Sujal Rocks!

We're speaking literally. Rajeev Khandelwal to anchor new dance show, Rock 'N' Roll. Mithun Chakraborty will be judge

Dance trance: Rajeev Khandelwal It's the time to disco: Mithun Chakraborty

Zee TV is determined to move to the next level. For this, they're quickly roping in as many high-profile personalities as possible. Their latest profile-enhancing purchase is Mithun Chakraborty and television star Rajeev Khandelwal who'll apparently be hosting a dance contest for ordinary people called Rock 'N' Roll.

The best part of the show is that Mithun Chakraborty, the gyrating 'Disco Dancer', will be judging the dance contest. Rajeev Khandelwal will be anchoring the show. "Nothing has been finalised yet. But yes, we're in talks," says Rajeev.
According to a source, "Rock 'N' Roll is neither like Sony's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa nor like Star One's Nach Baliye. It'll feature ordinary people, housewives and cabbies, who'll have a chance to realise their dreams through the dance competition."

Mobile mayhem!
By: Tushar Joshi
January 11, 2007

Rajeev Khandelwal Aparna Tilak
It was a regular day of shooting on the sets of SAB's Left Right Left.

The actors were filming a scene where Captain Rajveer (Rajeev Khandelwal) gets a call from Dr Shalini (Aparna Tilak).

In order to make the scene look authentic, director Rahiv Siddiqui made Rajeev use his personal mobile number, which flashed on the mobile phone on screen. Within minutes of the episode going on air, the director was flooded with calls and text messages for Rajeev!

Revealing what had happened, Aparna Tilak says, "I didn't realise that within seconds someone could actually take down a mobile number. My director was hounded with calls the next day. A host of girls called him to speak with Rajeev. It was quite funny!"

Bigg plans

Aparna adds that she sat down with her director, read all the messages and even took down the numbers. She says, "It's amazing how people from all over the country are calling and messaging. There were some fans from abroad too who wanted to come and visit our sets. It's always nice to get fan feedback."

Apart from LRL, Aparna also watches Bigg Boss closely and even wants to participate in the next season. "I think it would be interesting if Shveta (Salve) and me get to go together. I think we will have too much masti in the house together!"

Rajesh 'left' out of Left Right Left!

Rajesh Khera, the ultra popular Maddy from Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi and recently seen in Left Right Left as Major Bhargav has left the show and signed a spree of Hindi films of late.

Rajesh Khera: Versatile actor!

The actor gave a farewell party to fifty of the team members from the Sab show only two days back which happened to be the last day of his shoot.

"I had a great time shooting for the show and needless to say it's the best role I've ever played. In fact, I enjoyed playing major Bhargav more than the character Maddy. This is probably because, I always wanted to join the army and Maj Bhargav was this is strict disciplinarian. The character was well received by the viewers and I got along famously with the unit so I decided to throw a farewel cum thanksgiving party," points out Rajesh.

Though Rajesh refused to comment but our sources reveal that the actor wanted a hundred percent hike in his salary which was not well received by the producers. It was probably because of this that , his role was cut short by a few episodes.
Producer Deeya Singh is quick to add "Rajesh's character has got culminated and its was a well positioned and well written thirty episodes character for him."
The actor is now doing four films with established film makers which are all scheduled for a 2007 release.
"I am doing a children's film for Ken Ghosh where I play Hitler (warden of an orphanage) along with Pawan Kaul's Bhram where I have a designers role similar to that of Maddy. Besides, the two mentioned, I am doing a cameo as a hero with shaven head in Sirf and lastly I have a good, positive role where I get to wear happening wigs and designer wear in Victory number 203 which makes for an interesting remake," says Rajesh who's is now also on the look out for interesting roles on television.

Any takers?

Rajesh Khera out of Left Right Left

ROSHNI OLIVERA WARD

Rajesh Khera's very happy with his character, Major Bhargav in Left Right Left on SAB. He can't stop talking about his role, which he says is one of his best till now. But there's another controversy brewing here. Rajesh will soon not be seen in the show. Apparently, he asked for a higher remuneration, which he got. But, that became an issue of contention. Rajesh's character will now be eased out of the show soon.
Ask the actor about it and he promptly says, "There are no issues. On paper this was supposed to be a role that would last for 30 episodes. After 30 episodes I asked for a 100 per cent raise, which I got. My character could have lasted for some more episodes, but probably because I asked for an increase in the money... maybe the budget didn't allow."
But Rajesh would rather talk about the happy times. "I enjoyed myself playing this character. It was fun on the sets. In fact, the other day I had a party for the unit. Everybody from the spotboy to the director has started speaking like Major Bhargav, exactly the way I would deliver the dialogues. That's a high!"
So who did he get along with best? "Rajeev Khandelwal's an amazing guy. He's so committed about his work that it helped me perform better. Some of the other male cadets have a long way to go because they seem to be focussing more on their stud appearance than on their acting! Of course I'm referring to just two of them. But I won't give out any names," he laughs.

Naina Was A challenge For me - Priyanka Bassi the New babe in Rajeev Khandelwal's Life....reveals it all
Who: Delhi girl Priyanka Bassi came to Mumbai two years ago to try her hand at acting.
Claim to fame: I made my debut in Bomaby Talking, Zee Caf's first Indian English soap on the goings-on of the glamour industry. But I got noticed as Naina, a cadet with a past, in Deeya and Tony Singh's Left Right Left. Besides, Bombay Talking had limited viewership.
Flashback: I have trained with Barry John in theatre. I have learnt Kathak too.
An actress prepares: Initially I thought it would be tough to pull off the stunts with the aggression that was required of Naina. But later, I took it on as a challenge and now I'm enjoying every bit of it.
The plot thickens: Recently, there were reports that I'd shot a romantic sequence in mud with Rajeev Khandelwal who plays the captain. It was quite an experience to shoot in mud. It reminded me of the popular scene from Mother India.
Scene and heard: Once, I was required to hang upside down for a long time as part of my military punishment in the script. Have I ever been punished in school? Well, I have stood outside the classroom for giggling in class but nothing really serious. I was the prankster of my group but intelligent at the same time.
Future plans: I am shooting 26 days in a month for Left Right Left. I miss my spa treatments because I love to pamper

Aaj ka Arjun
Ansy Austin
Friday, January 12, 2007 21:02 IST

The actor on his career marching ahead 'Left Right Left'

For someone who began his acting career by borrowing money to shoot his portfolio, it's been a successful journey. Arjun Bijlani who plays Alekh in 'Left Right Left' ('LRL') on SAB gets candid...

Unusual start
"My dad had said a strict 'no' to acting. So I had to borrow money from a friend to get my portfolio done. But I was able to return the money in 15 days thanks to the number of offers that started pouring in," says Arjun.

Big time bonding
"'LRL' is like my baby. I have been working on the show since almost nine months. We all have grown very close to each other. We go out together, eat together, the bonding is amazing. I'm very close to Vikas Mankatala(Huda) and Priyanka Bassi (Naina)," says Arjun.

Tell tale
He recollects a funny incident saying, "During one of the shoots Vikas broke an egg on Harshad Chopra's (Ali) head. It was really funny considering that Harshad is a vegetarian. His expression was worth seeing then."

He adds, "Rajeev (Khandelwal) is a wonderful guy, always joking and having fun. We look up to him as a senior. Shweta (Salve) is more like a friend," Arjun asserts.

Alekh vs Arjun
Arjun talks about Alekh, the character he plays almost 25 days a month. "I've been living it. The Bombaiya language that Alekh speaks is something that I've got accustomed to," he says. He adds, "Some days back I came home and said 'Mummy apun ko khana de!'. My mom was shocked."

However, Arjun is very different from the character he portrays, "I'm a happy go lucky guy. In fact, now my character Alekh, who was initially serious, has started having fun in his own way in the show."

Fanfare
Arjun enjoys his fan following. He says, "There is this fan from Darjeeling who dedicatedly follows 'LRL'. She mails and messages me about the show. I've even had fans messaging me from Denmark.

They download the show from the internet." Ask him about his personal life and he quips, "Work doesn't give time for a girlfriend."

Telly stars discuss Kama Sutra

We belong to a land that has one of the richest history of art and culture. Our ancestors always encouraged creativity in all aspects of life. In fact, we're home to some of the most fascinating concepts and texts in the world. One of them being Vatsyayana's 'Kama Sutra, the ancient Indian text on human sexual behaviour.

But look at the irony of our times; on one hand we write about sexuality in its most sophisticated form while on the other our culture considers 'sex' as the biggest taboo. This socio-cultural debate is our chosen topic this time and we get television celebrities talking about this apparent hypocrisy.

Ruhail Amin gets some reactions of TV celebs on why this book known for its scientific approach to human desire is not being appreciated in its place of birth.

Shweta Salve

Though, I haven't read the book, but I guess the reason for Kamasutra being a taboo is our hypocrisy. We're not ready to accept our sexuality openly as it is considered a breach of decency.

Rajeev's ultimatum to his producers!

Thursday, January 18, 2007 19:18 IST

The actor talks on 'Left Right Left' turning stagnant and his relationship with Aamna Sharief

This is one television actor with oodles of self-confidence. A source from the serial 'Left Right Left' (SAB) reveals that Rajiv Khandelwal has given the producers of the show (Deeya and Tony Singh)a time limit to perk up their serial.

"Not only has Rajiv given them a time frame to improve their act, he has also set himself a stipulated span to feel stimulated by the improvements. If he still feels disinclined, then the actor says that he would pull out of the serial," says the source.

The source elaborates, "In fact,Rajiv was petrified that he'd once again be accused of being high-handedness.So he himself declared he would be leaving the serial before anyone else got to know about it. But the fact is that he has given the producers time to pull up their socks. If the quality improves he stays on. Otherwise he leaves."

This isn't the first time that Rajiv has dared to give up a thriving soap. "Two years ago he had opted out of Ektaa Kapoor's 'Kahiin to Hoga' at the peak of his popularity. Unlike many other popular protagonists who allow a soap to drag on because they do not wish to give up what is going on comfortably, Rajiv has dared to defy success once before. He's ready to do it yet again," says the source.

Rajiv seems well clued in to his needs as an actor. "I've to do what feels right for me. I can't be put in a state of stagnancy just because there's a good thing going," says Rajeev.

As for his much-discussed relationship with actor Aamna Sharief, he says, "People brought us together, then they broke us apart. We remain the way we were—the best of friends. If we haven't been seen together lately it's only because we're both busy with our lives."

Endemol's bash; a riot of glitterati!
It was an affair in extravaganza! Global Television format creator Endemol India's anniversary bash witnessed a riot of glitterati that one rarely gets to see these days.
The party held at Olive Bar in South Mumbai had celebrities trickling down from all walks of life and not just the TV world. And of course, not to forget the huge journo brigade that kept the guests busy all the while. Some of the first ones to land were Randhir Kapoor and Daler Mehendi, who were joined by Lara Dutta and Kelly Dorji. Dressed in their stylish selves, they made a quick exit though not without chatting away with select friends. While the food and wine flowed so did the conversations.
Rajeev Khandelwal (who made a rare entry) and Gaurav Chopra bonded in a corner while Rohit Roy along with wifey Mansi Joshi Roy did the rounds of the venue to catch up with friends. While Rajeev looked chiseled in his red hot jacket, Varun Badola was in his trademark disheveled self.
Deepak Parashar, straight out from a news studio where he made comments on Shilpa Shetty affair, carried the hangover to the venue too. Dressed up in absolute formals with lenses that made him look like a news host he kept the fodder supply going for the cameras. Deepak was also seen chatting with Anupama Verma and of course dragged Rajeev every time to make sure the shutterbugs cover him Bobby Darling's attempt to woo people with her small dress didn't attract much attention. She made sure that the cameras did so by chatting away all relevant and irrelevant subjects.
Comedy king Raju Srivastava, seemed unwelcome at the occasion. Though he happily kept giving sound bytes, somehow he looked a bit out of place at the bash. Also spotted were sporting buddies Ajay Jadega, Mandira Bedi and Ashish Nehra, who looked lost in an animated discussion around cricket. Later Ronit Roy walked in along with Sanjit Bedi, and headed straight to the bar.
Some of the producers who were spotted at the party were Shristhi Behl, Abhimanyu Singh amongst others. The head honcho class kept a safe distance from the rest of the crowd. Star India CEO Sameer Nair who walked in late was seen surrounded by a host of people chatting him up. Also adding grace to the event was none other than Shatrughan Sinha who kept wife Poonam company along with their daughter.
As the drinks flowed and evening progressed more celebrities kept trickling in. Arshad Warsi and Maria, Mini Mathur and Sandiip Sikcand walked in post midnight. Arshad who was dressed up in all denims looked like his circuit self, we mean bindaas. Not only did he attract a lot of attention but even generated one-liners like, "talk about my jacket, who's Shilpa" to appease the lighter side.
A short film depicting the achievements of Endemol was another highlight of the occasion. Endemol has designs to play big games in the immediate future, that's what a deep baritone voice was announcing on screens. The message was clear; the bash was not just to celebrate the production house's anniversary but also an affair to build loyalty.
