But I feel that KDP presently is not trying to promote obscurantist ideas. Actually I feel Amma is not raising all these traditional ideas out of her belief in them. I feel she is doing it to just get back at Dadi for forcing tradition down her throat all these years. She is only using Gauri as the vehicle. Later it may turn out that she was initially very progressive but was ruthlessly put down by Dadi. That's my POV.
Good thing is, KDP is provoking us to think about all this.
So, let us continue watching KDP!

Chuttan has brought Shiv Gauri to sari shop. Ram explains about the shop background. Gauri excited. Vishram showing her around the various Saris. Gauri trying it on her shoulder and Shiv giving his approval. Then Chuttan brings out some more . Gauri selects a whole lot of them but finally takes only a couple when told that the bahus can't take more than 4 saris for free as per Bauji's rules. Chuttan then wants Shiv to show her around Benaras.
Chuttan Ram etc all at dining table. Ram all praise for Gauri. Dadi smiling. Amma upset (in kitchen with Sarla) that everyone is falling for Gauri's charm .
Bauji wants to take Amma out. Amma complains about Shauri being out. Chuttan tells that he knew and they should not wait for them for dinner. Amma again in kitchen complaining about Chuttan to Sarla. Sarla also angry that Chuttan never supported her like he has been supporting Gauri.
Shauri arrive and Shiv calls out to Amma. Chuttan asks where all they had gone and to tell it to Dadi. Amma upset that Dadi also knew. Taunts that he has gone without informing her. Shiv has brought favourite kulfi for Amma. Amma reluctantly sits down and has kulfi. Shiv wants her to relax as Gauri takes over the kitchen. Amma wants her to take a bath first. Gauri smilingly goes for bath. Dadi praising Shiv.
Sawants sitting for dinner. Nok jhok between Baba Aajee. Nachi refuses usaal as it is prepared by Nisha. Aajee also wants him to taste it. Nisha requests him to eat it. Nachi refuses and walks out.
Nisha blaming herself and asking aaiee what she should do now. Aaiee wants her to give some time to Nachi. Nisha thanks her for allowing her to stay. Nisha in tears.
Sarla complaining to Gauri that Gauri is enjoying life while she has never been taken out by Ram. Gauri promises she will talk to Ram bhaiyya.
Amma arrives and fires Gauri first for calling Ram by name and then tells her not to spoil all other people by converting them to Mumbai way of thinking like she has done for Munna. Amma fires Gauri that she is trying to convert Benaras into Mumbai. Warns her that she will look at other means to bring her in line. Looks at Sarla and fires her too.
Gauri in her room. Shiv wants her to choose a sari which she has brought. Gauri remembers Amma's words in kitchen. Gauri hesitant. Shiv wants his original Gauri back. Shiv gives her kasam that she has to do it for him.
Precap: Gauri pleading with Shiv (getting ready for office) to break his kasam. Shiv flatly refusing that he won't break this vow and that getting into some other culture does not mean forgetting one's own culture.

I loved Shiv's dialogue in the precap that adopting some other culture does not necessarily mean forgetting your own culture.

So ab Dadi pashyataap ki aag mein jaal rahi hai aur Amma badale ki aag mein, beech me phas gaye aapne Shauri.
I love how the writers seem to have a good grasp of the audience feelings and make the characters say it out loud.
E.g. A couple of episodes ago Amma explained her insecurities to Shiv and Dadi.
Babuji become an arm chair quarterback and gave gyaan to Shiv
Today Shiv mentioned to Gauri that he wants his simple and sober Gauri back and not the one decked in bhari bharkum Benarsi Saris.

BTW anyone notice how Ram said something about the shop being 200 years old??!! Did I get it wrong or was it a slip up by CVs?

Lol Lfizgd.. You got it right. I noticed it too. Foundation of the shop by Dadaji 200 years ago sounds strange. Is that a goof up by CVs or our dear Hindi dialogue writer Dadiji?! 😛

@Lfizgd, you did hear it correct. The sari shop was set up 200 years back as per Ram. Looks like a goof up by CVs.
However, important thing was now Ram is also openly praising Gauri for sticking to the "sari buying" niyam even as no other bahu has followed the "only 4 sari free" rule for the shop. Amma is now really worried that even Sarla is getting influenced by Gauri and now she is feeling isolated. That is the reason of this kadak warning to Gauri which has resulted in Gauri hesitating to wear the new sari.
No way are they trying to make Gauri into some goddess because she is doing things which are absolutely normal and comes naturally to her (her frugalness)but were never done by the bahus of Shukl parivar. She is not showing any howratpana even when taking the saris from the shop. Ram says this never happened. So he is bowled over.
I can see Nisha genuinely trying to turn the leaf and get over the past. Aaiee Baba are also now convinced of it and are supporting her. Yesterday even Aajee showed a bit of support by asking Nachi to at least taste the usaal but Nachi was adamant. I am sure that Nisha is on the path of reformation (unless CV's do the foolish thing of again making Nisha go back to her earlier avatar). I have great hopes from CV's that they will not do a flip flop with Nisha's character here onwards.
With Amma's dire warning, Gauri is in a dilemma about how to please Shiv without further anatgonising Amma. She is hesitant because if she tells the already agitated Shiv about Amma's threat she is sure he will explode.
The situation is interestingly poised how Gauri manages to keep Shiv happy without further antagonizing Amma.
Keeping things tight and not allowing any drift is the reason we love to watch KDP. So baghaat rahu KDP.
