Uff, this Aaliyah. Shikha is a beautiful and powerful actress and she could have done a wonderful job with a Aaliyah who had more meat in her characterization.

I wish they had showed deeper connection between her and Purab that justified her obsession. They show as if PuLiya never had proper romantic/love based interactions and then they are showing this ever-plotting Aaliyah. That makes her look a psychopath than a scorned lover.

The other thing that bugs me is how she does not appreciate her humble roots and that she is rich only because of her brother. I see that she is taken over by the power that money offers but her forgetting that Abhi and Daadi have been her father and mother since her parents died. Especially Abhi, who has tried to fulfill her every wish, while he would have been only a few years older than her. That was not something I was expecting of Aaliyah, I always thought no matter what she would stand by her brother.

I still have bits of hopes for Aaliyah.. may be she will die saving Abhi from a major threat (Neil generated?) or will ultimately turn the tables and emerge as a redeemed character.

Alright, I meant to write about Suresh and failed after my laptop and ipad ate my almost finished posts in my two attempts respectively. This time trying on phone, so hopefully I succeed.

You all have covered a bunch of things. I want to focus on Suresh's complexes.

For a first thought- Suresh is the good samaritan kind of guy. No doubt!

But if we look at his personal life, there are complexities.

First of all his love for BB- He claims to love her all along but never expresses it to her. He gets agitated when he has to marry Pragya but he does not take the chance to express the intensity of his emotions to BB, when he gets caught and his marriage to Pragya breaks. Nor does he do anything about letting BB know of his sentiments later on and does nothing about realizing she loves Purab. Why?
Does he feel he is not handsome, rich and young enough for BB? Does he have inferiority complex? (It did show in his drunk speech at Abhi's house during RaBul wedding announcement). Because Suresh never stops from speaking his heart otherwise.

Then, when it comes to Pragya, he wants to be her 'saviour', although he knows he can't be. First he wants to marry her so that she is not hurt/out of gratitude and he wants to marry again during MMS fiasco to save her reputation. In both scenarios he could have played her support at his authority as her bestie. But he displays some level of Messaih complex.

And then comes his issues with Abhi. So Abhi stands for everything Suresh believes as wrong. Yet, Abhi achieves adulation from women, the Aroras and perhaps the whole youth. When it has come to Sarla Maa and Rockstar Daadi, Abhi has received a lot more recognition and love than Suresh although Suresh was more sincere in his efforts.

Naturally, Suresh would feel bad but he does more than that.

Suresh shows his disgrunt about Abhi's concert openly when BB wants to attend it.

Suresh wants to tell Abhi several times that he is lucky to have Pragya.

Seems like Suresh believes Abhi does not deserve Pragya (which is true but Suresh did not know AbhiGya issues initially). But it seemed like Suresh was never happy that a guy like Abhi who does not have 'the good' values ends up being the lucky one.

The peeping through the window act by Suresh at AbhiGya pag phere always intrigued me. It IS creepy. But then Suresh did not seem to be stealing glances at a newly wed romance. But it perhaps again his disbelief that Abhi attained Pragya!

When Abhi gets into drunk-drive case, Suresh crosses Pragya and tries to put Abhi behind the bars. No best friend would do that to his/her bestie's hubby. Again, it is personal for Suresh.

Suresh finds the need to tell Abhi that he could have saved the marriage hall in a different way. He perhaps does not even know that the beating up/jail happened because of corporator's ugly remarks, yet he wants to say something to Abhi.

After Abhi halts PraSu marriage, Suresh is more interested in telling Abhi that he is a nautanki and he will never make Pragya happy. He does not recognize that Abhi did something that he should have done- that is fighting for the truth and standing by Pragya. Nor does he realize Abhi brought his own sister down and also admitted his mistake. But Suresh is rather unhappy that the marriage didn't happen.
Why does Suresh not want a happy life for Pragya with Abhi knowing she loves him? Seems like he is more absorbed in his disgrunt for Abhi than Pragya's happiness. Makes more sense why he would talk to Abhi about 'Pragya's feelings' for him than for Abhi during MMS beat up.

So Suresh has some sort of jealosy or disgrunt complex regarding Abhi.

Suresh to me is an interesting character with complexities and complexes! If only the CVs gave space to the fabulous actor Faisal is!!

Hope this time I can post this long write up, I surely missed some pointers compared to my earlier attempts. Oh well!

Sigh- I know exactly what you mean - this being a groupie-whatever thing means every time I hit 20 posts, my next post doesn't get posted, which of course was some essay of a comment I'd written as a reply. Makes you want to hit something doesn' t it?
On to Suresh - I agree that he has issues. major issues. His behaviour isn't stellar, far from it - but his bad decisions IMO are just that. Bad decisions. He couldn't man up and tell Bulbul. He can't tell Pragya, and then he can't not tell her and then finally when he does he's a mess - all true - but contrast him with Aaliya and note how his decisions stem from hopes of doing the right thing, or at max shyness - never from maliciousness.

In regards to Abhi and Suresh however I think you were spot on. Suresh doesn't like Abhi being the lucky one, without having ever actually doing the right thing. He is jealous, and he is annoyed - because all his life he followed the straight and narrow path to be the better man and now the better man is a man like Abhi - a man who is the anthesis of everything he stands for. Which is why to a certain extent his behaviour is indeed puritanical in the police instances rather than being more objective- it is his his way of lashing out.

Amen. This is PERFECT ^

The only thing I would add though, is that I don't really want to see a redemption track for Aaliya, not now, I want to see some sort of a flashback-ish scenario where somebody somewhere gives me a REASON to understand her.

I think - I want to see Aaliya have daddy issues. Tragic daddy issues, like something crude and horrible, sexual abuse even (which gives me a great idea for a fic - Just saying) but the reason I want to see something like this is because I want to see a reason why her relationship with men is one she sees as a one way street. It would also make Purab's initial saved Aaliya from a goon memory that much more merit. Freudian Psych and all...

Advena, it was mentioned by Abhi that Daadi used to put baby Aaliyah to sleep and stayed awake the whole night for her. I guess that means her parents died when she was very little... no daddy issues she can remember of I guess.
And Abhi, the only male figure in her life, has never let her shed a tear, I guess, let alone hurting her in anyway.

Did they - no clue. See this is that part that bugs me - I understand being spoiled, being spoiled is one thing - but to take on the mantle of maliciousness that Aaliya obviously has, takes something darker, something that comes from tragedy - a dark tragedy - which brings me back to the same question - Why is Aaliya doing what she is doing? What is her defence?

It came up in the emotional talk between Aaliyah and Abhi in her room, after he exposes her during Pragya-Suresh MMS fiasco. He asks her why she does not care about him and Daadi, who love her so much and obsesses over Purab and reminds her of how Daadi used to put her to sleep when she was a baby.

I agree with you, they should have shown a stronger reason (there is no reason as of now) for Aaliyah to be so evil. It does not make sense.

On the other hand Tannu makes a bit more sense than Aaliyah. She has financial and fame motivations. Also, she does not love Abhi really nor is emotionally attached to him. Are you gonna do a meta on her?

Aaliyah can't be not emotionally bound to Abhi. That's why I hope she redeems.

Maybe, and this is 100% contrary to Purab's character, but maybe he misbehaved with her in their teens and that's why she's so obsessed to have him? In a twisted way - you once took control over me so now I must have control over you?

There are two possibilities basically. One, as you mentioned Advena - some disturbingly dark tragedy in the past which warped her way of thinking and ability to bond, especially with men.

Two, Aliya is inherently evil. No grey in her, just shades of black.

Both character arcs can be very interesting, in completely diverse ways, if handled correctly. Right now though, it seems the show is going with arc-2, but not really handling it either.

Sigh. This one character in this show was so strong, had so much potential for exploration and growth. Frankly, the most fascinating character in the show. I really wish Advena you had been able to do the meta on her a few weeks back when she was still something of an enigma. Not this murdering pyschopath with no moral fiber and no background to justify her thinking or acts.

Tia - i still hope they will redeem her somehow. Not in the sense of her realizing her mistakes, etc and suddenly turning good - too far-fetched. But redeem the characterization by exploring how she turned into what she did. Even if its through one single episode.

Rani - the Purab angle seems way too out of character for both.

In my head (and it may just be me trying to justify this character's existence) - Aliya is very emotional. She has a strong emotional connect to two people - Abhi and Purab. I can see her turning obsessive due to an emotional connect to Purab, but can't see her doing so if he had tried to physically assault her or something. Because the other part that comes through is her strong sense of self and self-preservation. She has clearly defined set of rights and wrongs as it pertains to her. So, if some one tried to hurt her, then she would be hurting them back, not obsessing to "possess" them. Unless of course she has hidden masochistic tendencies and is a sub (with the dom-avatar only for show).

Possibilities... See? Even with the mess they make of her characterization, we still obsess over Aliya!

Hmm I think I must have blanked out - either way as I said before, Aaliya atm is a mass of contradictions, and I will agree yes, Tanu seems a lot more comprehendible - a social climber and a gold-digger - gotcha - don't like her - but I get her.

I still don't want to see a Aaliya 'becoming' good - not do I think she is as emotionally bound to Abhi as, Abhi thinks. But let's see.

Hey P!

I see what you are saying, but I doubt this is going to come to pass - what would have been perhaps more understandable is an actual relationship between the two of them that maybe Purab outgrows - I don't know - I don't see Purab being Aaliya's childhood molester - it just seems off somehow. He lacks the spine and sense of entitlement perverts and sex offenders seem to have.
