wondering if we will never see her again. They say all good things come to an end but I pray the end is not here.

The creators created two well rounded characters who epitomized the kind of people I would love to find in today's society, those who would pull it out of its current nosedive.
His goal and focus in life, made him withdraw into a shell..........but his mother made sure that he moves on in life, live it to fullest.............she is happy when her son takes a girl to beach, participates in talent parade..................its not only academics, she wants an all round growth in her son.................... and thats what makes Mayank such a all-rounder.....................She knows that she raised a gentleman and not a Lothario. That is why girls feel safe around him and men on edge! To be in her company is to know that life is not only duty but a wonderful and verdant beauty.
Hats off to her..............she is indeed a guide to parenting.........!!!A manual which is both concise, funny and beautiful!
Hope we get to see some more of her and see how she deals with her married son and his wife.................😒 There is still time, for at this juncture I fear only Shilpa Aunty can save both Mayank and Nupur.

sabah.🤗.thanks a lot for yet another lovely post of urs!!!!! was waiting for it.......

Okk.one thing i love abt shilpa aunty & mayank's relation is that the ulta pulta thing between them.sometime u forgot while watching them that who is the parent here....u said it na that mayank made mama's boy a tag of pride.but i always love his other side too.& that is when he become the parent for her mom...like the bread scene.i love the way shipa aunty was acting like a kid & mayank ordering her to eat...pouring juice for her.....u c ppl always think that when they will grow up & start earning.they will look after their parents...but i disagree.u don't need money always .Parents r special & they deserve to be taken care of.too ,it shouldn't always be the other way& this kind of small gesture by mayank towards his mom really told us how can u show u care for them too.Ask any parent, the worth of a smiling child, a hug, a phone call imbued with sincere concern when compared with food in their stomach and amenities of life. Show your parents gratitude, today, through all the means you posses.
There is no such hungama over "social msg" back the in mjht, but mayank & his mom's relation i feel convey the actual social msg that time in a very realistic way .....So many of were truly touched by Shilpa Aunty and Mayank's role, deeply to the core, this is no small feat. If you inspire just one person to betterment, you have affected countless lives.

Okk.back to ur topic.....u r right the transition from a kid to a mom.happen in ablink ...u never notice it coz shilpa aunty's friendly tone never changed.she just being her casual self.& just give the real life example of bread to his son.& mayank got the lesson he need. Thats why ppl say a mother is the best teacher.......& shilpa aunty proved it very well .The best lessons in life come free of charge and are priceless.

Another thing i love that she knows her son too well..& thats why she immediately understood what must be nupur going through to cope up with him..& instead of supporting her own son.she supported her....& even though she doesn't know her...she recognized the fact that Nupur must be a very special & talented person.thats what i call farsightedness..of a mom. This is where Mayank get his adherence to honesty. Be on the side of truth even if it against yourself. That is why he was so honest and sincere in his apology to Nupur on their first Holi.

So, Shilpa aunty is like a perfect parent.whenever mayank needed her .she is there for him.& she is there for him.even before mayank feel the need ...& that is what made her a very special mom.
thanks again sabah!!!!!!!! waiting for the third step eagerly.......😃I get the hint!😉

A truly magnificent role model in what seems like an era! i really did not expect the reserved mayank to have such a outgoing & free spirited mom😲😲. The creators kept this whole other side to Mayank a wonderful surprise for us. Not only did Shilpa Aunty's role add the finishing touches to Mayank's character but as in real life like so many of us, give us a persona that he kept only for his loved ones.

I did see many teen shows but I swear I never saw a cool mom like shilpa sharma. The person who penned her down really needs a standing ovation.👏 I wholeheartedly second that! As well as a mention for Arjun and Vaishnavi, I could not see anyone else playing their roles to this level of perfection and that chemistry was just dazzling!

She is everything a good parent is--- parent teacher guide mentor friend and very affectionate. She was one of the reasons that had me worship mjht where other teen shows have parents as BG artists who never actually have a proper interaction with their kids. I was really impressed that instead of wallowing in self pity or clinging to her son for emotional support (as is the case with some movies I watched)They never talk about their past, there is no need to for despite those hardships or maybe the result of them, there is this unbreakable, strong, trusting and loving bond which contains so much beauty I could stare, ponder and wonder at it all day long (and even in my dreams)

she was his only friend with whom he shares everything tries to lighten him up & tries to bring joy in his life ---the holi epi shilpa aunty who puts gulal on mayank. Now impressed is an understatement I used to sit infront of tv in rapt attention afraid I might miss those teeny weeny heart warming scenes. There are so many blink and you will miss it moments, I find new delights each time I watch it. Like you, I end up very close to the tv screen, suffering the radiation of the Tv set for the radiation of that beauty that is infused in all Shilpa Aunty moments! I never thought I will write about this all thanks to you sabah 🤗No, it is my honour, thank you! All credit to the wonderment that even discussing Shilpa Aunty invokes.

Now little mayu in a school uniform? That has to be cuteness personified. I can totally imagine shilpa aunty holding mayank's hand & crossing the road to drop him at school. And in the evening mayank will be talking about how he answered every question in the mathematics class. 🤣🤣''.that is quite a wonderful thought sabah 🤗Awww!!! I have the biggest grin across my face!!! Thank you for that image! 😆😆😆 Can I entice you to pen some ff?

I was really disappointed to see that same show later showed parents as some sort of tyrants. Like bui hell bent on getting them married or bauji who gets his daughter married & disowns her & adhiraj's dad I never saw anyone as uncivilized as him. Never mind. They had such potential with the first reincarnation of Bauji. The one they left behind in Morena. He could have been the male version of Shilpa Aunty.

Now first step of parenting: I had a big smile on my face after watching video thanks for that. I fell for mayank on day-1. I was sick of mr.popular guy heroes who were captain of football team & had the prettiest girl in school for gf. Tell me about it. What is up with the sudden popularity of playboys and playgirls. Personally I find it all repugnant.

But mayank he is a focused academic who could not care less for girls. he is sensible- scorns the whole ragging plan & helpful ' helps the charming & adorable nupur. He is a killer combo of looks brains attitude compassion wit & his famous smile. To quote, paraphrase Lisa Simpson, "He's like a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a black vest."

But the mayank-mom scene I went all awwwww & fell totally in love & never looked back. He is strong on the inside as well as outside but has an emotional side he opens up to the only person in his life his mom & baalon to mat chuuho I fell off my chair watching it. I can so relate to that in school during exams I used to burn midnight oil for cramming & my mom she would wake up every hour and give me ultimatums to sleep. awww, hats off to your mom, she nurtured such a genuine and honourable girl like you!

How Mayank doesn't give in at her endearing face, is beyond me. She looked so cute.. ...for a stunning beauty that she is. That is another thing. Shilpa Aunty, in her simple clothes and simple ways is the most exceptionally beautiful incarnation even first thing in the morning. WOW!

Their combined gracefulness is not unlike Olympic ice skaters. No one wants to believe they are not real life mom-son. And shilpa aunty ki mehnat kaam aayi. We got to see hilarious & romantic MN salsa practice & *ahem* their date-but not date on beach.🤣

Hey Sabah,
I love that quote man. I agree about the mischievous side, everyone has it in them, some explore it and some don't. I agree with all the points esp about M he was never arrogant, but definitely confident in his abilities and yet humble.
But my analysis of this aspect would be incomplete if i don't point out a side of M which made him overconfident, yet he didn't fall, not all people who are overconfident fail but he had become overconfident, I find this quality of Mayank much more endearing indeed😆, it definitely is what made him human and later on this confidence of M was shaken by N esp after coming up so close to him in the exams, he grew and understood N and in the process even himself better.
As he said in that Chunky Mishra's house that he has at last found someone of his level.
About Haya. I think the person with the most haya in her own way is N. You may disagree, but remember when she answered correctly like some hard hindi question, she was all bashful. Only to M and in front of him she acted all confident because she didn't want to disclose any weaknesses to him, why should we when we have been accused and insulted so much by that other person. She is the most humble one, but only acts all confident about certain matters as a cover and which we all in one way or the other do. All these qualities is what made N so special to me, they could have explored everything ahead so much but they didn't.
Sowie sabah i always tend to sway away.😭

Butterfly,

I really loved your take on Mayank's overconfidence. True. It was this overconfidence, that led him to stay aloof from everyone. " In any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself." For me there no greater undertaking than the development of the self. Do you remember my post on cocoons and butterflies. I couldn't work out the precise root of his aloofness. I think you summed it perfectly. Overconfidence. His humility made it fall short of deluded arrogance - the one trait I find hard tolerating in others.

Nupur's haya is of course apparent too. However it is a VERY RARE quality to find in a man, so for me all other character's Haya just paled in comparison. Like when a comet glides through the vast sky, even the brightest, our fondest star diminishes until the comet passes by. Everything is relative. Even Mayank's beauty pales in front of his mum's.

Sway away!

Hey Sabah I remember that beautiful story of a butterfly and cocoons and the connection and spirit. I agree it is hard to find it in men, i guess everyone has it, regardless of gender, but men think its not masculine to allow it to come out, thus they suppress it but for mayank that was what made him him.
He never had to suppress it, as he never opened up to anyone except his mum and thus he never really felt too shy about it, but then like all boys he did and would try and change the topic hehe.
i do tend to sway away all the time sabah.

Butterfly

In my entire life I have met only one man with haya, (not including the two fictional favourites of Darcy and Mayank) I agree with you, it has no gender. Haya is as strong and as beautiful as light.

Do you remember that scene, in the jungle, when he say 'ever if you were the last girl...' as he ends that line, you can see the embarrassment at himself for mentioning such a topic. Ending with that awkward 'whatever!' Arjun exudes those delicate nuances impeccably.

When you sway, it is like the swaying of the yellow blossom Of willow trees!
