Cellphones are being stolen left, right, left on this set

Ten-odd mobile phones have been stolen from the sets of Left Right Left, in three months

Sapana Patil Poojary

The cast of Left Right Left is busy dealing with the problem of mobile phones being stolen on the sets. With nearly ten phones being stolen in the last three months, the actors are irked and increasingly worried about the safety of their belongings.

Arjun Bijlani who plays Alekh is one of the actors whose phone was stolen. An irritated Arjun says, "I lost my phone (Nokia 7610 which costs almost Rs 20,000) a few days back and what is surprising is that it was stolen from my make-up room. I generally hand over my phone to my make-up man while shooting. That day I left my phone in the make-up room and was shocked to find my phone missing when I returned. I am not the only one whose phone was stolen. Vikas Manaktala's (Huda) and Priyanka Bassi's (Naina) phones were also stolen."

Sanjeev Mehra who plays Suriji also lost his phone on the sets. He says, "I lost my Nokia 3230. I got irritated and reported the theft to the police, who came to the sets to investigate. But they couldn't nab the thief. The idea of calling the police was not to recover my lost phone but to identify the thief and prevent such incidents from being repeated. We have not only lost our phones but also important data that was saved on our handsets."

Although Arjun doesn't want to blame anyone, Sanjeev is sure that a unit member is responsible for these thefts. "But we are not sure who it is as there are many members on the sets, some from the production house, others from the studio," says Sanjeev.

Arjun adds, "Several serials are shot in Chithrarth studios at Powai and one can't be sure of who comes on our sets."

When producers Deeya and Tony Singh were informed about the thefts, they arranged lockers for the actors. When contacted, Deeya Singh refrained from comment.

Meddlesome Rajeev irks colleagues

The unit of Left Right Left is irritated by Rajeev Khandelwal's interfering attitude on the sets

Sapana Patil Poojary

Known for his interfering ways, Rajeev Khandelwal aka Captain Rajveer of Left Right Left has already earned a reputation of being one of the most difficult persons to deal with on the sets. Apparently, Rajeev needs to be convinced about every scene before a shot is taken.

A source on the sets says, "Be it dialogue, the script or editing, Rajeev likes to have it his way. Perhaps he has forgotten that he was thrown out of Kahiin To Hoga for his meddlesome attitude."

When contacted, director Anshuman Singh admits Rajeev having a tendency to question the logic of every scene. He says, "These days, most actors are in the habit of questioning the directors. Even Rajeev comes up with his queries whenever he is in doubt. However, I remember when I joined Left Right Left as the director; I was told that it is difficult to work with Rajeev. So I was prepared for it."

Another source on the sets adds, "Rajeev puts his foot down when he doesn't like something. He is a perfectionist. But in a daily serial, when the unit has to deliver a certain number of scenes, convincing the actors often becomes a draining exercise."

Apparently Rajeev considers himself accountable for the success of the show.

Singh says, "Rajeev is undoubtedly a hard-working actor. But an actor cannot be held responsible for success or failure for any show. It has to be supported by a good script and good direction."
When contacted Rajeev, maintained that he prefers to understand every scene beforehand, which helps him deliver a good performance. He says, "How can I act if I am not convinced about the scene? I believe there is nothing wrong in asking for an explanation. I just can't do a scene because I am being paid for it…"

One-year leap: Rajeev Khandelwal

Thirty won

Rajeev Khandelwal turns 30 today, brings in birthday with a quiet dinner with 'best friend' Aamna Shariff

Subhash K Jha

For Rajeev 30 isn't just a number. He's feeling more responsible on his birthday today. "I realise I'm entering a whole new phase in my life. The time for fun and games is over. I need to take serious career decisions. Perhaps I will pursue my aspirations on the big screen more seriously, give more time to myself."

Marriage plans? Rajeev chuckles, "Are you kidding? As of now, I can't even think of marriage. I'm too selfish a person to entertain a spouse in my private space. Most people are hugely selfish. I'm honest enough to admit it. My private space is my tomb of meditation. I can't have anyone else entering it."

In the same breath Rajeev admits he brought in his birthday last night with his "best friend" Aamna Shariff. "Of course! That's the way she wanted it…and I wanted it too. We wanted to be together for my birthday. But that doesn't mean we're romantically involved. She's my best friend. And best friends seldom become marriage partners."

Besides dinner with the beautiful Ms Shariff, Rajeev got another unexpected gift for his birthday.

At the MTV Lycra awards on Saturday night Rajeev won the award for the Most Stylish Host. "That came as a very pleasant surprise because the game shows Deal Ya No Deal which I hosted on Sony closed down. The fact that I was noticed on a show that wasn't so successful makes me happy. What makes me happier is that I was accused of being high-handed and arrogant during the show. I feel I've been vindicated. "

Rajeev will spend the entire day today interacting with fans who wish to greet him on his birthday. A certain television channel has opened up a phone line just for the day. "I'll be on the phone talking to my fans who want to talk to me on my birthday. I can't think of a better way of bringing in my birthday," he says.

'I can't express my emotions for money'

He remains the heartthrob of the small screen. Rajeev Khandelwal continues to make an impact despite the tag of a thinking actor. He steers clear of making any controversial media comments, yet, every move of his makes headlines.

The route to acting

Destiny has guided me. I tried hard to sell a documentary I had made. No one seemed to give the project a second look but in the process, many gave me the first look and I ended up doing ads and serials for DD.

Life after 'Kahiin Toh Hoga'

Unbelievably great! More than the career, I have grown as a person and as an actor. I was told that people forget you when you leave a hit show. I never wanted to become a star. I was living the character Sujal and was not prepared to corrupt it or accept all the adulation with dishonesty. I do not regret the decision and left it solely on grounds that I strongly believed in and not because of any ego. Failures and success is destiny and I was prepared to start from scratch. I am happy and proud that I took a step. My biggest achievement in this industry is to survive. I feel fortunate in getting roles in 'Time bomb', 'CID' and 'Left Right Left'.

My fans

I am not the most talented actor but I feel secure due to the love of my fans. My birthday is a thanksgiving day for me and I interact directly with my fans. I do not celebrate or throw parties.

Films

I am open to work with all producers who offer me scripts with good content, be it UTV or Balaji. I am here to work not fight. The last two years, films have been looking at me but now I am looking at films! I wanted to gauge my potential when I joined TV. Now, I feel more confident and want to see my emotions on the big screen. I am looking at a project where I want to be a part of it and not because the producer wants me in it.

Reality shows

I was asked to host 'Fame Gurukul', 'Fear Factor' and also 'Jhalak..'. But I felt I was too junior to comment on my seniors. And a reality show is out as I can't express my emotions for money. They just want to exploit my emotions and I am not comfortable with cameras following me in my personal life.

Awards

This year, I was surprised to be nominated in two categories for the MTV Style Awards. One is for being the most stylish actor in 'Left..' and another for the most stylish host in 'Deal..'. For me, 'Left …' was a gamble as it was on a smaller channel. It is just 40 episodes old and its concept is different. I feel honoured to be recognised for my role in it.

The way I am

I am easy and yet can be difficult. I like simplicity. I have evolved but not become tough. I am very emotional yet have learned to overlook certain things. I am an outdoor person, love adventure sports, travel. I'm a people's person. I love to cook, shop for vegetables. I am a typical next door mamma's boy. I like changes in life as I am restless. I believe in myself, popularity and criticisms will come and go.

don't take what people say seriously...
By: Vickey Lalwani
October 19, 2006

Ekta Kapoor
What are your plans for Diwali?
This time, Diwali coincides with Shani Amavas and the 27th day of Roza. So I will be doing a lot of pooja and fasting. Also, we are planning a card party at home one of these days. I will be spending a lot of time with my parents.

Are you taking a day off from work?
I like to work as much as possible, even on holidays. But if my staff will not be coming to the office, I'll have to be content with fewer meetings!

Are you giving your Kasamh Se actors some respite? They desperately want a day off!
(Laughs) Well, I think all shows are getting the day off.

The inevitable question: Will you work with Sony in the future?
I have no problems with Sony. My personal and professional equations with Sandiip Sikcand (Sony's Creative Head) are two different things. Professionally, I wish him all the best.

Then why not work with Sony?
I don't know why so much noise is being made about why I'm not working with Sony. I had a show for them, Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai. It came to an end, and there's so much else to do. I have eight shows in the pipeline. Two of them are almost done for Star.

Smriti Z Iraani,
Sandiip Sikcand and Aamna Shariff
Go on...
On date, I am looking at alternative programming, which can be done with SAB. So yes, I did go to the SAB office.

Fine. With Star One resorting to soaps too, do you feel vindicated?
I never felt victimised so why would I feel vindicated now? I don't take what people have to say seriously. I only take what I say seriously.

Kahaani… is set for a leap?
Yup. That's happening very soon. There's a bit of reality being woven around it. I am very charged about this leap.

Why didn't Kandy Floss do well?
Kandy Floss was never meant to be a TRP-oriented show. Shows like that are alternative programming, which is always on a wet wicket. But it gave us the start we were looking for in alternative programming.

After Gurpreet's problems on the KTH sets, buzz is that Rajeev Khandelwal's coming back?
(Smiles) This rumour's too funny. Who started it?

Maybe his friends, who want to keep him in the news...
I don't think I'll work with Rajeev again. KTH comes directly under me, so Rajeev does not re-enter KTH. My personal equation with Rajeev maybe on a spoilt wicket, but it won't come in the way of his future. If Star or even Balaji wants him on a show handled by personnel other than me, it's fine.

There are rumours about Aamna throwing tantrums on the sets...
Aamna is a thorough professional. She has never mixed her personal and professional lives. Gurpreet (Singh) needlessly spoke against her in print. Consequently, Aamna could have thrown tantrums on the sets, but she never brought it up.

Did you have to change the script because she didn't want to go grey?
At that time, I hadn't finalised the track myself. Aamna just had a point of view and she brought it across to my table. There's nothing wrong in doing that.

Word is, you asked Smriti Iraani to give more dates to Kyunki…? She was giving all her time to Thodi Zameen Thoda Aasman.
Such things happen in a daily show, everyday. It's an occupational hazard. I have a wonderful equation with Smriti and I am happy that she is planning another show. If she is progressing in life, why should I be unhappy? She is a smart girl and has a right to grow. I love it if people in my company grow. Like Mahesh Pandey, who started a writer and is a producer now. We believe a company that makes millions isn't good enough till it makes millionaires.

Buzz is, you want to pull out of your co-production from Thodi Zameen…?
Aisa kuch bhi nahin hai. This loose talk about Smriti and me is being circulated by some former employees of Balaji. I'm going to find out who they are.

'The Object of lust keeps changing!'
Friday, October 20, 2006 11:43:35 IST
'On a nudist beach, I'd like to have great music and lip-smacking food, besides a woman!'

On your sex appeal
My eyes, smile, voice............ etc... etc... etc... It varies from person to person. Different people find different things sexy. Basically attitude reflects all of what I am. Different combinations work on different people as every person has different likings.

How girls react to you
I have a nice guy image. Girls find me quite down to earth. They find my looks unconventional. I've never really sat around to watch the reactions of girls or people around me.

Your first date
It's a funny incident. I liked a girl and she too liked me. On our first date, she said, "yeh mere ko vaprta nahin hai". I was so put off I did not meet her after that.

Your first crush
Hema Malini. She is the eternal dream girl. She rocked in those days and she still rocks. The way she conducts herself gracefully makes her most attractive woman in the film industry.

You're most cherished compliment
"Just wait, your time will come". Someone who is very near and dear to me told me this. I'm waiting for the compliment to become a reality

Your wildest compliment
That's yet to come.

Love & romance
Love is the spice that keeps romance alive. Love is a pure emotion and is as soft as melting wax and as clean as filtered water. Romance is like the peak of love you stay in constantly and enjoy every moment.

Lust
It's destruction like a wild elephant uprooting the lotus from the pond but it exists in every man's mind. Only the objects of lust keep changing. Lust is very normal for every person but one shouldn't flow with it just like that or for the heck of it.

On a nudist beach
If you are in Rome do as the Romans do. I will enjoy the opportunity and make the most of it. I would like to have great music and lip-smacking food as well, besides a woman of course!

What if a girl made a pass at you?
I'd let it pass...

Would you ask a girl out if you liked her but didn't know her well?
It depends on the girl and the vibes she is giving me. It will also depend on the situation, my mood and the way the girl is reacting to me, besides my feelings.

What if you fell short of money on a date?
I'd beg, borrow or steal. My date and the fun it involves would surpass everything.

Your dream date
Beyonce Knowles on a Hawaiian beach on a Moonlit night with soft music and breeze blowing.

Would you dress to impress a girl?
I'm always dressed to impress. I have a natural style so whatever I wear looks good.

Flirtations
Flirting is an art and not everyone's cup of tea. You have to be witty and intelligent. It starts with intelligent conversation which is infectious in nature. Flirtation has nothing to do with age. It keeps you young and everyone does it.

Marriage
It is beautiful and makes the world go round. I recommend it to every man but one very important mantra; Do not play marriage, marriage!

What if your wife caught you with your pants down
She will buy another pair. On second thoughts It will never happen.

Your wildest bedroom fantasy
I don't want to tell otherwise it won't come true. But I can tell you it that it will involve things like wine, good music and a lot of smiles. The rest is up to you to imagine.

Are women a necessary evil?
Oh yeah! Man is incomplete without a woman. Woman makes a man's life interesting as well as meaningful. Life without a woman is no life and a world without women is no world. Ask any man this and he will agree!

Real time

Television is coming into its own as its continuing with its quest for a newer shows and different content. One is awaiting Big Boss which is going to put the celebrity participants under the scanner. Hollywood has given us films like Ed TV where a television crew keeps the subject company even while he's sleeping and the TV station telecast it round the clock. Will the reality bite work in India remains to be seen when the Big Boss telecast starts. In the meanwhile, shows like Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa most certainly are eyeball grabbers for the channels. The name of the game is interactivity, as viewers are urged to vote for their favourite pair or star dancer. So even if the couple may not be on top of the dance ladder they get to stay on for a few rounds as their popularity among their viewers has them score the valued add on points. While for the viewers, such shows are a break from the routine viewing of jaded soaps and sitcoms, the draw mostly being the familiar TV faces. Not that our TV stars haven't been seen dancing in some episode of their stellar soap opera or festival specials which are quite rampant this time of the year. But it is always a carefully rehearsed and edited scene and they are among a cast of others. But with Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, the actors are truly getting a chance to get out of the box and proving first to themselves and then to the judges and audience that yes they too have dancing shoes, and a mean leg, hence they manage to stay in the competition. It's refreshing to see Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan shake a leg instead of wiping moist eyes. They may not be the most proficient of the 10 couples on Nach Baliye 2 but they certainly are holding their own against better dancers. Hiten's caliber is displayed as his two left feet are not allowed to hold him back. Gauri makes up with her grace. Manav Gohil and Shweta Kwatra are the real finds of Nach Baliye2. The latter specially has just added one more dimension to her act - dance. Sad but true, people remember her as Pallavi Agarwal. Here's hoping the show effaces that tag and affixes her with another more positive one. Will Manav and Shweta walk away with the coveted title of The Jodi? Tanaaz and Bakhtiyar are proficient dancers and just might be a tough act to beat. For they have rhythm, spontaneity and lots more dance in the feet. The comedy episode was indeed a revelation where Manav-Shweta and Tanaaz-Bakhtiyar as both the pairs were simply spontaneous and funny. The other 'dancers' in the wings are Shweta Salve and Mahesh Manjrekar. Both have showcased an impeccable Salsa and Samba respectively. Mahesh Manjrekar in this respect has show remarkable ingenuity. At the starting blocks of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, he was being seen as the class entertainment with a few steps thrown in. But his recent show on the dance floor is second only to the best professional dancer. Manjrekar's showing that he can dance as well. Where did all this talent come from? Both he and Shweta are proverbial volcanoes of dance talent. Now her turn at Jhalak Dikhla Jaa explains her absence for Left Right Left. Shows like Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and Nach Baliye deserve repeat seasons and emulation.
</>
Another round of applause for the team of Baa Bahoo Aur Baby. Each week the family faces one more trial and at the moment it is the fatal tumour in little Saumil's brain. What is laudatory is that there is none of the melodrama in this scenario. The understatement is enough to bring a lump to the throat. Right from the scripting, direction, acting and editing are first rate and slick.

Deeya and Tony Singh need to do a quick reality check for both Jab Love Hua and Left Right Left. Both shows seem to getting more into harm's way than was expected. Are they trying to fuse two social cultures rural and urban with village boy Raghu and city sophisticate Aanya's getting married. And since when have trainee cadets taken on rescue missions, as Naina went in quest o Capt. Rajveer! Can we have a plausible bit of scripting, please.

Petty Khandelwal

Rajeev Khandelwal

Whatever happened to the media shy Rajeev Khandelwal? Considering how much he 'values' his privacy, we would have expected him to have a quiet birthday bash. Instead, we saw him cut his birthday cake on a private news channel. And then he pretended to be all humble and modest. Eh?

As if that wasn't enough, we hear the actor almost stopped one of his co-stars from celebrating her birthday recently. A source tells us, "She shares her birthday with Rajeev, but since he wanted to hog all the limelight, he didn't wish her or let her cut a cake on the set."

Here's wishing Rajeev a belated happy birthday, and we hope that he will stop day dreaming about his non-existent popularity.

Gaurav's wrong turn lands show for Rajeev
By: Vickey Lalwani
June 19, 2006

Gaurav Chopraa
Rajeev Khandelwal was not the first choice for Deeya and Tony Singh's forthcoming show Left Right Left. If all had gone as per the original plan of the producers and the channel (SAB), Gaurav Chopra would've played the army guy, which eventually went to Khandelwal.

When contacted, Gaurav was hesitant to talk about being the first choice for Rajeev's role, "I won't deny that I was approached," he began.

Left Right Left did not take off on the date given to Chopra. In the meantime, Chopra got busy with his Hollywood film.

No feedback

"I kept coordinating with the people who mattered. But after a certain point of time, I stopped getting any feedback on the status of the show. Then suddenly one day I got a call asking if I would like to be the sutradhar for the same show."

A days later, Chopra also declined Tony and Deeya Singh's Jabb Love Hua (Zee). "They wanted me to play the second lead, but I did not like the role." In the past few weeks, Gaurav has been flooded with offers. Another one was Twinkle Beauty Parlour (SAB).
