Hey all,

Any idea why all the 3 colors shows's TRPs fell drastically for week 6?

Balika Vadhu fell to 3.9 from 4.7 (0.8 drop) ---> 17% drop

SSK fell to 3.1 from 4.0 (0.9 drop) --> app 22 % drop

MEIEJ fell to 3.0 from 3.9 (0.8 drop) --> app 20% drop

relatively the other 2 new shows; NBT fell by 6.25% and Sanskaar fell by 13 %

Why app same drop for all three soaps ? Any coverage area changed in TRP capture.

If all three shows have app same % drop then that is Channels popularity drop at three different times and not show's popularity.

Answer lies in sample size who passed this verdict I guess ...They did not reveal if any new cities were added.

In GRP (GEC) terms, only ZEE gained.

As for MEIEJ...the only public news was Promo and there was no Spoiler news in SBB, ABP, E24 or National dailies likes TOI.
TRP audience do not visit IF-TB news articles...I don't think they knew about Sourabh Tewari's tweet.

Going by MEIEJ TRP break-up, people watched on Monday...promo came out for Saturday...and again TRP is better for saturday. Lack of news and the reason abt Channel not being popular for people is coming out clearly.

These results are BIG UPSET for Colors channel...business wise, because, how all their soaps rating drop in the same manner? BV and SSK going down is a BIG JHATKA for Colors, I think...

This week
The channels which gained this week are ZEE, SET MAX , Movies Ok and Sahara One and biggest loss is for Star Plus this week, where as it had steep rise in previous week 5

Overall 2 week analysis since new 4 new cities got added.
The channels which gained over the two weeks are STAR Plus, ZEE, SET MAX , Movies Ok and Sahara One.

That Zee moved ahead and Star fell back, means more cities were added or Zee investigated last week's drop and may be calculation was corrected in its favour.

So Colors did not lose a lot from last week, but the gain in other two channels Star Plus and Zee has made it look as if Colors top three shows fell. Interestingly all Colors top shows fell in the range of 17 to 22 % for prime time. Its two new shows also had a fall. There is no rating yet available for their weekend show Nautanki.

So clearly Colors knows the skewed results and its vision was to be Number one this year. They need to plan more.

As for the Fiction content, IMO, all three Top shows of Colors are dramatically poised at major upheaval tracks and actually positioned with interesting stories...their stories at this time grip the audience because, one single action from a member of the drama, finishes the tug of war...they are very closely tied at this moment. So the shows are not failing. All three of them still have their loyal audience which is in the range of 3 to 4 TRP, which is still good at this time. As the base increases, more cities are added, then Colors may actually find, it is not at all popular in rest of India 😆

So don't worry for MEIEJ Story...worry for Colors itself 😆

Slowly they are taking into consideration all the small towns and cities in India and according to the news they were to have entire India covered by the end of March. That i suppose was a deadline. Now you cannot deny the fact that Zee being the oldest channel has reach to the remotest of the cities in India. So its natural for Zee to gain... Besides SP too is an older channel with good reach.

Uptil last week i guess the TRP's were from Major metros and cities in India and colors does have a good hold there but not in the small towns as far as i know... So i guess it was kind of expected.

This is something similar to what I had posted somewhere else..

To me this seems to do more with colors channel as a whole than just a negative reaction to the twist in MEIEJ..
how else do we explain all their top 3 shows falling by more or less the same %.

This is not to say that the audience did not like or liked the track..but the decline doesnt sem to be soley dependent on what is being shown..

The trps did get delayed by a day..could it be possible that new states were added without us knowing..

GhostOrchid,

Exactly. Agree with you... This is JUST not about MEIEJ fall.

I just added an ETA portion in my previous post...
Going by MEIEJ TRP break-up, people watched on Monday...promo came out for Saturday...and again TRP is better for saturday. Lack of news and the reason abt Channel not being popular for people is coming out clearly.

Seems, you must be right new cities got added that are not Colors stronghold.

Shri, very confusing indeed!

On the face of it, it's the same sample size from last week were the same three shows were in the top 5 trp list.

Unless, like Ghost orchid says, new cities were added without it being made public or the calculations last week or this week are incorrect!

One thing I'm sure of is that it's NOT a problem of reach or accessibility...the set top boxes, which are being sold at an affordable price compared to digital boxes like Tata Sky, come with all the GEC channels by default. It's ultimately a matter of choice.

Let's face it, SP and ZEE have a wider audience recognition than colors which does come with the reputation of airing rather archaic based stories that seem to portray women undergoing suppression of one sort or another.
I used to avoid colors myself until Chaal began to air and now MB.

In the South, were I live, the regional channels rule the roost..I even doubt if the TAM considers us a sample!
Anyway, our set top boxes have these channels...I'm the only one who watches them while my ma-in-law is glued to her Malayalam shows.
So, we are paying for the channels that we don't watch as well.

Tata Sky is different...not only is it more expensive, it also allows us to choose the package we want...so, if we don't watch colors, we simply choose a package without it.

I checked the BV and SSk forums...they don't seem happy with the way their shows are going..BV seems to focus on someone other than the main leads and SSK seems to be having a track where one of the lead couples are divorced or something and are either marrying someone else or sleeping with someone other than their legally wedded spouse.

Could the current tracks, then, be the reason why all the three leading shows have taken such a beating?

What do our producers expect from the revised TAM sheets?

What do our producers expect from the revised TAM sheets?

Tellybuzz in talks with the producers of the television industry to know about their expectations for tomorrow's TAM sheets…

The television industry waits for Wednesday – The judgment day. Along with a good fan following, the fate of a television show is dependent on the numbers it gets on this day. The TAM ratings were pulled off few months ago for digitization of four cities. The TRP race began once again from mid-December and a few changes in the TRP trend were easily noticeable.

Today again is the judgment day but the TAM sheet goes missing. Reason? The TAM sheets will be releasing tomorrow i.e. is on Thursday with the inclusion of markets of MP, UP, Punjab and Rajasthan. This may bring out some twist in this number game. Tellybuzz spoke to some of the producers of the industry to know if they are expecting some shocking results for tomorrow or not?

Rajan Shahi, the maker of popular TV shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and Amrit Manthan, says, "Last time also the return of TRP bought a big surprise for everyone. Some of the shows showed a good progress while some showed the same kinds of numbers. I do expect some kind of surprises in tomorrow's ratings. Its very unpredictable. We do our work with a lot of effort and wait for the results. I am expecting some surprises for tomorrow."

Producer Yash Patnaik, the man behind Veera and Junoon - Aisi Nafrat, toh Kaisa Ishq shares, "I am sure it will. The more centres will get included in it, the clearer picture we will get. It's a process and we should wait for the entire process to be complete."

The creator of Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha and The Buddy Project, Sudhir Sharma says, "I don't know about the surprises but yes it is a good sign that number of meters have increased. It is a step towards fairer ratings."

The man behind Diya Aur Baati Hum and Punar Vivah, Sumeet Mittal feels, "It can definitely bring out some surprises and we waiting for it. It's a good thing that we will be reaching out to more audience. We are going to boost if we are doing good and if we won't get good numbers, then we will think over what we are lacking. Being a positive person and since Diya Aur Baati Hum and Punar Vivah are doing well on television, I am expecting good numbers for them."

Producer of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Asit Modi told, "I don't think it will bring some surprises. No doubt, there will be some changes because we are going to get a more detailed version of the ratings. I feel that 10-15% of changes will be observed."

Nikhil Sinha, the maker of Devon Ke Dev. Mahadev said, "Surely tomorrow's TAM sheets are going to return with lots of surprises. New centres are being included and these centres hold a very important part of the audiences. So, I am expecting a lot of shocks and surprises for tomorrow."

Producer of Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Saurabh Tiwari said, "Yes, I definitely feel that there should be some surprises. TAM meters are being set up on a wide scale and its market is increasing. So, obviously we might get to see some unexpected things in it. I am happy that Madhubala managed to hold a good position in the rating list post digitization. According to the feedback I keep on getting, the craze of Madhubala is more inclined towards bigger cities and the new cities which have been added in the revised rating list are not very Madhubala or Colors oriented cities. So, Madhubala will have to fight it out."

Well, let's see how the inclusion of few more cities in the digitization arena will affect the numbers of our favorite shows.

The Producers are expecting BIG SHOCKS.
I think that is the true reason, why Sourabh Tewari personally sat to promote his show and tweeted for the whole week. His argument is, I did not fail...its the channel...
