After that heartbreaking episode, the collective rage on this thread is giving me life again. ⭐️😆
The worst part is the irony of it all. Today nobody understands the gravity of Vicky's crimes becuase Dev protected them from the ramifications. He always did the extra work of maintaining Vicky's image as a sharif beta/bhatija/pati/papa so that his family could be happy, and apparently, he did such a good job that nobody believes/remembers the truth anymore. Everyone (including Sona) is so sure that Vicky is making a new start, but why do they forget that he wouldn't have bothered if Dev hadn't kicked him out and made it essential?
Don't even get me started on Elena. What right does she have to take Soha to the restaurant with her? Dev always respected his boundaries and asked her permission for outings with Golu, even when she couldn't care less about where her son was going and was only to happy to get free childcare. Is it not expected that she extend him the same courtesy?
But all that said, Sona did great today. The right/wrong of the physical act of slapping, that too in front of the children, can be argued but the motivation behind it cannot be, and I was so glad to see Sona make that distinction. Dev himself will regret the slap itself, if I know him at all, but right now he needed the assurance that the concern it stemmed from was valid. There is no doubt that Dev has anger-management issues but that doesn't cancel out the validity of the anger itself. As evidenced by what he said to Vicky, he has every reason to be afraid that Vicky will hurt his child or use her against him, and Vicky has done absolutely nothing to ease that fear.
Flashback: When Bijoy was hurling angry insults at Dev, early in S2, and Soha asked why, Dev took the blame entirely and exonerated Bijoy. He told Soha that her dadu's anger was perfectly valid because he had made the mistakes that warranted it. Soha learned to love her papa anyway, and her love for her dadu remained untouched in the process = happy child.
Cut to now: Vicky has shown no interest in owning up to, and taking responsibility for his mistakes but is suddenly being very attentive and available to the kids. As Dev himself told Vicky, children gravitate to the people they receive love from, and Soha and Golu are naturally drawn to this new, charismatic papa/chachu. Because they have no idea what he did wrong (they were protected from that), and Dev is the one who is outwardly behaving in a negative manner, they see Vicky as the victim and try to defend him, but in the heat of the moment, end up distanced from someone they love equally, if not more = very upset children.
