Saif Ali Khan on ex-wife Amrita Singh: "It's a pity things did not work out"

When Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar reunite, nostalgia is inevitable. The OG Main Khiladi Tu Anari duo brought effortless charm and humour to the latest episode of Too Much with Kajol and Twinkle, but amidst the laughter, there came a rare moment of honesty from Saif, one that gave a glimpse into the actor's reflective side.

As Kajol and Twinkle steered the conversation toward Saif's early years, the actor spoke openly about his first marriage to Amrita Singh. "You married pretty young, at 21, actually," Kajol pointed out, to which Saif agreed, adding, "So, I mean, I've spoken about it a lot, and obviously 21 is young, and things change, and we know that things didn't work out."

He went on to speak warmly about Amrita's influence in his life.

"Apart from having two wonderful, wonderful children, I don't think I've said before how important Amrita was in my life to help me understand my way through the film industry, as well as understand quite a few things. And her kind of contribution and help at that time was something that's been quite invaluable also. It's a pity things did not work out, but…"

He trailed off, the pause saying more than words could. Kajol then chimed in, "But she brought you up well," to which Saif smiled and said, "There were some really learning and important years, and, like I said, a wonderful mum. But I'm very lucky. I think my ex-wife and I get along well enough. We usually speak about important things, and usually when I'm in a hospital bed."

Twinkle, ever quick-witted, teased, "But you land up in the hospital quite often," and Saif quipped back, "Quite often, so it's a regular kind of contact."

The conversation struck the perfect balance with Saif's humour intact, but layered with maturity. Now happily married to Kareena Kapoor Khan and a proud father of four, Sara, Ibrahim, Taimur, and Jeh, Saif showed that he's learned to navigate the complexities of love, parenthood, and peace with grace. It was a rare moment of vulnerability coming from Saif, especially about Amrita Singh.
