I don't believe one's mistakes make one bad. How can we be so sure that Kunti did not repent her actions all her life? Aren't guilt and remorse the feelings that teach a person the lesson he/she needs to be taught? Kunti did do one mistake, she had her reasons and I'm not here to justify them. But one mistake of hers cannot define her as a person. One mistake of hers does not tarnish her character. She had virtues too. I think it is basic human nature to overlook a person's virtues and hold onto the mistakes they have committed and thus, an opinion about that person is formed. Negativity spreads like wildfire, and positivity takes time because it comes with a cause. I don't believe I can judge Kunti because she did one mistake.
Infact I admire Kunti for the courage she showed in keeping the secret. Many may think of me as a person who has no knowledge of Mahabharata and Karna's history, But I for one can understand how difficult it must have been for a mother to see her son suffer infront of her own eyes. To keep mum about one child of hers to secure the future of five other sons of her's. To see her oldest son die in the hands of her fourth, helplessly. And one may argue she could have avoided all of that from happening by revealing the truth, but think about the outcome that would have cropped up.

Kunti WAS punished for her mistake. She saw her son die in the hands of her son. THAT there my friends was the biggest blow of her life!

Also she could not reveal his identity as her son even in the rang-bhoomi as that would have only increased his problems and also her 5 other sons would have been humiliated. BUT there was absolutely no need to reveal his identity when they were at the verge of a war. She did not do it out of her love towards Karna. She only did it to morally weaken him. After all he was the only one on the Kaurava side who was a big threat for Pandavas. That undoubtedly makes her selfish. She may have been a good mother to the pandavas but she was never a mother to Karna and she had no right to demand or even request anything from him.

Nah.. Kunti was not selfish.. She was doing it from desperation..she did not want brothers to fight.. But it was too late..and she did not reveal the truth because of same reason..she was scared.. And no dear..she did not do it to weaken him..no mother would do that..and weakening him it would do only good to him. So not a mistake.

And honestly, Karna already knew they were his brothers. There was no way he could have been 'morally weakened'. And besides, in my eyes, he WAS morally weak for asking his 'dear friend' to disrobe a woman in front of an entire sabha!

Kunti is really praised a lot by most of the people. I grew up hearing things like, she is the one who plays with newly born kids when they sleep, she is called Kuntyavva (Avva is Mother in Kannada). Its believed that she is the one who consoles kids when they cry, and things like that. That shows how most of the people regard her as a great mother.

Who am I to really judge her with this Kali yuga mindset ?? But, my ignorant mind can only come up with these thoughts.

I really appreciate her strong mind for raising all 5 kids, being impartial and everything, and making them what they were.
She definitely wins as a Mother there, but when it comes to Karna, it's a No for me !!

Why then did Yudisthir curse ?!! Him being Dharmaraj, with so much of goodness and patience could not take the matter calmly then its hard for me to take it that way too.

His life would have been very different had she been a true mother to him.
I will not blame her for abandoning the kid. Nor, will I blame her for not revealing it to Pandu after marriage, but, she could've confided it to her sons before war, or some other time.

Whatever maybe God preferred it that way!! Pre-destined !!

So that for me is her only biggest fault.

brishti please subtract one vote from "yes" option. because I voted it by mistake, if there is any way to change it tell me. I donot consider her bad, may b not complete lly white but definitely she was a gr8 mother in my eyes.she took those decisions which secured her children future. many may not like it but she thought practically, she always looked for bigger picture rather than putting her sentiments and emotions in a governing position to decide anything. she maynot have been right mother for karna but in my pov pandavas could have gotten no better mother than her. I donot think she lived for herself as many might think, she lived to make her sons strong.

Hello,
My 10 cents on this interesting discussion. 😊

I don't feel it's her mistake to just check the blessing she got and getting Karna born.
But I do feel it's unjustice to leave ur new born child even if it is made of ur mistake.
She had several chances to change what was done. OK telling Pandu about Karna didn't happen (Destiny)

Not accepting him even after seeing Kavach n Kundal when he was fighting Against Arjun was Mistake. If she would've spoken at that time, that would've made way much difference. I know it would still not change her place in Karna's heart but it would've prevented Duryodhan from taking away Karna's advantage and everything that lead after that point onward.

Another chance when Karna presented lotus to her.. she said Karna's like ur elder brother, WHY can't she said then?

She had opportunities to speak truth, even to tell Bheeshma if she couldn't said herself.

To me she failed as mother. Many wrongs in her.

She said too when Krishn suggested. Krishn pointed out the example of Parvati. & no she didn't say it to save Karna. She said to save Arjun, because Karna was never going to be defeated. I personally feel that she was never attached to Karna. (now that is my POV) ppl can have different perception to this.

Not speaking anything when u notice and know what is right doesn't make her saint.
She is as guilty as Bheeshm and guru draun.

P.S. I agree 100% with Karna's conversation and justification of his thoughts in yesterday's episode. Through out he said "Rajmata" and not "mata" I agree.
