Yes it is possible. I had shared this in someother thread also-
It actually happens even today, and its causes are still unknown. In Medical terms it is called - 'postterm pregnancy'. Nowdays if such case occurs, that is if a woman's pregnancy prolongs beyond the normal period, then labour is 'induced' with the help of doctors to deliver the baby, or else the baby will die. Either hormonal medications are given or surgical techniques are used to do so.
I think Gandhari's baby had died inside the womb bcause after 9 months the fetus can begin to suffer from malnutrition. After the 42nd week of gestation, the placenta which supplies the baby with nutrients and oxygen from the mother, starts aging and will eventually fail. May be this is why Gandhari gave birth to a dead and decayed lump of flesh.
Later what Vyas did by putting the pieces of flesh in to 100 pots of clarified butter sounds similar to test-tube babies. Because it is actually impossible for a woman to carry 100 babies at a time, so it can be assumed that the 101 kauravas were born through the test-tube incubation technique.

I agree with red part of your post. And after giving birth to a lump of flesh this was proved that delay in delivery led to this type of birth. And thats why ved veyas was needed to give them human form.
Thanks for the information.

According to medical information human pregnancy can expand to 10 or 11 months not more than that,in rare cases.I do not think it can last for 40 years what happen to the poor woman.
Birth of lump of flesh told the myth behind her prolonged pregnancy.
