These points are so valid. He doesn't deserve the name Bhishma, neither he seems to be the greatest Krishna devotee. He's ignorant towards his vows, totally dumb! And now the latest news is him being an Emotional blackmailer and stopping the battle.

I have a question about Bheeshma, related to current events. Maybe this might have been better for the D&D thread, in which case, feel free to ask for it to be moved there. Anyway, the question is this.

Bheeshma, from what I understand, required that Karna be kept out of the war, and he also told Duryodhan in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't kill the Pandavas.

My question - if Bheeshma could put such conditions on his own participation, why couldn't he stay out of the war completely? Either he had the freedom to go independently of Dhritarashtra/Duryodhan, or he didn't. If he did, there was no reason he needed to participate in this war. If he didn't, then how could he put conditions like he's not gonna kill the Pandavas, or that Karna can't be a part of his army? (Incidentally, was it Bheeshma who disbarred Karna, or Karna who refused to serve under him?)

I'm still unable to figure out that why he sided with the kauravas. Kshatriya dharma is a good point, but not the sole reason IMO.
Bheeshma told Duryodhana that he won't let Karna fight as long as he's the commander, so either he will fight first or Karna.
