Chapter 4:

Nidhi was still holding him tightly when ashu let go of her and dropped his hands, sensing this nidhi became stiff and jerked apart with a flushed face. This abrupt proximity left them both with awkward silence; both averted their gaze to avoid each other. What was looking so natural few minutes ago, now looked all wrong, nidhi thought 'what made her hug him ", other side ashu thought "what made him take her in his arms!! Both were still struggling to get over this awkwardness when it's started raining! Ashu broke the silence first by speaking "Nidhi, I will drop you home. I don't want you to go all alone at this time .Please"

Nidhi nodded her head and followed him to his car. Even in car nidhi avoided his gaze and looked out, into the darkness.

Ashu thought he witnessed pain in those eyes, Even though she stopped crying but still he can see a kind of emptiness lingering in those eyes…She did not cared to look at his side and kept on staring outside.

Other hand ashu was struggling to make her comfortable; he knew his sudden action disturbed her but he don't know how to make things right again , how to get over this awkward situation.

He spoke after a while "nidhi, how about a Hot chocolate? I heard chocolates are good when one is disturbed …!!

Nidhi just stared

Ashu : that's ok , if you are not interested nidhi …

Nidhi : did I said NO ?

Ashu : so shall we ? I know very good place ..I hope its till open.

Nidhi smiled brightly .he saw the emptiness which was their before suddenly vanished to replace with Joy and to his surprise even he felt happy just looking at her happy face.

Nidhi seated in far corner looking outside where it's heavily pouring. Ashu came with his cup of coffee and sat on nearby chair.

He sensed she want to be silent so he did not disturbed her ..after a while nidhi looked at him and spoke " what were you doing their , meeting another girl huh ??

Ashu chuckled and shook his head "no , I was just visiting one professor whom I know from college days "

Nidhi: I thought arman sir must have set you with another girl, so you went to meet her !

Ashu: No no , thank god he is silent for a while now ..dont know when he will start his blabbering again…

Nidhi became silent again , this time ashu broke the silence .

Ashu: nidhi , what's wrong ?I can see something is bothering you …!

Nidhi: uff…ohh its nothing ,

Ashu: Ok…so then sometime you cry just like that! Hmm Interesting

Nidhi: who said I was crying without any reason …

Ashu: so you had a reason…

Nidhi: yes I have …

Ashu smiled "I understood"

Nidhi: what you understood

Ashu: uff…Oh its nothing

Nidhi just stared at him.

Out of the blue Nidhi asked him" so your girl friend left you!?"

Ashu choked hearing what she just said

Ashu: what? I mean no…I mean I don't have anyone..

Nidhi: oh common …don't fool around.

Ashu: how you are so sure about it ….

Nidhi: Because you have stubble

Ashu just stared at her with open mouth …" Nidhi , what my stubble has to do with my relationship status"

Nidhi: ohh god, you want some more reason to justify ..ok hear me out , even after being extremely handsome and being such a famous surgeon …you are still single …what could be the reason!

Ashu smiled to himself "so you find me really handsome …!"

Nidhi bit her tongue " Hmm..Its just slipped out ", ashu couldn't stop laughing looking at her flushed face.

After sometime nidhi spoke again "It hurt isn't it when somebody we love walk over us…?"

Ashu looked straight into her eyes "so my guess is correct then, what's the story?"

Nidhi; there is no story anymore….

Ashu tried to read her expression but she just avoided his gaze and looked outside as tears welled up in her eyes

Ashu: are you always like this!

Nidhi; like what ?

Ashu: sometime crying, sometime smiling ….

Nidhi: no only with you! …

Ashu: shall I order another cup of hot chocolate. You might need it!

Nidhi: are you making fun of me …

Ashu chuckled "no I am not! "

Nidhi gave him angry glare. After a while she asks "So you never tried to restart your life when she left you?

Ashu thought for a while and then muttered "I don't know nidhi…I mean I don't know from where and how to restart! "

Nidhi nodded "you still love her don't you? "

Ashu became silent for a while as if searching for words to describe then he muttered to no one in particular "no…I don't love her anymore… I don't feel it anymore.Neither towards her nor to anyone.Its as if..Hmm…A part of me is numb to feel anything as such anymore. I don't feel it. It's not because she left me, because may be I was too harsh on myself in order to get over her "

It is the first time he ever let himself express, he found it very easy to shed all guards and show his vulnerable heart to her, he felt she will understand him. He felt she will absorb everything he said and actually want to hear more..

Nidhi listened to his words silently .after a while she replied" Ashuthosh, to restart something you have to shut it down first don't you think so?"

Ashu give her confused look as nidhi continues to speak" I got an idea….!"

Ashu: what idea?

Nidhi; will you date me?

Ashu nearly choked "what ….?"

Nidhi : yes , will you date me ….ohh common I am not asking shall we start an affair

Ashu : nidhi…what ?

Nidhi: ohh common , its going to be perfect way to shut our past

Ashu: Nidhi you are upset ..and angry , I understand ….but

Nidhi : I know why you are not agreeing …..you are scared

Ashu: scared of what ?

Nidhi: that you might fall in love with me …isn't it, yes or No

Ashu: yes ..I mean Nooo…I mean I don't know ….I mean nidhi can we change the topic .

Nidhi: no…

Ashu: nidhi but ..what if someone

Nidhi: I will not tell baba and you don't tell arman sir

Ashu: Nidhi…I am 35 , its not my age to date …

Nidhi: god! It's just dating …it means going out, spending some nice time together. No need to worry so much

Ashu: nidhi but

Nidhi: ok…where are you taking me to my first date.

Ashu: nidhi! I don't think I can …I am sorry

Nidhi : so you decided not to move on….

Ashu: nothing good will come out of it …

Nidhi: I know ..but nothing bad also come out of it

Ashu: so you think our going out will help us to move on…

Nidhi thought for a while and replied "may be…I ….I don't know "

Soon after that Ashu dropped her home .

He started the engine to get way from nidhi, who seems to be making him face things which he doesn't want to anymore… and then he left without looking back in fear that he might change his mind, in fear that he might agree to what nidhi just asked him…in fear of falling in love again !
