True that, previous season it was bearable thanks to Nayan, this year I am only watching for Aashique, only he seems decent

Agreed. I liked Suraj and Kenny initially, but Kenny is gone and Suraj is just like Gurki last season.

I hope Aashiq wins but I have my doubts. Iss saal toh Rukshar hi jeetegi.

Rukshar ko nahi jeetana cahiye, she only cooks same kashmiri food every week, where is the innovation? Atleast Aashiq is trying different things, i know not every week but still.

True, this season was so short, I don’t think it’ll stay on my mind for long.
also, there was too much bias, no contestant stood out. As much as I like Aashiq, even he is stuck to one type of cuisine. Surprisingly Harry is the one that made the most variety

Yes. If you look at actual innovations and variety, then Harry was first. I would say Kenny was next. Followed by Nambi. The others are all basically stuck to their cuisines.

Chalo again no new innovations really.

We have dalia risotto, kofta and risotto, falafel plate, cake....I forget the rest already.

Thank you MCI Season 8. I do not think I will be returning for future seasons after this snoozefest of a season.

So today the contestants had to use the core ingredient from their audition dishes and make a new dish.

Nidhi - chickpeas

Harry - lemon/lime

Rukhsaar - chicken

Aashiq - Basa fish

Suraj - pistachios

Nambi - black rice

Nidhi made a beetroot hummus and broccoli falafel with pita bread. She couldn’t find yeast in the pantry so she used baking powder and baking flour. Her pita bread was too hard (like a bhakri as a guest judge said. Bhakri is a thick dry flatbread made of millets). Beetroot hummus is way too common, we’ve seen a lot of variation of falafel as well. There’s so much more she could’ve done with chickpeas. It’s such a versatile ingredient. Her dish in my opinion lacked any thought. The plating for a change was decent.

Harry made a cauliflower steak with some lemon drizzle and a lemon sauce, he added grilled tofu for protein and some sautéed spinach. He also added a Parmesan and lemon crisp. His dish didn’t sound interesting or even appealing to me. But atleast it seemed more unique compared to Nidhi’s. They appreciated that he used lemon in so many elements.

Rukhsaar - she made some chicken kofta with saffron risotto and salad. She still stuck to her Kashmiri cooking. Again nothing new. The guest judges said that they didn’t understand the risotto in this dish but chef Pooja immediately jumped to say how it worked for her, the creaminess went well with the kofta curry. The guest judges liked her kofta but not all liked her risotto. The original judges of course went ga ga over her dish.

Aashiq - he made dalia risotto cooked in fish stock and beetroot juice, baked fish with kumquat sauce and zest, grilled vegetables and grapes in some kind of vinegar (that he didn’t use well last week). His plate looked dull. It was minimalistic, but the colours of his dish needed a different plate in my opinion. I appreciate that he made something different and even tried using an ingredient he failed at using correctly in a previous challenge. Truly shows how much he’s evolved. He got mostly good reviews, the candied kumquat he used as garnish was a masterstroke.

Suraj- he made pistachio mousse topped with curry powder ganache served on a coffee crumble with mango ginger and green apple sauce. It looked good and sounded amazing, except for the coffee crumble. But apparently it worked. I think his dish was unanimously praised.

Nambi - she made black rice pancakes, with a sweet bean stuffing served with coconut and jaggery infused cream to make it seem like pitha served with some berries. To me it seemed like a very simple dish and reminded me of Nidhi’s pancakes. Her dish was praised a lot, maybe it tasted good but innovation wise I’m not convinced. Even the sweet beans is not innovation, quite popular in the far east.

Overall I’m happy Nidhi is gone, but I’m surprised they didn’t try to save her over Harry.

So, it's cooking with the same core ingredient that was presented in the auditions by the contestants. Boring challenge as I would've liked a swap challenge midway.

Ashiq- Nice to see him use the basa fish as it was kinda better to see him cooking something without prawns involved. Interesting to see him use kumquat in his dish. Not his best presentation though but appreciated that he used kumquat esp the glazed part & the special vinegar in it. Like Vikas said, some dry component could've completed the dish.

Nambi- black rice cake isn't innovative to me. Plating wasn't her best, looked kinda childish. The strawberry sauce is too common.

Nidhi- just some flavored falafel, hummus, and some salad as a wholesome dish is just... tad too simple at this stage. The main conflict was that there was no yeast in her bread which is why it seemed like it tasted like a hardened bread or a bhakri.

Rukhsar- just some typical Kashmiri dum-cooked chicken kofta served with so-called risotto. Please eliminate her. Pooja, as usual, making expressions even though it's quite evident that she's clueless judge lol. 😂 🤣 The risotto usage was confusing for sure.

Harry- too much elements were being described on a platter for me. I kinda had to wait to see what he actually presented on his plate. Those baked cauliflowers were looking too hard & chunky for me. Not his best, IMO. Though it is nice that he didn't let go of the lemon in his dish.

Suraj- his dish was enticing esp the curry powder ganache bit. I do like the greenish coloring of the mouse & the relish was looking nice too. I feel if the dish was centered bit & less of the crumble, it might've been better. It seemed like more sweetness was required as per one of the food connoisseurs.

Also, so fed up of observing the fact that some of these cooks never cooked some food like risotto or whatever when it's quite clear that they've been trained about it and briefed about it. Stop lying, like its quite evident. Whoever's the director of these episodes needs to be fired by Endemol.
