'Do I need food if I am with a hottie?'

Maha foodie...

Shveta Salve, actor

Favourite food: Any food that is spicy and hot; be it Mexican, Thai, Indian.
Food that makes you go ughh: I can't stand food that has sugar or gur in it. Even coconut-based dishes are an absolute no-no!
Earliest memory of good food: It has to be my mother's seafood. Basically, all the home made dishes she would indulge me with when I was a child.
Soul food: Blueberry cheese cake! It's yum and I don't count calories when I eat it.
Biggest indulgence: Oysters, champagne and maybe even white wine make a great combination.
Favourite restaurant: There are four special places I frequent. Soul Fry is special as it feels like going home and the staff are familiar with my likes and dislikes; China Garden for its authentic Chinese food and great ambience; Urban Tadka for its dhabba feel and apart from great tasting food, its pricing is affordable; and Mangi Ferra is another favourite as knowing the owner, I always get special attention.
Favourite swanky eatery: Indigo. The oysters they serve there on a bed of ice are to die for.
Rasta joint: Bade Miyan for its baida roti and Khursheed for its delectable pav bhaji.
Food when on a date with a hottie: (Laughs). Do I need food if I am with a hottie? Well, I'd like to be in a seaside restaurant having oysters and champagne.

The child in me!

On the onset on 14 November i.e Children's Day, lets all celebrate childhood with a difference!

We all know that all humans have an intrinsic child like quality which surfaces at times! So we thought why not ask our stars from Telly town about their kiddish attributes.

Rajeev Khandelwal

I have many qualities in me which are reminiscent of my childhood. I love admiring my new rackets and tennis balls just like a child does. I still love packing my sports bag whenever I am off for tennis. And the excitement of receiving gifts is still intact!

Screen On & Off
home bound: Bipasha Basu

Come Saturday evening and Science City auditorium will play host to the annual celebration of Tollywood and Bollywood — Fairever Anandalok Puroshkar 2006. The awards gala will see some of the freshest talents from Mumbai mingling with the very best of the local industry.

The star of the night will definitely be Bipasha Basu who has had a magic year in 2006 with the critical acclaim for Corporate and the mass hysteria caused by her dance numbers in Omkara. And with Dhoom 2, where she plays Bengali babe Shonali Bose, less than a week away, all eyes will be on Bips at the Fairever Anandalok night.

Director Rakesh Roshan, still basking in the success of Krrish, has confirmed his presence.

Also coming in from Mumbai will be Kangana Ranaut whose performances in Gangster and Woh Lamhe have placed her in the big league of actresses in tinsel town.

Amrita Rao, who has won a lot of hearts with Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah, will be here too. And so will Upen Patel, who stormed many a young heart with his bare-bodied act in 36 China Town.

The star-studded evening will witness some great performances. The singer of the evening will be K.K. who will belt out popular numbers like Pal, Dus bahane, Tu hi shab hai, Kya yeh pyar hai...

Also coming in to perform for the evening from Mumbai will be telly stars Eijaz Khan and Shveta Salve. The two will be dancing to the celebratory theme of 75 years of playback singing.

Tollywood's hero number one Prosenjit will take the stage with other local stars to pay a tribute to Bengali film music through the years.

There will also be a separate section for the Nayikar Khonje contest that Anandalok had conducted a while back.

Reason enough for all roads to lead to Sciene City on Saturday evening.

Naina-Huda's powder room affair

Priyanka Bassi and Vikas Manaktala's friendship has not gone down well with the female actors of Left Right Left

By: Vickey Lalwani
xxx: Priyanka Bassi and Vikas Manaktala

By now, it is a known fact that Priyanka Bassi who plays the fiery Naina Singh in SAB's Left Right Left (LRL) is extremely comfy with her on-screen partner Vikas Manaktala who plays the cool guy Huda.
However, the relationship is a bone of contention with some of the actors on the sets, especially the female actors (Gazal Rai, Priya Arya, Aparna Tilak) who share the make-up room with Priyanka.
Says a source, "Vikas is crazy about Priyanka. He follows her virtually everywhere including the make-up room. Their body language on the sets is sufficiently suggestive.
No entry
It is the actor's weird sense of humour that irritates his female colleagues. "He tells them that they can change in his presence and he will close his eyes. Hardly anybody wants to talk to him on the sets."
Thus the troubled actors ganged up and complained to an official in the production house (Tony and Deeya Singh's DJ Creations). Vikas has been strictly told to keep away from the girls' make-up room. This has miffed Priyanka, but she can do little about it. The three girls are simply fighting for something that is ethical," says a crewmember.
Diplomatic tales
Gazal Rai who plays Pooja admits Priyanka and Vikas bond together quite well and are always seen together. "Both stay nearby, perhaps that's why," puts Rai diplomatically.
Aparna Tilak (Dr Shalini) too treads on the non-controversial path and says, "We get to hear many things, but I haven't seen anything with my own eyes." Aparna adds that she shares the room with Shveta Salve and has not experienced any inconvenience.
Priya too took tried to wriggle out. "I have heard about it. But please leave me out of this."
When contacted, Vikas was in a denial mode, "Priyanka and I have lot of scenes together. That's all. As for the room part, even the girls come to our room."
Priyanka was unavailable for comment.

A birthday gift for Shveta

happy birthday! Rodney Barnes and Shveta Salve pic/ RAKESH DAVE

We saw her dance her heart out and were disappointed when apli Mumbaichi mulgi, Shveta Salve, was a runner-up in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. We know how hard Shveta had worked at her dance. And we think she deserves a break. That's why, on behalf of Mumbai and all her fans, MiDDAY has decided to send her for an all-expense paid trip to Singapore.
For four days from next Monday to Thursday, Shveta will tour the Lion City getting a respite from the grueling rehearsals, the stressed finale et al. She hasn't even had time to celebrate her birthday on November 12.
"Oh, I am so excited," gushes Shveta, when we inform her about her special gift. "The last few months have been tough, emotionally and physically. I just need to relax, maybe go to a spa or indulge in some retail therapy. I am really looking forward to a short break," she says.
And MiDDAY will be making sure of it. Apart from soothing her tired self, we will make sure that she also gets to see Singapore and try the local cuisine. "I have been there only once and that too on a tight schedule. But this time, I will make sure I take in all the sights," she says. In fact, Shveta has promised to come back and write all about her experiences in Singapore. She is an amateur photographer (bet you didn't know that!) and hopes to practise her hobby during this trip.
Her fianc Rodney Barnes, who has been supportive of her throughout the show, will accompany Shveta on her holiday. "This is the best birthday gift I've ever got. I'll come back and tell you all about it," she promises. We shall hold you to it, Shveta. Have a great trip!

Sagging shows!

On the same channel, Left Right Left, is sagging a bit. The story hasn't moved much further and twists in the tale are slow in coming. This was a show that could have carried the channel on its shoulders. Instead, it has been reduced to becoming just one more card in the pack.

Aamna wants Rajeev in her Sony show!

Sandiip Sikcand's recent move from Balaji to Sony Entertainment Television has prompted many significant actors to shift their loyalties..The initiation was taken by Smriti Irani followed by none other than the superliscious Aamna Shariff aka Kashish of Kahin Toh Hoga fame.

But what's interesting is the dope provided by our khabru. It heard that the actor has necessitated the inclusion of her 'best friend' Rajeev Khandelwal, in her new show for Sony.

This is not the first time that Aamna has been in news for her starry tantrums. Stories about she throwing her weight around are known in the telly circles - be it for grabbing the spotlight wholly, or for fussing about outfits or for demanding exclusive treatment while flying abroad with the crew of her show.

And as the buzz goes, most of the time Aamna manages to get what she wants. So, will the lovely lady have her way this time too? Lets wait and watch.

They shone bright on showbiz night

The Fairever Anandalok Puroshkar 2006 at the Science City auditorium on Saturday evening was a blend of spirited performance and starry presence. Here are a few glimpses of the Bolly brigade

Shveta Salve and Eijaz Khan flew in from Mumbai to stage a homage to Bollywood music directors. Dancing to songs from Awara hoon to Raat baki to Kajra re, the duo came up with a spirited shake-a-leg. The finalists of Fairever Nayikar Khonje, a talent hunt conducted by Anandalok to find a new face for Bengali films, gave a lively performance too, with winner Subhashree.
