27 May - Hanumant Bhansali 04:18 pm

Left Right Left, which is telecasted on SAB TV has received a good response. People have even started calling Rajeev as Captain Rajveer.

Rajeev says, "It is a good transition from being called Sujal. It goes on to show that people are accepting me in all my characters."

About the serial he says, "The world is living on hope and so am I. I cannot say what is going to happen in the next few months, but I think that it will do well. I have received an award for this serial which I had not for the other serials in bigger channels."

My link-up story was shocking: Priyanka Bassi

Beginning her career with 'Left Right Left', Priyanka 'Naina' Bassi has proved herself as an actress in the television industry. It is now going to be almost a year with the show and thus we decided to speak to Priyanka Bassi for her views, plans and new news regarding her. Here is an excerpt.

Q: How does it feel after about a year with the show?
A: It is a great feeling and I love playing my character. I'm lucky that I'm associated with 'LRL' and really thankful to Tony and Diya Singh for coming up with a show like this. The concept is so new and the characters are all so well etched out.

Q: Did you expect the same response when you had joined the show?
A: There was a bit of little nervousness initially, but there was always a feeling inside me that it would do well. The show has a brilliant concept, filled with youthfulness and it has created its niche. What is even better is that even the older generations are identifying with it. It feels great when the grand parents come up to me and say that we want a grandchild like Naina.

Q: How much do you identify with the character?
A: I identify a lot with Naina, except for the fact that Priyanka is not as physically strong as Naina. Naina does not think once before climbing a tree, but Priyanya will think a hundred times before climbing a tree and fear falling down from it. Unlike Priyanka, Naina also has many shades and is vulnerable. Otherwise we are quite similar.

Q: How has your journey been so far?
A: It has been a brilliant journey so far. I have got good co-stars and a good learning experience.

Q: Any particular incident that you recall?
A: Yes, I remember the sequence when I had to hang upside down a tree and do the shots. It took around five hours for the sequence to complete. But all the co-actors appreciated me for the performance and it did come out pretty good. I used to climb the tree and then they used to suspend me with the help of a harness.

It was tough, but I took it as a challenge. Blood had clotted on my head and so I had to take a leave the next day.

Q: How comfortable are you playing Naina, an Army girl?
A: Playing Naina has become my habit now, but Naina an Army girl is a little tough for me. I was a girl who used to think so much about her skin and the way she carries herself, but now I'm no longer like that. You will always find me with wounds and bruises and a tanned skin. But I really like playing my character.

Q: How is your rapport with your co-stars? Are you missing Shveta Salve?
A: We are all young so there is a very good rapport among us. There is always something or the other happening on the sets. We really have a good time. I'm happy that I have got to work with such good people. I'm missing Shveta a lot. She is such a good actress and whenever I was sitting with her she used to keep giving me tips, as she has been in this filed for some time now.

Q: It seems that a love track is going to start between your and Gaurav Chopraa's characters?
A: No, it cannot be called a love track, but Naina does feel for Gaurav because after Rajeev, he is the only one who she can confide in and is comfortable with. Also because Gaurav's character was close to Naveen, she finds him trustworthy.

Q: How long is it going to take for you to solve all the mysteries?
A: (Laughs) I really do not know what is going to happen and how long is it going to take. But that is keeping the show going.

Q: What about Huda?
A: (Laughs again) I do not know that too. He is just like his onscreen image, but the intense part of Vikas has not yet been shown in Huda yet.

Q: According to you, what are the changes that have happened to 'LRL' post the break?
A: Well, post the break, all the six of will have better etched out characters and our individual stories will begin. Now, you are going to see as to what each one of them wants to attain in life and if they are successful in that.

Q: Have you received any other offers?
A: (Laughs) I have received a lot of offers, but Naina is keeping me going and excited so I am not signing anything as of now.

Q: You have been linked up with your co-stars. Do you think people are misinterpreting your friendly nature?
A: (Laughs) Yes, it is true that of late I have been linked with my co-star and it was shocking for me to read the first such article written about me. I was worried that my parents would question me.

But then, I had a talk with them and they have also understood that it is a part and parcel of the game. Any young pretty girl working in the industry without men around her, people are going to write about her. I'm lucky that I have such good co-stars as friends. I have learnt to laugh over such matters. - Mili Swarnakar

Rajiv Khandelwal confirms exit from Left Right Left

Rajiv Khandelwal (Captain Rajveer of Left Right Left) has confirmed his exit from Left Right Left and termed the production house's version that he is not leaving the show as an old gimmick to give publicity to the serial.

"I'm not leaving the show, but my track is getting over soon. I do not have any problem with production house. I am on holiday right now and when I come back, I will see what to do with it. DJ's are very good and I do not want to take panga with them. In fact, I want work with them for 20 years."

When asked how long his track will last, the actor replied, "I need to rejoin the shoot for some more episodes. I think it will be just 15 days."

However Persis, executive producer of the show, had a completely different version. "I haven't heard the news. He is on a 10-day holiday and will be rejoining the shoot again."

She denied that there was any tension between Rajiv and Gaurav Chopra or production house. "He has been working with us for more than a year and it is always pleasure working with him. He is very professional and I do not know anything about this news."

"He will restart shooting from 1 June. There will be some fun and twists in the show. Further, there will be more entries in the show. But it will take time to develop the story," she added.

Sukesh Motwani, scriptwriter of the show also had something similar to say. "He is not leaving the show as far as my knowledge. He has just gone to Ladakh for leave. But we were having bank of episodes. So we didn't face any problem and now he will be rejoining shoot soon. There are no conflicts between Gaurav and Rajiv. Gaurav's entry is there just to add masala to the show. They are very good friends and, in show as well, they will soon become pals."

Meet the new agony uncle in town

He plays agony uncle to his friends and counsels them on relationships. Well, Gaurav Chopraa can go on and on on his pet topic — relationships. "I have always believed that there are three people in a relationship – you, the person you love and the relationship," says Gaurav. "The bond is like your kid. You may want your child to grow up and become a doctor or an engineer. However, this kid might think differently and become an artist. The same funda applies in a relationship. It is like working towards an unknown goal. It is not certain that you will have a great tomorrow as sometimes the relationship grows into something else." There's more to him than just being sexy, he is also good at giving you a lot of gyaan. You have all the qualities to be a good agony uncle, Gaurav!

    Jungle mein mangal
    By: Vickey Lalwani

VALLEY VIEW: Kavita Kaushik, Rajeev Khandelwal and Deepraj Rana

Kavita Kaushik (CID), Rajeev Khandelwal (Left Right Left), Natassha Rana (Betiyann) and her husband Deepraj Rana (Left Right Left) recently participated in the Nautica Jungle Rally in the northern hills of India — and she still hasn't gotten over it.

Says Kavita, "Nautica gave us a list and asked us to choose whom we would prefer as partners. Natassha is a close friend and I knew Rajeev because I had worked with him in CID.

So the four of us teamed up and what a maseladar experience it was! We had to not only race but also participate in river-rafting and bungee jumping."

    Hugely entertaining

Kavita & Co did not win the rally but were awarded The Most Entertaining Team! "There were certain things that only happened to us. While river rafting, our raft collided with a huge rock and turned turtle.

We fell into the water and I started screaming. The raft instructor then pulled me and threw me onto the raft and I landed between two cylindrical tubes and got trapped as I was wearing a huge life jacket!" Kavita says.

"Another time, Natassha and I went for a drive when Rajeev and Deepraj were having lunch. Natassha was at the wheel and she lost balance and we nearly went down a cliff," Kavita adds.

"During the night drive, Natassha and I had to walk a long distance away from the car if we wanted to answer nature's call. I think we all became akin to jungle people in those five days.

There was no phone, no computers and no properly cooked food. One needs to rough it out in the wilderness some times to experience a different sort of life," Kavita concludes.

    TV ka hot male kaun?

While India's soap queen Ektaa Kapoor thinks Ram Kapoor is the hottest man on TV today, KT ask other leading ladies of telly to discover other men of small screen.
Women might be the lead protagonists on most telly soaps and their audience might also comprise women big time, yet male actors have their own fanfollowing and among leading ladies as well.
As the queen of daily soaps Ektaa Kapoor has said in an interview that films are for men and daily soaps are for women. So, men on small screen are hotter. Well, KT speaks with leading ladies on the telly to find out who are the hotmale on small screen and why. Though Ektaa was quick to name Ram Kapoor as the hottest male on TV today, the question puts Sangeeta Ghosh - of Desh mein nikala hoga chand and Viraasat fame - in thinking mode, before she maintains, "there isn't an actor who's actually hot." But she adds, "There are some good looking actors though, like Shabbir Ahluwalia, Rohit Roy and even Kiran Kumar. They are good looking but they look even better on screen as their persona is improved before appearing on TV. Actually, all the actors who work with me are good looking!"
Mandira Bedi is another actress \anchor who finds it difficult to pick a name. "I don't find any male TV actor hot," she chuckles and adds, "I can say there are good looking actors but I can't think of hot looking men on small screen." So who are those good looking men? "Rajiv Khandelwal," she replies, "but again I'm talking about on screen appearance as I haven't seen him off screen."
However, for a change anchoractress Roshni Chopra seen in Kasam Se is rather quick in replying. "Rohit Roy, Iqbal Khan and Ram Kapoor are certainly among the hot men of small screen today. These actors have charisma that exudes on as well as off screen," quips Roshni. Actor Neha Mehta of Mamta fame is also quite clear about her choices as she says, "I find Rohit Roy hot on as well as off screen. He acting prowess coupled with great looks and a good voice, makes him very impressive. Besides him, my co-star Anand Suryavanshi and Rajiv Khandelwal are also hot."

Interestingly, Achint Kaur, seen in Virruddh and Karam Apna Apna, doesn't find any male actors hot enough to mention. "But that's because my definition of being hot is not just great looks. Rather, it is more about intelligence. And unfortunately I have actually not found anyone intelligent enough," she shares, as Shveta Salve of Left Right Left fame, seconds her thought. "Frankly, none of the male actors fit the bill of being hot. There is not just one thing that makes you hot. But it also about having a great personality , great style, good voice and accent, right aptitude, confidence and most importantly grey cells that become matter of envy for others," opines Shveta.

Well, it's dil maange more for some ladies!

'I am in no hurry to join films'
    12 Jun, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlPRIYANKA SRIVASTAVA /TIMES NEWS NETWORK
Rajeev Khandelwal tells us that he has quit Left Right Left, but has not signed any film...
After ruling the hearts of the television audiences, everyone thought Rajeev Khandelwal would take the next logical step and move onto the big screen. But, Rajeev is in no hurry to jump at any Bollywood offer that comes his way. Says he, "Talks about various projects are on. But, nothing has been finalised as yet." The actor is reportedly quitting the serial Left Right Left to work in films. Rajeev clarifies , "I never ever leave anything for anything else - that's not my style. My role in the LRL is coming to an end. As an actor, I feel that a character should carry on only up to a certain point. There's no point in dragging it on unnecessarily."

Rajeev's co-actor Amna Sharief in the serial Kahin To Hoga, in an interview, had recently said that the two are being cast as the main lead in two films. "Well, I have no clue about this. As I said, talks are on and many producers are considering both of us for their films, but, that's about it."

Remind him how a fan of his called him the 'Shah Rukh Khan of TV' and he laughs, "Well, that's very nice. All I'll say is that I am just very truthful to the profession and not the kind to get carried away easily." Ask him if there's any dream role or a kind of film he'd like to act in and he says, "I'm open to any kind of role, small or big. The only thing is, it should be challenging - a role of substance that any newcomer would dream of."

But, once shootings for films commence, will Rajeev bid adieu to television ? "It's strange that here people are talking about the number of movies I'm doing when I am yet to sign my first film. However, for now, I am happy to continue with television for some more time," he smiles.

"It is always better to leave a character when it is at its' peak." Rajeev Khandelwal

The buzz doing the rounds is that Rajeev's character, Captain Rajvir of Left Right Left, will die soon. This will be the second time that Rajeev is planning to leave a show when his character is at its peak. Previously Rajeev left Kahiin Toh Hoga at the height of his character, Sujal's, popularity.

So what is with his trend of quitting while he's ahead?
Rajeev says: "I don't know but I've always felt that it is better to leave a show when your character is popular and when it is at its peak rather than continuing with it with for seven years! After a long time, people tend to forget your character as with any other daily show. The character should be shelved while it is popular. Endlessly dragging it on is of no use. If this happens then the character vanishes in no time."

Rajeev confirms that his track is going to end soon but he has no clue as to how Captain Rajvir will exit the show. He says, "I am shooting for Left Right Left now but my track is getting over very soon. I don't know how it is going to end. By the first week of July my track will get over. I am sure it will end intelligently and interestingly. The scriptwriters are working on my track now."

Persis, the executive producer of the show says: "We have not finalized how Rajeev's character will end. We are working on the story and his track. We will have meeting with Deeya, Tony, the writers and with the channel about it the next week."

Rajeev will leave behind many fond memories when he leaves Left Right Left:
"I am definitely going to miss the show. So far I have missed all my shows. The makers of every show I have worked with are close to me. Everyday I receive tons of mails from my fans asking me why I am leaving. They say that they want to see me on television."

Does the actor ever regret quitting a serial at the peak of his career there?
"I have not regretted anything I have done so far. I learn everything from what I do and what I have done so far. I am not Aamir Khan or Shah Rukh Khan. They have also learnt things in their own way. Likewise I am learning things in my own way. I want to survive in this industry. I am here to entertain people and of course to make money."

Rajeev will take things as they come after he's done with Left Right Left
"I have not signed anything. I am keen to work with Deeya and Tony but I have not signed any film with them. You might see me playing lawn tennis or in my gym in Goregaon. Or you may see me at the airport going abroad. Though that will happen when I finish visiting places I want to see in India. Whenever I go abroad and meet with Hindi speaking people I feel proud."

Presently, on Left Right Left, Cadet Naina is trying to find out the real reason behind her brother's death. Captain Rajvir killed Naina's brother, Navin, on his own request. The report of his death and the reason as to why Navin told Rajvir to kill him is hidden in a red box with Captain Rajvir.

    'Left Right Left' goes online

Reaching out to the youth is easier said than done. When you talk to the youth of this country, you need to talk their language. It is with this objective in mind that SAB takes its youth cult show 'Left Right Left' (LRL) to a completely new age platform, the Net.

'Left Right Left' has become the first show in the country to launch its own Website. Launched on April 30, 2007, the site has become an immediate hit and already has an astounding 16,00,000 hits, 7,000 posts and over 10,000 registered members or cadets as they choose to calls themselves.

With games, interactive forums, downloads, videos, behind the scenes info, blogs by other directors and lots more, the site is probably the first ever comprehensive Website created for any show by any channel in India. The site has a virtual Kanchanjunga Military academy where you can enroll and become a cadet yourself.

Speaking about the Left Right Left Website, Mr. Manish Hariprasad, AVP Marketing, SAB, said, "Today the youth spends a lot of time on the internet and there can be no better way for their most loved show to reach them. 'LRL' has been a topic of discussion on the internet for long so why not have our own platform. The most encouraging aspect is that we have promoted the site only while the show is on air and have not done any kind of advertising to promote it. We have received a stupendous response and the numbers are growing by the minute only via word of mouth".
