Chapter 7:

Ishwari Dixit could sense something was different in her son today. He looked restless and thoughtful. Infact he said yes to all the unreasonable demand of Nikki at the breakfast table without any questions.

"Kuch problem hai kya office main?Itna kya soch rahe ho?" She asked.

"Nahi ma...nothing which I cannot handle" He tried to assure her and left after taking her blessings.

It is going to be a long day...he thought!

Sona on the other hand was relaxed. She was up late night thinking and after bading goodbye to Elina she straightway got dressed. The lack of sleep was showing its effect but today she could not afford to be late. When she reached office, she realized everyone's eyes was on her. In a day she had become popular it seems.

"You are back!!!" Christi squealed.

"I am back because I have made a commitment. And I cannot let one man change my decision" She replied.

"But what did he exactly say that you got so angry? I mean did he ..like flirted or something or did he do something ? "Asked Christi dreamily.

"I am not answering these stupid stuff. Is Mr. Dixit in the office?" She asked Tina ,ignoring Christi.

"He is in a meeting...you will have to wait" Replied Tina.

"Fine ..I will be downstairs" Sona started to leave.

"Actually Sir has asked you to wait in his cabin until the meeting gets over Mam" Informed Tina timidly.

"Woah...looks like he is scared you might run away" Laughed Christi." I think he has fallen for you. Else there is no second chance for anyone who talks to him like that."

"You think a lot Christi" Sona was irritated.

Today Sona got the chance to check out Dev's cabin since there was no one there. It was sophisticated and classy. Ishwari Aunty's photo adored the walls.

"Ishwari Enterprises"She thought making herself comfortable on the sofa..."I should have known"

Dev knew Sona is waiting for him and this thought was making him anxious.

He knew that money was the last thing which she will ask for. It had to be something which will make his life difficult. Nothing was easy when it comes to Sonakshi Bose.

"Dev..since yesterday you seem lost" Adi whispered."Are you thinking about Sonakshi?"

"And why will I do that? I have six hundered employees working for me..." Dev retorted.

"Well...but looks like this employee manage to ruin your sleep" Laughed Adi.

"Bullshit"

"So you are not thinking about her"Adi probed

"Why would I?" Dev was not happy with this conversation.

"Let me see...she answered you back. Threatened to resign and clearly you don't want her to leave. You both seem to have some kind of chemistry"

"Also she is extremely good looking...one more reason to think about her" Laughed Adi.

"Nonsense"

"What? So you don't find her pretty?" Asked Adi.

"When did I say that?" Dev countered immediately.'Damn!'

"So you do?"Adi was in no mood to let go.

"Don't you think you should focus on meeting instead of me?" Dev asked visually exasperated.

"Dev..just take a break.Go talk to her.I will let you know the gist of this meeting. I know your mind is not here anyway" Adi spared him.

Dev nodded and left. Tina had informed him that Sonakshi was waiting for him in his cabin. He opened the door and there she was...sleeping!!!!Blissfully unaware of the surrounding.

He remembered Adi's word "Also she is extremely good looking..."

"Good looking? She is simply breathtaking!!!" He thought.

"Dev...teach me how to drive the car." She begged.

"Okkk...in the evening we will go to the playground near our home..

"No...I want to drive on the main road"

"Are you crazy. Delhi ka traffic dekha hai?..."

"What ?I have my learner's permit. "She was no less stubborn."And tum to hoge naa mere sath. Please ,please,please"

"OK fine!" He had to give in.

But apparently this was a bad idea. She lost all her bravado once they got on the main road.

" Sona...for god sake open your eyes. You can't just close your eyes seeing every huge vehicle. We are on the main road" Dev was laughing." And slow down. Press the break"

By now Sona was shit scared. She was getting nervous by the second.

"Dev Dev...lets go back...I don't want to learn"

"Arey..but why? Initially it is scary but gradually you will get used to it."He tried to calm her down.

"Nahi..kuch ho gaya to? I don't have confidence?

"Confidence aa jaega...abhi aage dekho. And DON'T close your eyes! Press the break!!!!!" Dev screamed . There was a car coming from the opposite direction.

Out of nervousness Sona pressed on the accelerator instead. What happened next was blur to her. Dev took over and the two car narrowly missed each other.

She was safe but Dev got a bit injured. His hand...

Nooo.. She got up with the start. Dev was crouching beside her holding the cushion.

"Relax...its just me. " Dev said.

"You fell asleep..I was just fixing your cushion" He explained quickly.

"Are you all right Dev?" She asked worriedly holding his hand.

Seeing her panic stricken face Dev simply melted. How long can he maintain this I-Don't-care facade infront of her?' he wondered.

"I am all right. What will happen to me? Koi bura sapna dekha kya?" He asked gently.

It took Sona two minutes to recover "I am sorry..i don't know when I dozed off"

"That is all right..."

There was an awkward silence .

"Miss Bose...you said you have one condition"Dev decided to break the silence.

"Yes...but before that I want you to answer one question"Replied Sona.

"Sure"

"Do you want me?"She asked point blank.

"Excuse me?" Dev was not sure if he heard right.

"I mean do you want me to work here? Just fire me if you think I am not the right person for this..."

"Yes. I want you...here" He interrupted.

"Why?"

"Because I know you are hard working and quick learner" Was his answer.

First time that day she smiled.

"Ok..I am glad you think so."

"Now moving on...I am currently working under Mr. Aditya Kapoor."

"Yes" Dev said.

"I would like to directly work under you. That is my only condition."

To say that Dev was stumped will be an understatement. Whole night he thought about what could Sonakshi demand. He certainly was not expecting this.

"Adi is an excellent mentor. You will learn a lot from him. "He explained.

"I am sure he is" Sona dismissed.

"Besides I don't have that much of patience. And my temper..."Dev continued.

Sona looked directly into his eyes and said. " Trust me Mr. Dixit. I know "

"But I still think it won't be a good idea". Alarm bells were ringing in his head now. 😆

"Why? Are you scared of something?" She asked blatantly not breaking the eyelock.

Check and mate.

That did it. He certainly under estimated Sonakshi. He was right to think that he knew Sona very well, but he forgot that she knows him well too. Working with her at close proximity was not a good idea especially when there were so many unanswered issues between them. Not to mention the undeniable attraction towards her. But admitting that was out of question for Dev.

He looked at her..trying to understand what she actually wants? But Sona was better prepared this time. Yesterday's disaster is never gonna happen again , She had vowed and kept straight face throughout.

"Ok then...if you are so sure then you are officially joining my team today. There are two other guys in it. I will introduce you to them." Dev finally gave in.

"Great"Sona said getting up.

Once she reached the door Dev called her from behind.

"And Sona...today we will be working late till night. Maybe until 2 AM."He informed.

Did he just call me Sona?' Wondered Sonakshi fumbling with the door knob.

" I hope you have a car?"He asked further.

Sona turned and looked at him blankly.

Dev smiled." I thought so...will drop you home. Don't worry."

Now it was Sonakshi's turn to panic.

"No no...I can help myself"She interrupted.

"Taking a cab at 2 AM in New York City is a bad idea. I won't allow that" Dev said determindedly.

" No No"

"Why? Are you scared of something?" He asked raising his eyebrow .

That shut her up effectively.

Two can play this game!
