If this article has been posted earlier then plz do forgive me and if not den do read it...I got it from d site of Hindustan times..'Naina was a challenge for me'

Who: Delhi girl Priyanka Bassi came to Mumbai two years ago to try her hand at acting.

Claim to fame: I made my debut in Bombay Talking, Zee Caf and #233;'s first Indian English soap on the goings-on of the glamour industry. But I got noticed as Naina, a cadet with a past, in Deeya and Tony Singh's Left Right Left. Besides, Bombay Talking had limited viewership.

Flashback: I have trained with Barry John in theatre. I have learnt Kathak too.
An actress prepares: Initially I thought it would be tough to pull off the stunts with the aggression that was required of Naina. But later, I took it on as a challenge and now I'm enjoying every bit of it.

The plot thickens: Recently, there were reports that I'd shot a romantic sequence in mud with Rajeev Khandelwal who plays the captain. It was quite an experience to shoot in mud. It reminded me of the popular scene from Mother India.

Scene and heard: Once, I was required to hang upside down for a long time as part of my military punishment in the script. Have I ever been punished in school? Well, I have stood outside the classroom for giggling in class but nothing really serious. I was the prankster of my group but intelligent at the same time.
Future plans: I am shooting 26 days in a month for Left Right Left. I miss my spa treatments because I love to pamper myself.

Deeya and Tony Singh, the producers of Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Jab
Love Hua and Left Right Left are ready with their new show Jeeten Hain
Jiske Liye.

Starting next week on Sony, the show is based on a Spanish
tele-novella. "We have taken just the essence of the story and
narrated it the way we understand it," she says." The show marks the
return of Renuka Shahane to television after five years. She features
as Anjali, an orphan but a strong woman. Wronged by the family she's
married into, circumstances separate her from her children, with whom
she reunites after 20 years.

Says Singh, "A story on a mother may be the most clichd thing to do,
but the best way to tell it is from the heart. Jeete does n't start as
a teenybopper love story or a romance gone wrong. It's about what the
woman, a mother has gone through. For me to make a show, there has to
be something special about it. Anjali makes me feel special." Isn't
Jeete more like a family drama? "It's all about how you treat it. A
love story can be soft and sweet, harsh, a thriller, mushy or maybe
with some black humour. I can't define the take on our show as yet.
The fun is the challenge because Jeete is not like Jassi or Jab Love
Hua or LRL,"Singh remarks.

On casting Shahane, she says, "Renuka embodies everything I look for
in a mother. I may be a working woman but I live for my family, my
children and almost every mother does that. Renuka also has a sense of
humour, She's mature and positive.

"It was difficult to persuade her to do it possibly because even she
was leaving her young children behind to be part of our madness but
somewhere, I guess she must have realised it was worth her while. We
will make sure of that." In terms of ratings, Jab Love Hua is not
faring a well as Kasamh Se or a Saat Phere? "I look at it this way.
Our show is an aberration, which is still around. I don't have a
heroine like others do. Unlike producers who sweep ratings, we sweep
hearts. I am not on test anymore. I have nothing to prove to anybody,"
she says.

Recently, Left Right Left star Rajeev Khandelwal expressed his
dissatisfaction over the script. "I am not here to satisfy anybody. As
a maker, I also experience dissatisfaction sometimes.
Self-satisfaction is an esoteric term. I enjoyed working with him
because he is hard working. But he can't complain that our script is
bad, given the amount of quality writing we do," Singh says.

Aparna Tilak turns into a Marathi mulgi!

The perky and compassionate Aparna Tilak, who plays Dr.Shalini in Left Right Left on SAB Tv, has bagged a new serial, but not in Hindi. It's a Marathi serial for ZEE Alpha and the actor is quite gung-ho about it as she relates her experiences, "People are so prejudiced that they ask in surprise, 'you are doing a Marathi serial?' I wonder why this attitude towards regional channels. But I am proud to admit Yes, I am."

Aparna Tilak turns into a Marathi mulgi!

But the surprise lies in her casting as Aparna recounts the incident, "I was called for the audition mistaking me to be a Maharashtrian by birth.

I got through the audition with flying colours since I am good at speaking Marathi. But when the production house discovered I am a Bengali married to a Maharashtrian, their astonishment could not be contained. Nevertheless, I bagged the role in the daily Marathi soap 'Asambhav'.

But now Aparna prays for an extra half-an-hour to God for according to her, "Delivering dialogues with the right expressions are quite different from normal conversations in the language. Taking up a role is a commitment and I don't want to fall short at any time. I am reading Marathi papers, improving my diction and contemplating attending classes."

Elaborating on the story she says, "It's no saas-bahu rono-dhona. It's a family drama with an awesome twist and people watching it from the beginning will feel something is amiss in the serial. And there lies the catch!"

Her husband Dr.Amod is thrilled to bits about it as she puts it, "After teaching me medicine for my doctor's role in LRL, he is now my tuition teacher!"

Please cut the attitude, Huda

Co-actors of Left Right Left are upset with Vikas Manaktala aka Huda

Back to Section Stories

Ranjib Mazumder

Vikas Manaktala
Vikas Manaktala aka Huda in Left Right Left, the new blue eyed boy in producer Tony and Deeya Singh's camp is apparently giving a tough time to his co-actors and everybody else in the production team.

Says an actor on condition of anonymity, "Initially, Vikas was quite polite in his behaviour. But, with each passing day, he is getting worse. He thinks he's a big star now."

Says another actor on condition of anonymity, "Vikas creates a lot of problem on the sets. He wants a separate make-up room for him and always comes late on the sets. He fights with spot boys too. He keeps shouting at the spot boys if they are little late. Surprisingly, the production house is always very supportive of him."

When contacted, Tony Singh said, "We are very happy with Vikas's performance. He is a talented actor and is here to stay."

Vikas, when contacted, found the allegations amusing. He said, "I have always been punctual on the sets. And if my co-actors have any issue with me, they should come and talk to me."

Some even got into the 'action' themselves! Professional hazard, we think. Say the word 'action' and suddenly everyone's scrambling to get noticed! Tee hee.

Birthday blues

Sanjeev Mehra's supposed farewell party on the sets of Left Right Left turned out to be a surprise welcome bash instead

Back to Section Stories

Ranjib Mazumder

A still from Left Right Left
Sanjeev Mehra (Surijee of Left Right Left) is well-known for bringing an amiable atmosphere on the sets of the show. Thanks to Sanjeev, the frequent fights on the sets of LRL stopped after he started having barbeque parties while shooting so that the unit members could have a good time while working together. As a token of thanks, the unit members decided to pull a prank on him.

According to the prank, the director of LRL, Anshuman Singh suddenly informed Sanjeev that his track was going to end. Sanjeev was upset as he was not informed beforehand and tried to reason with the production members. Sanjeev was dejected and decided to leave for Australia where he runs a restaurant.

Says Sanjeev, "I was shooting an action sequence where I had to be beaten by some hooligans. But, suddenly Anshuman told me that my character would be stabbed and dies in a pool of blood. I was initially okay with the concept as I assumed that the story might be taking a different turn. But after I finished the scene, the director told me that my track has ended there. My hopes were completely shattered."

The unit members then told Sanjeev that they will give him a farewell party on his birthday on January 31.

But, the result was something different. Sanjeev explains, "I reached the sets for my farewell party. That's when I realised that the crew members had pulled a prank. They all wanted to give me a big surprise and I was pleasantly surprised to know that I am very much a part of the show."

Rajeev to do a Rajesh Khanna

Because the TV actor reminds him of the superstar, Tony Singh wants to make a romantic film with Rajeev

Producer-director Tony Singh ('Left Right Left' on SAB) is so impressed with his lead actor Rajeev Khandelwal's "sense of commitment and dedication" that he has plans to make a full-fledged feature film with him .

In fact, Tony even invited Rajeev as a special guest, besides his protge Mona (Jassi) Singh, for the party to mark the telecast of the premiere episode of his show 'Jeete Hain Jiske Liye' (Sony). The show has Renuka Shahane staging her comeback after a hiatus.

Tony said, "I plan to make a romantic thriller with Rajeev. Every time I watch him performing his romantic scenes I am reminded of the legendary superstar Rajesh Khanna."

Refuting reports that Rajeev is a 'fussy, tantrum-prone actor', who was soon poised to walk out from 'LRL' as he was dissatisfied with his role, Tony said, "On the contrary, he is so involved with his character that he shoots extra hours and was even willing to reduce his fees, if the show was going over-budget.

Being a serious actor who prefers a logical undercurrent in his scenes, Rajeev's commanding presence on the sets keeps everyone on their toes."

He added, "We are completing 125 episodes of 'LRL' shortly and there is no reason for Rajeev to quit the show." Meanwhile Rajeev seems excited with the film offer.

"Why not? I am game to work in a movie directed by Tony because I share a personal bonding with him," says Rajeev.
