it is fun to read the replies...thanks everyone! please keep them coming. tanchoo (tanu the choodail) and alvira are entertaining, i must say. poor things...getting gaali from so many! :)

on another note, while the violence in KKB appears innocuous compared to other shows, its very presence is disturbing to me. i am making a general statement so please do not take it as a condemnation for all shows...what is even more troubling to me about many desi soaps is how easily we the audience accept or are expected to accept the violence/violent ideoogy against women. the aggressive, angry young male twisting the woman's arm, or pinning her down, or bruising her is often romanticized. what concerns me are the young, impressionable girls who think this type behavior equates with passion or romance (he did it because he loves me and can't handle it). i hope the producers and writers of these shows choose to be more responsible...what message are they sending? am i totally off the cuff here?

There is no denying that Abhi has violent traits. Beating up, Poking with pins and Throwing Woman/Women.
It is a violent behaviour that someone drops you two times while dancing and two times literally on the floor.

It is abusive and not comic. The surprise that Pragya was able to get up and pressing Abhi's shirt on Engagement Day was unpalatable.

He beat up other men with or without MU.
He threw Pragya down with or without MU. He threw Pragya in water...its not the matter of throwing a woman on water, floor or bed...its the intention of the mind...the willingness to not care and hurt someone.

And the rich and brash carry these traits all the time...another celebrity trait that gets covered up in gloss and glitz.

What the story is sending a message for.
The message is clear. The Soap Heroine in her mind knows she is being tortured ...mentally and physically. She did not say Harassment or Pareshaan. She actually has kept on saying They TORTURE me.

When drunken, she initially says...Torture, I felt the pain, the agony of her mind. Though my mind did say, she is saying everyday in bedroom I get tortured, I was not shown all this. But now her silence makes sense...without showing it onscreen to avoid controversy and censorship, the writers have stamped it through Pragya that indeed she gets tortured and she is very afraid of the trio, even if she occasionally gets to be sparky with answer backs.

Abhi beats up men when they bother his women. No question on that. He has a temper and violent streak in him but he reserves it to men (so far at least).

But does Abhi get physically violent with women, especially Pragya?

My answer is NO.

We also need to consider when Abhi is really mad at Pragya. Their first confrontation the next day of wedding... and when they argue over if she loves Purab or not (she is wearing a red suit, him in black Tee, he says he will get independence on Aug 15), and when they come back from police station and Daadi shouts on him for the first time..he is also mad at Pragya for good.
But those times, he doesn't even touch her. Just means, when he is serious, he does not get physical with her.

Rest of whatever he has done is to be taken as light hearted annoyance.. more in a childish, tit for tat manner.

Pragya once makes him dip his finger in hot coffee.. although unintentional, he thinks it was intentional. That's not violence either! Lol.

well... all the nonsense and insensibility will continue to keep being shown, as long as it fetches the channel good trp. That unfortunately is the reality of Indian tv right now. tolerate whatever crap, they dish right now as thats whats grabbing the max eyeballs.

until there is a drop in trp for whatever reasons, the channel will force the PH to continue milking this nonsensical MU to the fullest extent.

and i agree with 0SD0.. pragya's torture is being laughed off as funny... but that doesnt make it less digestable for us to watch. Her convinient bravery (during rachna track) was intended by the writers to catch the hero's attention and the supposed dumbness which seems shocking and irritates us to no extent is mainly to prolong the love story. Pragya also is forced to stay in this marriage by whatever dumb reasons and abhi also isnt allowing her to leave... his outrage on being told right after she left to go to her mom's place.. (how dare she) and his not allowing her to call up her mom during her drunken phase.

The other 2 characters who irritate me to the core are bulbul and purab. I dont know what caused them to sacrifice their love, and spinelessly give in to the mehra siblings' demand. And now, allegedly both are suffering... 🤢 Who asked them to sacrifice in the 1st place? certainly not pragya. And now instead of clearing things up, purab the coward spinelessly runs away 😆 gawd... simply to create more drama.

All of us agree that the plot of the story (and revenge) is flimsy. This is not how a rockstar should have sought revenge from a girl like Pragya. How about just getting engaged with her, but then backing out or something? Also the story hasn't progressed much (we take one step forward, and then several backwards) so the niceness of Abhi gets lost somewhere. All said and done, like you said the actors are doing a fab job. Unlike many other Ekta Kapoor serials, this serial was packed with symbolisms and foreshadowing - so I guess they tie in the story together. None of the misunderstandings have ever been cleared yet (like for example, the kidnapping one). Also, neither of the characters have gotten past the eyelocks and allah wariyas to actually know each other's backgrounds. Its hightime, they start sharing some friendship (no love is necessary at this point) and then beginning sharing about their pasts. But well, will that ever happen in an Indian soap? God knows.Overall the tracks are comical in nature, Abhi and Pragya always cover up for their "love and concern for each other" and the vamps always fail. So, I am kind-of okay with the portrayal. It is not too negative. There were a few things I don't agree with, and I hope they show a proper redemption for it soon:
1. SR night (it is just brutal to see Pragya go through this... specially with her backstory)
2. The physical violence ( to whatever degree it is shown)
3. Puneet track. Abhi was covering up and overreacting because he was caught. Perhaps he thinks Puneet was spying on them or believes that Puneet was indeed trying to "see" Tanu. That's the only benefit of doubt I can give him. But he does not know this was again Tanu's plot. So while I give him the benefit of doubt, I still hate that he is covering up his mistake by mercilessly beating a kid.

Other than these three, the other tracks have been pretty comical. I do wish they intensify the story - by exploring the relationship of all the leads. I am also wondering if they will ever show SuBul? Or are they set on RaBul? They have lot of meat to show without introducing unnecessary twists. Lets see what they do?

He gets forced to do things for her such as decorate with her or to hold her hand for mehendi.. which he doesn't like. And then, he comes up with these silly ways of annoying her.
Of course it can be extrapolated and thought of that way. But I never thought Abhi is physically abusive.
Even in the dance sequences, he dropped her and all that, but they also showed she dropped him too. He fed her mirchi.. and she did too.
So, it's more a light hearted "irritating" each other than actual violence.

Tia, dropping Pragya was intentional, it could have hurt her, Abhi dropped her three times, she is lucky she didn't break her back. Add to that the public humiliation, what kind of nice human being does that? Take out his frustrations in private if he has to but what he did was uncalled for. Poking her was not funny, he was being an idiot. Her staying on in a marriage in a contract that he contrived one-sided is irrelevant to his behavior and cannot be cited as an excuse. He doesn't take marriage seriously, he wants a temporary contract to teach Pragya a lesson and then wants to waltz out of it with his bird brain GF. The fact that Pragya is not of the same mind set and takes the institution of marriage a little more seriously then him if not for herself but for others around her is not her fault and cannot be a loophole for Abhi to escape censure.

It is such portrayal of men under the guise of comedy or nok jhok or even love not yet realized that encourage impressionable girls to harbor under the misconception that strong armed tactics are okay as long as the man "loves" them. This is what continues to perpetrate the belief that women are the weaker sex and men esp husbands can do what they want and get away with it. It takes far more strength to be gentle and controlled than being immaturely sadistic and violent.

I liked this part very much. In general commentary. And the bolded, very beautifully said. No matter how many action movies or soaps we watch or violent video games we can indulge in, the matter of someone lifting their hand to slap or beat someone, shows a temper that needs control. There is no excuse for that and the present times are not the barbaric times of old. Heros torturing their heroine in the name of revenge or passionate love is not in good taste and likewise heroines going around slapping men is also not warranted, keeping in mind how the weaker men can get violent in reactionary rage. Its Social Manners and Social Preservation.

Beating up is associated with Bully and Thug behaviour. Period.

We should ask ourselves, can we lift our hands like that? Would we be able to take that slap or beating?

Has anyone...how literally its traumatic with "Din mein taare nazar aana?" when we get hit. One simple fall on the road leaves us with scratch or bruise or sprain. And one strong swoop or press of even finger, brings tears to your eyes.

Forget the idea of pain, Indians do not even know anything about Trauma handling. India lacks the culture of asking when one is in shock..."Are you okay? Can you see clearly? Do you see my fingers?" Without even giving time to recuperate, the person is treated like a robot to give systematic answers. Sigh!!! Human Values...where are Thou?
