F for food, fashion, fun..

An evening of fashion and food, the two happening things that our party animals swear by, was witnessed at the celebration of Kunika Sadanand Lall and Shekhar Dadarkar's Italian restaurant in the suburbs on Thursday night. The gorgeous looking Kunika was busy from start to finish, attending to the sea of guests who swarmed in to eat, drink and make merry.
The evening kicked off with a rain-themed fashion show with clothes designed by Kunika's sister (and Deepak Tijori's wife), Shivani, who was later literally dragged on to the dais by her sister and husband. You can't be shy in the public eye, dahlin! This time around, Anupama Verma wasn't seen sashaying down the ramp, instead, the lady was behind the console choreographing the show! Fardeen and Natasha Khan bonded big time with Rozza, who seems to be partying 24x7 these days! The tattooed gals Aparna Tilak and Shveta Salve bonded over food, wine and of course, tattooes while their better halves Amod and Rodney Barnes enjoyed the evening. Rohit Roy made a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance, but only after warmly congratulating Kunika. Ashutosh Rana didn't come with wife Renuka, instead, he brought a huge bouquet for the hosts! Nisha Sagar thoroughly enjoyed the fashion show while Iqbal Khan and Sneha relished the Italian fare. Achla Sachdev tucked into the greens and also enjoyed the spread. Not to be seen too often Rajeev Khandelwal caught up with Shveta and Aparna. Parmeet Sethi was overheard telling a guest that the reason he was missing from the small screen was because he wasn't getting any interesting roles. Kunika's brother Kabir Sadanand sported a Tintin T-shirt and a cowboy pouch! A weird combination, we'd say. But then, when there's good food, fiery fashion and lots of fun, does it really matter?

Woes… left, right and centre

With the director of Deeya Singh's Left Right Leftquitting, will the show survive?

RANJIB MAZUMDER

Tony and Deeya Singh's Left Right Left is facing more crisis. First it was Rajeev Khandelwal threatening to quit, then it was the rest of the cast pressurising them for a salary hike and now the captain of the ship - director Anshuman Singh. Singh, who made the serial a big hit with the youngsters, has opted out of the show.
According to insiders, the director had numerous problems with the creative team. Says our source, "Anshuman Singh used to handle Left Right Left singlehandedly, unlike other serials that always have two-three directors. It was too much pressure for him, besides the creative director never co-operated with Anushuman."
Growing differences with the creative team and too much pressure took a toll on him. "When Anshuman decided to quit, Tony and Deeya offered him huge package, but he declined as he did not want to compromise."
When contacted, Anshuman. said, "I have done enough episodes for Left Right Left. But, I guess, it's time to move on."
But this is not the end of the woes for LRL. Another actress Priya Arya who plays Lolitha in the action-packed series, has decided to quit the show. Apparently she has been busy and is unable to provide enough dates to LFL.
Confirms the actress, "I was getting too busy with Kasturi and couldn't make enough time for LRL. It was better for me to back off. It was unfair of me to cause them delays."

Serving Sexy!

While the excitement on the grass court is more than evident, even non-serious sports enthusiasts are enjoying the drool factor. We asked around to figure out who is the Wimbledon hottie this year!

Rajeev Khandelwal:
My choice would be someone who many people find hot, that is Maria Sharapova. I love the energy and the power in her. No doubt, it makes her a winner. As far as the drool quotient goes, I feel it's the whole package of how she looks and carries herself. Also, I would vouch for Sania Mirza, the only deal being that she needs to move ahead and move far ahead than where she is now.

Priya wants to quit Left Right Left

She loves her role of a tough and strict warden Subedar Maj. Lolita Sen in Left Right Left. "It's a nice Bengali woman's character who acts very tough with the cadets but is actually a softie and I love playing the role," says Priya Arya. But the reason behind her wanting to quit the show is her outright negative role in Kasturi. "Alka is the backbone of the show and she will go to any length to make Kasturi unhappy. It's the main negative lead character in the serial and I want to give it my best," says Priya who feels guilty for not paying enough attention to her role in Left Right Left. "Because of me they are going through a mess. Either I make them relieve me early or they have to cancel my scenes and rewrite the script. I don't want my producer to go through more problems. I am quite emotionally attached to the show but I think I better be little more practical. I got Kasturi because of Left Right Left. Ekta liked my performance and offered me this meaty role and therefore Kasturi is very important to me." In daily soaps, in her opinion, only the main female protagonist and the main negative character get the best scenes, dialogues and maximum screen space. "Kasturi is my first break in a major negative character and I want to give it my best." (A.L.C)

Money, money

One For The Tummy: Rajeev Khandelwal
The buzz at Ekta Kapoor's birthday bash was that Rajeev Khandelwal is low on the good stuff (read: cash).

Of late, he has been sending strong feelers to Ekta via people in Balaji.

Says our khabru, "He is doing the weekly show Left Right Left, but a weekly is not giving him dough like what he was used to in Kahiin To Hoga.

Neither is he doing any films with Aamna Shariff, even though he went shouting from the rooftops about it some time back."

Well Rajeev, we understand your feelings. Aakhir paapi pet ka sawaal hai, na?

Kavita Shyam

Vikas Manitala

Vikas Maniktala aka Huda of Left Right Left fame has been throwing tantrums galore. The actor, who is yet to make a mark, has been giving a tough time to the producers of the show. He refuses to be punctual on the sets and frequently locks up himself in the make-up room along with his lady love Priyanka Bassi aka Naina. This has only added to the chagrin of other cast members as they vividly wait for the duo to emerge.

Says a source, "Vikas and Priyanka take their own sweet time to report to the sets. Once they are here, they cosy up to each other in the make-up room. Everyone is kept waiting on the set. The producers are disgusted with his unprofessional behavior."

Apparently, the actor has been threatening to walk out of the show if they do not put up with his tantrums. He has also engaged in fierce showdowns with co-actors in the past.

When quizzed about Vikas he clarifies, "Since how long have I been doing all this? I want to know from the people who are accusing me. I have been on medication for the past two months after an accident on the set. I could have blamed the unit for the accident but I did not do it. I think I have been co operative so far. If I have come late it's because of my health and the heavy rains."

Producers Tony and Deeya Singh were unavailable for comment.

Stars look back as LRL completes a year

SAB TV's Left Right Left, with only one known face Rajeev Khandelwal, has completed a year. The story of the show is based on a military camp and the relationship between students and teachers in the camp. Within a year, the serial has gained tremendous popularity especially among the youth.

We spoke to some of the stars to find out how life has changed in the last one year.

Rajeev Khandelwal (Captain Rajveer), the most popular face of the serial, says, "It started at a very small channel and people have accepted it and so naturally I am feeling great. Many people thought the show will not work but it has become popular. It is definitely a big achievement for all of us.

I think a show like this will never come on television again. Most of the serials copy each other's script but Left Right Left has been a breath of fresh air.

This is my second daily soap and has given me more popularity than my first. It is a very versatile character and I really enjoyed playing it.

Having said that, I can't spend my entire life with LRL that's why I am leaving. Because of Zanjeer Amitabh become a star, but he did not continue playing the character. I think one year is more than enough. For me the journey of LRL is over. Every episode is memorable for me and I will miss my director Anshumanji, spot boys and co-stars."

Gazal Rai (Pooja) adds, "It was a really nice journey. I have learnt many things and have turned a year older! I came to know how the industry functions. I was literally a child when I entered and was protected by my friends and family. But after doing this show I have come to know facts about the real world. On July 10 we had cut a cake but unfortunately only I, Rajeev and Abhimanyu were present.

I have so many youth fans and they have started talking to me in mobile language. Whenever I go out, they talk to me exactly like I talk to everyone in the show. So now they have accepted my character and can connect to me. I enjoy working with Ali and Yudi."

Vikas Manaktala (Huda) says, "It is a very challenging character and I was really looking forward to it. I have learnt many things from my mistakes. I love action scenes so it helped me to polish that.

After I became popular one girl used to come to my house and stay outside for the whole day. It became tough for me so I had to call for help. Then my security guard kicked her away from there. She was quite obsessed and it was hard to handle that matter."

Left Right Left completed a year on July 10. It had taken a season's break during the cricket World Cup. Rajeev won the Best Actor award for the show. The team of LRL is going to organise a party next month.

Quit pro Quo

... Scream the headlines, everytime Rajeev Khandelwal turns his back on a successful character. Not that it bothers the actor who's eyeing the big screen now...
Rajeev Khandelwal is in news again. But this time round, it has nothing to do with the two women - Aamna Shariff and Ekta Kapoor - in his life, but his career moves. To cut a long story short, Rajeev has quit yet another tele-serial , hot on the heels of his exit from Kahiin To Hoga , the serial that made him and his character , Sujal, such a rage. He seems to have quite a penchant for such stuff!
"Yes, it's true. I will not be seen in the serial (where he plays an armyman ) anymore, but I haven't quit the show. It's just that my role is coming to an end," he defends, in a tte--tte with Lucknow Times during a recent visit to the city. But if truth be spoken, Rajeev isn't content being the SRK of the tele world.
This man dreams of making it big where it matters - in Bollywood - and he has no qualms in admitting that. "Talks are on with some Bollywood directors , if everything goes well, I will soon be seen on the big screen. As of now I don't have any project in hand. And I'm in no hurry either. For me, content is king, I can't do just anything that comes my way," he says, setting the record straight. Perhaps that's the reason he keeps flirting with Lady Luck, pushing it every single time? Remember he quit KTH just like that! "The reason I opted out of KTH was because my character was being dragged too much. It was a shame for me - people were getting addicted to Sujal. I want my fans to be fond of me, not addicted to me," comes the repartee . Modest, aren't we?

He further adds, "I don't even want to go back to those daily saas bahu soaps ever again. Moreover, I want to do 10 different characters in 10 years, rather

than the same one for 10 years. My colleagues don't have the guts to call it quits." Little wonder he's out of work now, is it? And what does he have to say about his 'SRK of the small screen' tag? Rajeev blushes, "I don't know why people call me that. Please don't call me SRK, I'm only RK." But the accolades don't end there.
The dude has also been titled the Best Male Style Icon by a popular music channel, much to his surprise. "I don't really have any sense of dressing. I also don't wish to set any trends," he quips. Known for his onscreen chemistry with co-star Aamna Shariff, he doesn't hesitate in agreeing that their real life chemistry is "not that bad." "Although I haven't met Aamna for the past few months, we still love each other . The moment we will see each other, we will know exactly what the other has to say. We are tuned into each other's emotions," he admits unabashed.

Nevertheless, Rajeev shies away from negative publicity: "Negative publicity can be bread and butter for Rakhi Sawant, but it will hardly help my career ," comes the caustic comment.

Quite the man if you want quotable quotes, isn't he?
