This has made it sooo much more clear, thanks guys 😊

I have read the Gita, but that was a few years ago, I want to read it again, but after my exams....

I have 2 more questions:

Is Ishta Dev/Devi similar to Kuldevi?

and....

Also, is it possible that at different times (periods of weeks or even one week) you can concentrate on being a Bhakt of like one God-swaroop e.g. Shivji and then the next time period (e.g. 2 weeks later) be concentrating on another God-swaroop e.g. Mata Rani and then just keep "hopping" between all these swaroops? Is there a name for that?

Kuldevi is the presiding deity of a family ...that does not mean that any family member cannot have different 'Ishta' ..it totally depend on his/her liking... one's Kuldevi or Kuldevtaa may or may not be one's 'Ishta' ..It's not mandatory ..
I don't know about this "hopping" ..one can worship any image of his liking other than his/her 'Ishta' knowing that his Ishta has just taken the anther form .
one has special adoration for one's own 'Ishta' .it's advisable to meditate on a chosen deity/form/image u like most ..If u keep changing then the effect of meditation will be less fruitful

Thanks for the info.

If you didn't know, then I was talking about myself with the "hopping"..... I just find it hard to stick to one deity.....

All I know is I always wanted to grow up in a gurukul and be like a Sadhu person...... do any of you guys feel you ever wanted to grow up in a traditional gurukul? Like, since I'm a guy, I wanted to learn how to handle weapons and all the scriptures as well as a little bit of dance - I love to dance, but I don't know how to properly!

This sort of clears up what I was confused about. But isn't this what Hinduism generally says?

Parabrahm is the one and only true God, all other gods are Parabrahm's avatars, which is why whenever you watch a religious program from the beginning then they say that that God is Parabrahm, but Parabrahm is like indescribable and without attributes if you get what I mean. E.g. Ramayan says Vishnu is Parabrahm as he made the universe and all other gods, whereas Shiv Puran says it is Shiv and Devi Mahatmya says its Devi/Durga/Mataji.....

All avatars just fill a space almost. So if I wanted it to rain, then I would pray to the rain god (Indra or Varun, not sure exactly which). If I want it to be sunny, then I would pray to Surya Dev. If I'm stuck in a problem, I'd pray to Vighnaharta - Ganesh....... But all gods converge into One God - Parabrahm?

Is this what your trying to say?

From what I understand, God is a force which is almost like light. Its your faith which gives them the shape. People who have faith in Shiv feel Shiv is the one who is the creator and so on. God is nothing but a manifestation of faith. When you need Shakti then your faith manifests a goddess of power, when you need something done, then its Ganesh. Like they say sakar and nirakar. Its the faith that gives akar to the God.
I would even go to the extent of saying God and religion are completely different. God is a spirit who has no religion. I dont think Allah, Christ and Mata rani are three seperate beings ..they are actually one supreme power which runs this world...we have named God..he is nothing but the power that manifests when we have faith... I dont know if this makes sense

As far as "hopping" is concerned, why should that be a problem. You only start praying to a God when you something in you vibrates to that energy. To give you an example: You know that white light is composed of seven colors, when these seven colors come together in a certain frequency then you see the white light..however when this white light passes through a prism or a rain drop it breaks into seven colors. There are certain times we like the color red, at times we like the color blue and sometimes we love white. This is because we vibrate to different colors at different times. White gives us peace, red gives us energy and so on. Similarly is the case with Gods. Though all Gods are one, there are times we need a particular aspect of that energy which is manifested with our faith. For example people who want shakti, energy like worshipping mata rani, people who want moksh like to worship vishnu and so on. Its actually free will. No God will get angry at worshipping the other God. I dont think Gods play politics..Even in the serial, Gods are just trying to test all aspects of Vaishnavi through Parikshas since she has some heavy work laid down for her (fightin the evil) so they are just working to strengthen her. Universe, God, Supreme power is our friend, nothiing will happen thats not good for us...its something like a small child does not like to take a bitter medicine and thinks his mother is bad since she is forcing him to take it..However the mother knows that this bitter medicine will prevent future problems. So God knows what we dont..all we need to do is have faith...

Too much sermon isnt it!!! overdose

Thanks for that explanation! 😃

And no its not too much sermon at all, in fact the more the better. Really!

There is one thing that Hinduism does a lot which takes priority (basically is more advertised and attractive) thats stories. Nobody cares about the morals at the end of it, its more of oh this God killed this Danav in this way and Ram killed Ravan to get Sita back and its made out to be political, but its not. The stories have meaning that are either misinterpreted or just not listened too...... (I'm not complaining about Hinduism, just how there isn't enough attention to the teaching of Hinduisms, its all about the Epics and stories)

I know but when one really thinks about it, these stories are nothing but a fight which is actually going on inside us...I think we have a God and Danav inside each one of us which keeps fighting. There are times you want to help some one when a voice inside you says dont, keep this money for enjoying yourself or something. The fact is that in all religions, the interference of these so called gyani log like pandits and other people has adulterated the religion...they interpret the meaning of sin, when they themselves dont understand it.
you are right people dont understand the true meaning of these stories which are more of symbols then anything else. They actually are true depiction of things like the fall of arrogance, vanity and such demonic emotions....I wish more people understood the fact that hinduism is more about cleansing your deeds and becoming a better person than just praying..like they say God only helps those who help themselves...you dont need to be a rich person to please Gods..please his subjects, help the people in need and he will be pleased..
so simple yet the toughest part

Your really good at explaining chinuji2004, thanks for all your explanations! I'm sure you would have made a great Guru (Sage) and are one in a modern age! What you have explained has really cleared things up for me and I'm sure others who read and don't post or have an IF account!

I realised, there have been so many Mahabharat's on TV but yet none of them explore the Bhagvad Gita, which is more important than Karan getting his thumb cut off or Duryodhan throwing Bhim into the sea...... All these serials just show the violent or fun parts of the Epics, not its true meaning!

So since this topic is for what you would change.... I would say, Mata Ki Chowki, listen to what we think, then don't make the serial another Saas Bahu Saga, they are lame and boring, but show the real meaning of Hinduism, not 24 crore devtas/deviyan, but how Hinduism is a religion of one GOD, with loads of avtars, to fulfill a different role in our life (like it has been mentioned in this topic), so don't create politics between our Devtas, its like arguing with yourself - why would you do that? and so why would you make the Devtas argue if really, they are one, but are different avtars. The parikshas were good, testing different elements of Vaishnavi and so were the twists in the story, but stay away from Saas Bahu stuff!

And with this I hope to start my next discussion, which is still in the planning stages. Thanks to everyone who participated in this discussion, I appreciate it and hope you will join in my next discussion and future ones too!

By the way, you can still post on this topic, I'm not closing it, neither should it be closed, we always love to have a chat!
