but i see her in a different light ... she had the all powers to do wonders ...
what a wife can so sometimes no one else can ... if she wanted she could be been the eyes of Dhritarashtra ... he could have seen the world through her eyes ... for me it wouldn't be surpassing but completing him in a lot of ways ... it would help him fight his insecurities ... she could have easily made him get on her boat but instead she jumped onto his where they both sank ... sank into darkness ...

she was a strong willed woman who could have change Dhritarashtra's perspective in some ways and also taken charge of her children ... bringing them up instead of leaving that part for Shakuni ... kids are venerable ... and it wasn't like Gandhari didn't know the values and hatred Shakuni was instilling in her kids ... as a mother that is your almost duty ... and if you fail there is no one you can blame!! ... this is a very important lesson in life that we should all learn through Gandhari

i believe whatever God has given us ... we should treasure them ... make them our strengths !!

Interesting take TJ😊
I dont say that she was not at fault.. But every character in Mahabharat has done mistakes.. Probably Gandhari never thought her mistakes would make her loose all her children..Probably Gandhari never thought that she did any wrong too.. Her devotion to her husband.. would be more like accepting his husband's world of darkness...Silly it made sound...May be it was her way of taking revenge from deal she got in this marriage... or may be it was her disappointment with her fate...
As a mother.. for all misdeeds we usually tend to blame parents and upbringing.. isnt it.. Sadly she could have done better ..but the fact that she paid a heavy price for this negligence cant be denied at all... 😊

Very well written Riti...beautiful

One can empathize with Gandhari's plight all along but she chose to stay in the dark when she had every opportunity to 'see' the truth. After all, God helps those who help themselves

Thanks bheegi :)
Ya I do understand she made some mistakes.. Unfortunately it proved very costly for her with eventually loosing everything she cherished.
Rightly said..God help those who help themselves..

riti 🤗

i get your point ... but if you start taking revenge from your own marriage ... you have just chosen the wrong building blocks as the foundation to build your life ... how can it sustain anything ...

of course she paid a heavy price ... she was hurt beyond comprehension ... and it showed when she cursed Lord Krishna after the war ... but i still believe she was the woman who had a lot of power to change a lot of things

read another story about Gandharis background,
Was a Shivbhakt, as we have seen but interstingly enough this story about shakuni taking over...
apparently a priest had said that Gandharis first husband would die and so they married her to a goat and killed the goat, Then she was married to Dhrit...When Dhrit found out he imprisoned her family and left them to starve with a grain of rice a day. Of her so family, 100 brothers, shakuni was the smartest...and they all decided to save their rice so he could eat and survive and take their revenge on the Kuru clan, in addition to Bheeshmas revenge of asking Gandhari for a "blind king"
In a way, she was guilty or obligated but never took off her veil even when her 100 sons were born!
She lived the best and first time in the sabha, she had tried to help Draupadi by returning all but they bet it all ...
When she got upset and used all her tapasya to make duryodhan a man of steel, with her vision, minus the boxer shorts, he wore, she cursed uttara and killed her child in the womb.
Read that it is when Lord Krishna used his "man life tapasya" to bring the child back to life...
She was a grey character, and did try to control her kids but dhritrashtra was blind in love, truly for duryodhan and like all parents wanted to live his life vivaciously through his sons! shakuni took such an interest and was really his father, could see, spent all time with them and for him Looked after his best interests...
which i guess gandhari and dhrit...allowed and turned a blind eye to all his flaws...
interestingly enough, it was shakunis dad, who told him to carve dice out of his leg bone, and the vindictiveness to destroy the clan and it worked oh so well!
So seeing Gandharis life...well she was human! with her shades of Grey!

I read this through Phone!!
then was not able to comment!!

I chose darkness as my fate.

She,instead of being his light chose to be veiled! It was her decision to be blind to the wrongs around! I don't know, I will never understand Gandhari! Was it because of her love towards her husband? Its hard! Or was it, I somehow feel this to be the reason, was it her way of escapism? Escaping from the wrongs in her life, which is her marriage to Dhritharashtra... and doing a greater wrong?

Gandhari is definitely not a character to look upon! But surely she is intriguing! And we can find various interpretations for her actions!

You have written it so beautifully! ❤️
