ONE RAINY DAY ...

Chapter 4:

The spell only broke when Dr. Sharma walked in and asked "Good morning Mr. Dixit. How are you feeling today?". Dev just smiled and looking at Sona just said "Never felt better!"

Dr. Sharma smiled at his response and said "I am happy to hear that". Sonakshi moved away from Dev's beside and murmured "I must get moving. I have my first set of patients coming in at 10. I will just take a quick shower and change in the doctor's lounge. Thankfully I keep some clothes here in the locker for such emergencies. Dev I will see you around". Saying that she left the room and closed the door softly as she did not want to interfere in Dr. Sharma's work. Dr. Sharma checked Dev's vitals and checked the notes made by the doctors through the night on the bedside. He looked up and tod Dev "It seems that your fainting spell was because of tiredness and overwork and irregular eating habits and not enough sleep. Lets wait for the last set of reports before we decide the future course of action". Dev thanked him and asked "Meanwhile can I work from here?". Dr. Sharma said "Absolutely not... you need some rest and sleep Mr. Dixit. I will send your breakfast now". And Dr.Sharma walked out of the room. He had his breakfast and after the tray was being cleared away, Ria walked in. She looked at him awake and smiled. She came upto him and gave him a hug and said "So good to see you better. You gave me such a scare last night. Thank goodness Sona di was here. She was a gods gift to me and Tina. She took care of everything. Did you know she was awake the whole night. Even I slept off after a while but she was awake the whole night by your bedside - checking up on you regularly."

Dev just smiled and Ria continued "I don't understand you guys at all. Both of you love each other so much yet don't want to speak". Dev did not reply and he said instead " Give me a piece of paper. I was thinking of the deal. Go to the office now and get back these papers and my laptop from the hotel. Lets go through it when you get back. We must attend the meeting tomorrow anyhow and I need to be prepared.". Ria nodded "Yes - here is the paper and a pen".

After Ria left, Dev leaned back on the bed and closed his eyes. Though he was physically resting, his mind was occupied and busy with the thoughts of Sonakshi. He knew she still loved him and was waiting for him to make the first move. The only thing that was stopping him was that he was very scared to hurting her somehow...again... there was no doubt in his mind that he loved her deeply but the breakup had made his very scared of scarring her again...

He was sleeping when he felt someone walking into the room and just touching his face softly. He understood immediately that Sona was there to see him and he opened his eyes and smiled and held her hand and looked into her eyes. "I am fine now Sona. Thanks so much for taking care of me and Ria". Sona just said "I was doing my duty Dev. I am a doctor after all". She tried to free her hand but Dev wouldn't let go. He said "You know very well what I mean. Hell... I missed you so much Sonakshi so much that I cannot even begin to explain to you. I miss you every single minute. Please don't turn away from me. Let me just look at you to my heart's content. Remember I told you before also ki is chehre mein mera sab kuch hai". Sona was mesmerised and on hearing his words she remembered the stolen moments in Dev's room during Neha's wedding when he had put the gajra in her hair and had whispered the same words to her. She was unable to look away. Dev leaned forward towards her and Sona was spellbound. Dev leaned further and before she realised it he kissed her softly on her lips. Sona just closed her eyes before they could continue further, they heard someone walking outside broke the spell and both moved away suddenly. Ria walked in and said "Hi Sona di. Good to see you here. Here Bhaiya I got the papers and the laptop". Sona was still not over what happened between Dev and her in the room and she was sure that she would have kissed him back had Ria not come back. Dev continued to just look at Sona and answered Ria "Thanks. Come lets finish the work". He was appearing so cool but inside only he knew how his heart was racing... Sona excused herself saying "Let me get back to my work. Take care and don't work too hard both of you". She came outside his room and just leaned against the wall and waited for her heart to stop racing. She was upset and she kept thinking "Let me admit it - I also loved the feeling of his lips on mine. Why does he have so much power over me. Two years he did not look at me and now when I saw him I realise I haven't really moved on. Damn you Sona". She went back to her room and waited for the next patient.

Dev and Ria worked for a while and when she realised that he was tired. She told him to rest and she said "I will work here and when you get up I will show you the papers". When Dev woke up around 6 PM he looked around and saw Ria and asked her "Did Sonakshi come? I am feeling much better now. Please ask Dr. Sharma when can I leave.". Ria said "Sona di and Dr. Sharma were here when you were resting. You can leave tomorrow morning". Dev was disappointed that he couldn't meet Sona again that night. He was wondering if he shouldn't have held her hand and kissed her. Damn it he thought... He couldn't help it. He was looking at her after 2 full years. He wanted to kiss her damn it and probably would have taken it further had Ria not walked in... He longed to see Sona again. Meanwhile Sona was packing up for the day. She was also very tired as she had not slept last night and today had also been a busy day. She was thinking about Dev and was wondering whether to go and see him. She was still thinking of the afternoon ...She decided to go and meet him once. As she walked into his room , she saw that he was alone. "How are you now?". Dev looked at her and said "Am much better ...now" he said. Sona did not miss the emphasis on "now". As if to answer her unsaid question he said "Ria is speaking to Ayan and will be back in ten minutes". Sona sat down on the sofa quietly. Dev asked her "How are you Sona?". Sona gave him a small smile and said "Am doing good here". "Don't you miss Delhi? I used to hate this city - it rains for 6 months and there is a smell of fish which hangs in the air. But now I think I am willing to like this city" Dev answered. Sona said "and why have you started liking this city now?" Dev smiled at her wryly and said "you know the answer or is it that you want to hear that from me?"

Just then Ria walked in and said "I have spoken to the Doctor - you are getting discharged tomorrow morning.Oh hi Sona di". Sona said "That's good and when are you travelling to Delhi?"Ria said "after two days".

"OK then let me take your leave". Sona said and started walking out. She came back and told Ria "I will be there at 9 AM and will take care of all the discharge formalities - don't worry. I have also drawn up a detailed chart. You must follow it Dev else you will have a lot of health problems later". Seeing him smile she said angrily "Why don't you take my words seriously for once". Dev just looked at her in the eyes and said "I am not a good person in these matters so someone should take care of this for me". Sona just said "Then you should ask your mother to find a good girl for you and get married to her. She will take care of all this. Good Night and see you tomorrow" and stomped angrily out of the room. Ria looked surprised and asked Dev "BHaiya did you both fight again??". Dev just smiled and said "My Bengal tigress is coming back to form slowly. I thought Mumbai has tamed her" and to Ria's surprise winked at her.

The next morning Sona was there at 7 AM at her desk and she sat down with all of Dev's reports and drew up a detailed diet chart for him. It took her a good two hours to that. She printed out the report and added the name of two or three good nutritionists in Delhi whom De would be able to consult for a follow up after a month. She printed it out and signed it and took it to the fourth floor and handed it to the nurse for adding in Dev's discharge file. She was little embarrassed after her outburst last night and did not want to see Dev so soon after that. But she took her chance and walked in. Dev was just changing his short when she walked in and Sona was apologised and was about to leave when Dev just said "Somethings never change Sonakshi... Apne ki to tum dekh hi sakti ho". Sona kept her eyes down and did not say anything.

She looked up after a few minutes and found a paid of brown eyes just looking at her intently. She began to feel all warm and uncomfortable under his unblinking gaze. "what happened?" she asked. Dev just replied without breaking eye contact with her "I am just looking at you .. you are looking so beautiful today... this colour looks very good on you. I must say your patients are very lucky". She remembered the time when he had gifted her the saree and she had worn it and he said "the saree and jewellery looked better because she was wearing it". Her eyes clouded with unshed tears and she turned away. Dev remembered the same moments and he too looked away. He said "Thanks so much for everything. Can I call you".

Sonakshi said "No Dev. It would make things very difficult and complicated for both of us. I hope you get well soon and please don't neglect your health. Bye and take care". She looked at him one last time and walked out of the room. She met Ria outside and told her " I have a rather packed schedule today so I am leaving now. Do let me know if you need anything over the next two days at Mumbai". Ria gave her a hud and said "Of course Sona di - who else will I tell. Anyways I will be in touch with you. Do call me next time you are in Delhi and we will meet". Sona replied "Of course. Bye".

Sona went back to her room and closed the door and let her tears flow for sometime.

When Ria walked into the room , she found her brother standing at the window of his room and looking sadly at the sea. She could make out he is upset. She told him that she would make the payment and come. As she walked out of the room, she took out her mobile and called her husband and said "Hi. I just had a doubt till now but today I am convinced that Bhaiya and Sona di are madly in love with each other and yet both are so pigheaded that they are not speaking to each other. Do you think I should do something". Ayan told her "Just give them some time alone so that they are forced to talk to each other. Maybe that would help". Ria was very happy with the idea and told him"This is why I married you. Love you jaanu bye".
