I have 'heard' that after Bhishma was done reciting the Vishnu Sahastranama, he was requested by Yudisthira to recite Shiva Sahastranama, Bhishma however failed, Krishna then recited the Shiva Sahastranama. Is this true?

Which used to puzzle me, since in Ashramvatika Parva, there is a mention of Parikshit sitting on Uttara's lap b4 the meeting w/ Abhimanyu, but after that, no mention of her @ all. I was curious, and just a couple of days ago, read that part about all the kshatranis leaving and drowning themselves in the Ganga on Vyasa's instructions, so that they could rejoin their husbands.

What meeting with Abhi???? Tell!
I think she would have been with him, and died after Takshaka bit him.

P.S. What is that gif on your signature of Karna eating something?

The meeting that the survivors had with Abhimanyu and all the souls that left their earthly abode in the war.. that is what he seems to be talking about..

If you read Mahaprasthanika Parva, you'll see mentions of Subhadra and other Pandava queens. It's also mentioned that Chitrangada returned to Babruvahana, and Uloopi returned to the watery Naga kingdom, but no mention is made about Uttara staying w/ Parikshit.

I too have the same question. Most probably she died with the other kshatranis as she wasn't even mentioned in the mahaprasthanika parva. 😊

I have a question regarding the epic-
Why was Dury not coronated the king of HP after Yudi became the king of IP?

I guess for that Dhrit should have formally abdicated the throne. Maybe he still did not want to give up the throne at that point of time. But anyway Dury was taking all the major decisions.

Yeah, I too could come to only that conclusion. Which would beg the question - why didn't Kunti leave as well & join Pandu, instead of remaining w/ DG, which she didn't belong?

Another question I have is about Bhima & Dury's thighs. Bhima had vowed to smash them, yeah, but he wasn't specific about which weapon he'd use. So why couldn't he, during the war, use any other weapon to damage it? Like a sword, or an arrow? Yeah, I know that Yudhi's stupid offer to Dury to let him pick both weapon & adversary forced Bhima's hand, but aside from that, when the 2 did occasionally battle, Bhima, who was no mean archer, could have aimed his arrows @ Dury's thighs & done him in.

Hi Friends
My knowledge on the epic saga is very little based on only bed time stories by my grandmother and tv serials. I have started reading Mahabharat recently, want to know which online site is closest to the original Mahabharat. There are many stories related to MB that is talked about and sometimes they are contradictory to each other. All these are damn confusing for a beginner like me. Different people come up with diff explanations... Wiki is not of much help either.
Now presently I have three questions- may be very silly ones!! Please bear with me.
1. Did Ashwatthama take any vow of lifelong celibacy like Bhism? I have heard about it. In the serial I don't know what they are showing? If yes then why And when He took such a wise decision? He doesn't look like someone very wise like Bhism to me.
2. Ashwathama directed Bhramhasira towards the womb of Uttara, or he directed it towards the wombs of all pandava womenfolk in general (which is difficult to believe bcoz all of them were not present in one place na?). What actually he did?
3. Why was Abhimanyu's child the only heir of Pandavas? Agree that all their children were died but were they so old at the time of Kurukshetra that they were incapable of producing children anymore? Even a septuagenarian can produce children. I mean technically it is not impossible right?. So what was stopping Pandavas to marry young princesses and produce heirs? In those times they had sages who could generate children from anywhere anytime. If they really wanted to carry forward their legacy was it so difficult for them?
Please someone explain these to me?
