I agree mostly. The problems that Suresh gets in are mainly due to the Aroras or the Mehras. Like Abhi with the fake engagement thing and Tanu with the drinks. He's not perfect, but he doesn't look that bad.

Did they ever explain what it is about Bulbul that Suresh loves? Obviously she's the prettier and more vocal sister, but are those the only reasons? Because she doesn't really have much going about with her. Even with Purab, Bulbul's main concern is her sister. (And funny enough, when Bulbul was recovering from her drowning, said sister was more upset that her husband wasn't helping her out of the pool)

I love your post and your writing style is just fabulous!

As for Suresh, I started off with a gentle dislike and now I just hate the character.

It stems from the fact that he can't be trusted. There is an inherent trait he possesses that he can't be trusted even if he is doing 'the right thing'. To me, he's a more dangerous friend than enemy.

He's not able to fight for himself nor defend himself. He uses the wrong words at the wrong times and after the drunken rambling incident, he dug himself deeper.

His character is an interesting one however and Faisal is wonderful playing it. He is just too slimy however and I want him to stay away from both sisters, though I know it ain't happening anytime soon 😆

tell me about it! CVs put all the characters for sale in the beginning, saw which one has the most value and sticked with it while people like Rachna and Suresh, though potential characters, ended up in warehouse! 😆

Love your post Advena!! I would love to see metas for each of the characters listed! But the most interested in your thoughts about Purab(because he really annoys me honestly speaking), Abhi and Aaliya, in that exact order!

Ok so let me get to the topic...Suresh. Btw just warning that I for some reason like ranting on about Suresh. So bear with me😆

I still remember that I was like "Who in the world is he" when I first saw him in KKB. I thought I would never like him, but after a week or so he started to grow on me. I adored SurYa's friendship, it was so cute. But then aroud the second SurYa marriage, I started to get annoyed at him. But now, I still like his character.

Why?

Well what has he really done wrong? I mean look at the while Arora family praising Abhi like he's some hero, when in reality, he has also done some bad stuff as well to them. On the other hand, Suresh has done a lot. Sure, his timing is quite bad and he isn't perfect. Nor is he eye candy. But tbh, most of the characters aren't that great either. Actually, I feel Suresh is among the better characters.

It's sad to see Suresh being used as then thrown away when not needed. He's not a puppet, but a human being with feelings.

Maybe I'm supposed to be hating him, but honestly I can't. Not saying that I LOVE him, because I don't. I haven't seen his character around much to really love his character. I really don't how to describe how I like Suresh as a character. For me it's almost like, "like" and "empathy" being mixed together.

I probably would be able to really like his character of she was around more. But like Mina Di said,"...the writers only care about AbhiGya, everything else is an afterthought."LOL

Pretty interesting! First of all thanks for this post! Enjoyed reading it. Will contribute to this as we continue. I am glad that you can't keep your opinions to your self.😆

As Kat mentioned I am also waiting to see your meta post on Aaliyah, the most.

Okay, Coming to Suresh, I must say I liked his character very much in the beginning. He was kind of eccentric, boring character but still there was something in his character which made him quite strong IMO. But after AbhiGya marriage may be coz we didn't get to see him as much, or may be coz he was always coming in the way of the much loved hero Abhi, I began to get kind of annoyed. It continued to grow till I saw his drunken confession few days ago.

He is always known for his saying the wrong things at a wrong time trait and this was one such occasion. But what made this different, was the fact that there was no inhibitions this time. It revealed a lot about the character.

However, I must admit that I don't ship SuBul. Well, at least not till day.

Advena I look forward to read about the other characters. 😛

Diah

Aww thank you!

So that's two votes for Aliya atm, and two for Purab, I think we have a tie!

I see what you mean, Suresh is not the kind of man I would ship with Bulbul, partially because their's is such a shallow connection - not to mention one-sided,and partially because, Suresh and Bulbul in ways are too alike. Both of them have a rose tinted view of the world. Bulbul has the pretty girl ditz-syndrome,and Suresh has fixer-whiteknight-syndrome.

They just DON'T mix.

And since you have been brave (or foolish?) enough to ask for our vote/opinion, and since i cannot keep my opinions to myself either (though... i have learnt the hard way to ... at least be more diplomatic about 'em, especially on IF): as far as i am concerned, you can skip #s 4, 5 and 7 with my blessings. Perhaps even #6 - though Sarla has potential which peeps through once in a while. Daadiji now - which one did you mean? Abhi's Daadi or Pragya's? You should do both. The older ladies are atom bombs here 😊. And now you know my vote - hands down - Aliya. She is the most complex, most layered and hence the most interesting character in this show.

Suresh now. Ekta probably did see Family Matters and base him on Urkel. He even looks like him.

Yep, you nailed him. Suresh is not quite Col Brandon (my most fav char in the novel, which btw was a hard one to like after P&P). But he shares some of the Colonel's most honorable characteristics. And he is the everyday hero. Who suffers from both a hero complex and a severe inferiority complex at the same time.

My 2 cents (and as usual, i differ from over 90% of the audience), its Bulbul who does not deserve Suresh. She has no depth. She may be pretty and bright - like a moth. But she does not have the depth of character some one like Suresh needs long-term. (I am no fan of BB's as you can tell. She is no Marianne. But i don't even see her becoming one in the show. No potential in this one).

But - love is blind. And stupid. And Suresh will continue to wallow in it. Continue to make a greater fool of himself. Continue to make himself into the enemy of the very family he yearns to belong to.

Hahaha -- aww this made be smile - as in legit smile - at least I'm not alone in my pre-exam drabble-fests.

As for the 'daadi' question - I actually meant Abhi's Daadi, but now that you mention it Sarla's Saas would be such a wonderful character to delve into, the woman is bold, and sassy, and she is all that with a beautiful dollop of wisdom, that makes it all so much better. Suresh is indeed, very different from Col. Brandon, in fact he he reminds me of and ugly Laurie, in a lot of ways, I'm going back to Little Women I know but I love Alcott, and it fits.

As for Bulbul, I do agree, (sorry 90% of the fandom) but the girl needs to stop being such a blonde. I mean, seriously. Half the time the stuff she says makes me want to smack her- the world does not revolve around you pretty-pants, it's time you realized that.

Gah!

Lol, anyways, I am so sorry for the delay in replies btw, I've been hammering out a new chapter for TGNL, and everytime I come down here to reply my comment level is exhausted. Stupid forum rules. #pout

And he is also one of the most disliked character in this show and that's a sad thing. I mean just because he gives importance to being just and right? And also because he speaks his mind and isn't an eye-candy??? He definitely made mistakes along the way and so have other characters. But I find it extremely unfair that Bulbul pinpoint him for not marrying her sister. I get why she finds it wrong to like him. I mean her sister had feelings for him. But she needs to move on from that, because Pragya clearly has.

Renuka, Renuka, Renuka, take a bow Lady. You have just said exactly what I've been screaming about in my head for ages. The man is such a 'used' character. I was once told, that the only thing worse than being picked on is being invisible, and that is SO true for Suresh, he is seen only when someone needs something for him, he needs to want up and flip someone the bird next time.

Interesting thoughts, advena. I think I might just have opposite opinions from yours on just about everything related to KKB, but you express your opinions so compellingly that I'm happy to read them.

As for Suresh - wow oh wow, did I ever get a different sense from him, from the beginning. I get what you mean about Suresh being the everyday hero - he's definitely supposed to be the model citizen, an upstanding and righteous man, etc etc. Did you ever read Georgette Heyer? He's like Venetia's "worthy" suitor - which both is and isn't a compliment.

But from the beginning I've viewed Suresh with dislike and mistrust, in relation to Pragya. Rather than a white night, I saw him as a potential traitor - he was so close to Pragya, which meant he was in a perfect position to hurt her, whether he meant to or not. I never wanted them to get together, and his suppressed longing for Bulbul - which was at first shown ambiguously, so that viewers would think he wanted Pragya - made me suspicious of him.

I have to disagree with you that he's never done anything we can hold against him - going along with his initial engagement to Pragya was a huge mistake. A man of sense would've been honest with his best friend about the misunderstanding. In this case an excess of sensibility - as regards doing the right thing and not causing problems - kept him silent and pretending for far too long.

He's a caring friend and he never meant to hurt Pragya, I'll give him that. But for all that he can fight whatever social justice cause comes his way, and for all that he's willing to butt into others' lives to set things right, he severely lacks courage on his own behalf. What would have me swooning for him would be a stoic and honest confession to Bulbul - I love you, I know you don't want me, but I'll keep loving you, and the choice of what to do with your heart is yours - instead of lurking around her family and hiding his feelings and nursing hurt in his heart in a slimy passive-aggressive way.

I think the writers have been inconsistent with Suresh (well, with everybody, but we're talking about Suresh right now); the way he went along with Abhi's second-marriage farce made no sense to me. I want to ship SuBul or even a refreshed Suresh-Pragya friendship where Pragya could draw strength from her sensible friend, but I'm not finding Suresh interesting or likable now. I don't know how he could recover in my eyes - I've lost respect for him.

And all that being said...I don't dislike him. I want to like him, but as you said...something just makes it so I can't.

My vote is, let's do Purab next. He grates on my nerves too, so maybe between us we can set out all his flaws and come up with what would make him better 😉.

Hahaha - Aww Mina you are such a sweetheart. Dissenters take note, this is how you make a statement. Point out that you disagree, then explain why.

Sorry, just felt the need to point that out, I've never been a fan of the one liners that go , "oh you hater..." blah blah blah...but I do LOVE being disagreed with.

<3
Yes I have read Georgette Hayer actually, tbh, not a fan, I like my men more Judith McNaught-ish, raw, flawed, rough around the edges.

But I do take your point, Suresh is indeed, the good guy, but the unruffled, too tame good guy. I actually figured out the Bulbul thing pretty early on, so I feel like I had an advantage, I think it was the way he responded when her wedding was called off, that tipped me off. He was too calm to have been in love with Pragya. And once I figured that out I knew it was Bulbul. Although tbh, the Bulbul-Daadi Bye scene in the first episode had made me a bit suspicious, but I wasn't sure till Pragya's wedding was called off.

I can definitely understand where you are coming from, his would have been the most crushing betrayal - esp for Pragya and lo, behold it was. Nothing is worse than not being able to be MAD at the person who broke your heart.

I also kind of agree with you on Suresh's silence but, I think fundamentally speaking I disagree. I agree that it was fudged, pretty badly, but I also see how easy it was to kind of be caught up in the moment and be lost and not really know what to do. Especially when you factor in that he was her best friend, and this was his entire family and her entire family NOT to forget that the reason he didn't love her - was her own sister. Yeah, pretty big pile of shit. Can't blame him here tbh.

As for what would have endeared him to you, I think it's important to remember here that Suresh isn't a 'to hell with it' type of guy. He is inherently not exactly 'shy' but I think self-aware. And even being in love with her didn't blind him to the fact the Bulbul was and is a shallow soul, in whose eye's he would always be about as relevant as a text book (Bulbul being the airhead she is I doubt she has much use for a text book, or any book).

While I agree, the authors have screwed almost all the character's up a bit. I do see why he agreed. He agreed, because in his head it was his fault, Pragya's marriage to Abhi, the video, the way she would be shamed if it came out, the way his family would be shamed and what's more, I think he saw it as penance, for loving the wrong sister. <-------I know this sounds weird but bear with me - I'll explain this more when I do Relationship Meta's

Suresh though is not afraid to speak up, I loved it how he told Abhi off after the mms fiasco.

He is a good guy but not perfect. Though I think he is the better guy than Abhi.

My only big complain about him is the love he helds for the beautiful sister Bulbul. He just proved like alll the other guys he too choses beauty over a beautiful heart but than again he is a man.

Hello there Chair, I'm guessing that is a Chuck/Blair reference btw in which case #cyberhugs

I think more than 'like' she never really gave him the time of day. He was in her 'august' (sarcasm) opinion beneath her, and her sister. Which is why, I won't say Suresh's interest was 'vain' per se, but shallow definitely. And yes Suresh does have a voice, when he chooses to use it of course and it is definitely a point in his favor that he doesn't discriminate when he does choose to use it.

Suresh is indeed most underrated character in KKB and I liked him from the start because he's normal citizen when compared with everybody else. His dialogues in the beginning were great. I still like him more than other main leads, for some reason Purab just hasnt been able to impress me yet!🤔
Mina I think reason behind your feelings is because CVs rather than developing his character, have used him as a puppet to be included wherever they need a bit of drama or drag the story. When do we ever get to see normal everyday scenes with suresh? He only appears when hes needed and mostly in the horrible situation which makes us question our likeness of him. And writers have been horrible in writing his dialogues as well, perhaps they only care about other two couples and their love stories!😆

But hey I still like him, call me an idiot for this, but if i like someone from the first day, i tend to stick with them throughout! 😊

Oh God I so agree - Purab is a wuss. Seriously, a wuss.
