Hello Ladies! This is my first discussion thread on Madhubala :D I am Boogleton Schizenheimer (Shiz-en-hi-mer) aka The Awesome Faria. I'll be totally lying if I said I'm to all this analysis business. Really its just a thread for my random blabbering with a deep and meaningful title (not! but it's sort of an inside joke, and by that I mean a joke only I know LOL) to grab attention!
Everyone is free to write here, and really that's why I have made this thread. I just hope there aren't any open.
Warning: I am no fanatic, I'm not a kind or nice person and I can't overlook the flaws of a show just because the love of my life (DD) is in it. No, this isn't a hate thread feel free to shower rose petals and rainbows and love!
I know lots of people including most of my friends will disagree with nearly everything I say but oh well, you can't please everyone and nor do I expect the first episode in itself to be a bombshell.
I loved the title sequence, it brought back pleasant memories of the old movies I have watched (which really isn't many, alas!) The music was apt, and the slides were edited beautifully. It really gave the olden 90's feel.
Acting by Raj Zutshi was executed absolutely brilliantly. The power he holds over the whole family you could see it oozing outing of his every pore. He's dominating, authoritative and an absolutely sadistic loon. You could see brutal madness in his eyes from the first frame. He's also a narcissist, the man is so arrogant and confident about his shooting skills he easily risked his daughters life. After all in his perception he can't go wrong. And when their Guru (lets ignore the fact what he said was probably all birds crap assume his prediction had some sort of validity. One history lesson many years ago, my teacher told me to emphasise with characters we must look through their eyes...and so I am, by switching off mi brain!) unveiled a daughter would bring bad luck (DUH DUH DUUUHHH!!!!) to the family, his ego went for a pitfall. Now whatever limited knowledge I have about narcissists (due to Criminal Minds LOL :P) I know that something like that certainly doesn't fit in well with them. And there it was again, the lunacy in his eyes. The only part the killed that scene for me was the mother hugging him, that drowned out the intensity of the scene for me. It just wasn't consistent with his character. However the song sequence ever so slightly recovered from the previous scene.
Now I have a pet peeve, this is totally random but yeah... And that is dramatic background music...which this show has a lot of. The BG score sucks. Actually I think apart from 'Diya aur Bati Hum' all shows have suck-ish background music. The dramatic music is over the top, and I think it just takes away from the scene because for someone like me I'll start concentrating on that instead. Like no dude, you can't fool me into thinking this scene is more intense or whatever because of the music :p But worse was Padmini's innocent music! Aggghhh! Just thinking of that makes my ears bleed...no kidding. It was just too sweet; there is a limit to sweetness!
Moving on...
The acting was melodramatic and over the top at many points of the show, not always but sometimes. The mother-daughter scene seemed forced. The actor who plays Padmini was always a millisecond late with her expressions, the dialogues seemed farce and not genuine and you could blatantly tell she was acting. I understand acting with children is a difficult job and takes some time to build that chemistry as the relationship between a parent and child is probably one of the strongest, purest relationships. Other than that specific scene the actress was decent. You could see the fear, the apprehension...it was all there. The mother shout-y person was also exaggerated and looked like something out of a B-grade movie. Like no...no one shouts like that, not even my angry little granny :| Chill with the vocal chords dude!
The dai lady wasn't bad, in fact she was probably one of actors I didn't find any flaws with the acting. Subtle yet very powerful, just goes to prove one doens't need to scream their bloody head off to cause an impact. Again, we have to overlook the fact they even thought she could feel the gender of the child. (And haven't we seen that one before!)
I know lots of people said it was fact-paced but for me I kept checking the time to see when the episode will end. There were times when I was tempted to stop watching and catch up on the WU.
But the sets were absolutely amazing! Lavish, grand and all other synonyms are apt. Both the house and the film set was beautiful, more than the acting :p
The rest about the background of the episode Mechantfille has covered (below my post) so I don't want to repeat what she has already mentioned.
I'm ready for the tomatoes and shoes coming my way! Feel free to disagree, argue, chew and spit out my post. After all I love reading other points of view, and maybe you can even change mine!
Happy discussing :D
