Chapter 17: Naach
Love is both a cause and effect of celebration. And on this pretext, Mihir Virani gave the go ahead to have a get together on the occasion. Even though it was primarily a family event, Tulsi delegated to Krishna Tulsi and Barkha, a list of people she wanted to be a part of the event. Abiding by same theme, Nakul altered the decor, music and even the menu. At Shantiniketan, Pari, Archita, Lakshya, Manthan chipped in their contributions for the decorations, music and entertainment. With occasional assistance from Eklavya and Joydeep.
"Hi all you young-in-appearance and young-at-heart people," Manthan began on the eve of the party. "It's grossly unfair that Beasts get to dance with Beauties just by virtue of being 'couples'" he said smirking at Nakul. "And Price charming's have to stand by and watch. So tonight we're going to 'mix and match' couples. The names will be drawn at random from these two caskets marked 'Virani' ladies and 'Virani' gentlemen respectively." "What about the music?" Damini asked, much amused. "Well....We're going to play songs at random - don't worry, I did not prepare the CD. Pari and Archita did..... And of course there's going to be a prize for the best mix-n-match couple." "Which is?" was Gautam's question. "That chachu is a surprise.... I'll just draw the first names out of the box......Joydeep ........and .......Bhumi di"
Bhumi had just placed her hand over Joydeep's to start dancing when she saw Abhir making an entrance. She would have stood petrified had Joydeep not gently maneuvered her towards the dance floor. "Disturbed?" he asked her. She looked at him, falling into rhythm for the song "Shayad yehi to pyar hai". "Yes...." "So you still feel for him Bhumi?" Joydeep asked with a sad smile. Hesitantly, she answered "I guess....Otherwise I would be indifferent, right?" "That's what I would assume. Like you are to me." They continued twirling before Bhumi asked him, "Funny coincedence, our names were called out first. We are a true mix-n-match couple ,aren't we? she smiled. "Oh that....I struck a deal with Manthan....If he called out my name with yours, I would call his with..." "KT?" "Yes...." Joydeep grinned a little sheepishly. The dance ended to applause from all. As Joydeep was about to pick up and call out his predecided choice, Bhumi whisked the paper chit out of his hands and called out the actual names - "Mom...you and Eklavya bhaiya" she laughed.
Tulsi danced with Gautam, Karan with Tripti, Lakshya with Damini. Sahil with Ganga. Nakul with KT. And to his chagrin, he scrupulously called out the next names. Which turned out to be Barkha and Manthan.
With "Kabhi Dil ke qareeb ...tumhein mere naseeb" playing in the background, Barkha and Manthan started dancing. "Relax Yaar....." Manthan told Barkha who was continously looking at her feet. "When your name was announced along with mine....I gave up any hopes I had of winning this contest.".Manthan looked a little disconsolate and Barkha tried to cheer him up with "I'll try to put my best foot forward.", accidently treading on his toes."Ouch...no...Aaaaaahh....Barkha....Please mere pairon par taras khao.....that's not the reason....Ouchh.....That Joydeep cheater....I was supposed to be dancing with KT." Manthan finished plaintively. Barkha just laughed. Just before the dance was about to end, Manthan whispered conspirationally, "I may have not been able to dance with Krishna Tulsi....And my feet are sore....But were Nakul to give the same reaction everytime, I would willingly dance hundred times more with you", he concluded, gesturing towards Nakul's green and red countenance.
