Madhubala - A simple and ordinary girl who lives in a chawl and has a below average income to support her family. But is a strong, independent and brave woman who fights for the right thing till the end and never backs down.
Rishabh Kundra - A rich and famous Movie Star with a bad past. He has everything that a person could wish for, money, good looks, fame and a Mother and wife who loved him dearly, which he never respected. He is insecure and vengeful and enjoys inflicting pain on others and watching them wallowing in misery and hides his true emotions behind the barrier of his ego.
Sultan - A Gangster with an even worse past, who can kill people with the blink of an eye. But has a heart that actually beats for his near and dear ones. He respects the people he cares about and would do anything to help them out in need. He can play with guns and bullets, but he would never play with someone's feelings and emotions.
I am not comparing any character to the other. Just listing out their personality traits. Because I don't admire a character for his/her resume. I admire them for their personalities and qualities. Just a witty dialogue from a character cannot impress me, there's a lot more to them then just that.
P.S: Bashers, stay away!
Lovely post! And fabulous analysis, Fia!
The Madhu-Sultan relationship has an indescribable sweetness about it.
Just, I wanted to say that I felt you shortchanged Rishabh Kundra a bit.
(Don't get me wrong - I'm not a rabid RK fan attacking your post - in fact, I'm solidly in the middle.)
Rishabh Kundra's problem is his ego. No doubts there. But the reason he's such a conflicted, troubled human being is that he is equally capable of great love, tremendous passion, heart-melting tenderness. Above all, he has the capacity to put one person above every thing else.
My reading is that he was so scared of this side of his nature - the ability to go up in smoke, burn down the world if necessary, of wiping himself out in love - that he pulled himself up and set about hacking Madhu out of his life.
He regrets that, of course. No matter how he camouflages it, it is clear he IS grovelling. He's going about it the wrong way, but the intention is: I want you back and now - before someone else can stake a claim.
I confess, I want to see him suffer. But see his condition: the loss of Madhu compounded by the threat of Sultan. He's technically got Madhu back but is afflicted with doubt, suspicion at her sudden compliance and still worried about Sultan and the assignations his wife continues to have with him.
On top of this he cannot afford to be overtly nasty or overbearing - it could drive Madhu away.
I do feel a pang for him.
