Preet and Meher both looked at each other.
"Haan. Bhabhi hum dono mil chuke hain" Preet anounced.
He couldn't help grin while Meher just narrowed his eyes at him. just then G3 mom calls Heer.
"Tum dono baatein karo tab tak main abhi ayi" saying that Heer left Meet alone.
"Umm HI. so tum Heer bhabhi ki behan ho," Preet said breaking the silence.
Meher pretty much ignored him. Preet was taken aback a bit. He wasn't used to this at all. Up untill now all the girls he had met where always desperate for his attention and would do anything to talk to him. Shes probably mad at me for before he thought.
"Meher. Woh pehle ke liye i'm sorry," Preet apologized.
Meher wanted to walk away but then looking at the puppy faces he was making and his constant sorries she muttered, "its okay."
"Kya?" Preet asked.
"Maine kaha its okay," Meher said again.
With that she walked away and nearly bumped into someone.
"Sorry.." Meher apologized.
she looked up to see who it was and the normal warmness in her eyes vanished. It was Daljit. Her so-called-chachi.
"Aagayi maharani London se? Lagta hain mera raasta katnewali aadat gayi nahin teri," Daljit taunted.
"Jis din aap seedhe raaste par chalna shuru karden gi uss din main apka rasta kaatna chod dungi," meher replied.
Preet who had just caught up noticed the coldness between the two women who were busy glaring at each other. Apart from Heer and Prem, he was the only one who knew Daljit's true colours and how many problems she had tried to create for Premeer. Meher must know too obviously, he thought. He cleared his throat and both of them stared at him instead.
Daljit quickly covering up, "Meher, kaisi hain tu. Kitne sal bad meri beti ayi hain. Thand paygayi kalaje nu. Aur yeh kya? London shondon mein khana nahin milta tha kya? Dekho kaise sook gayi hain meri bachi. Kitna badal gayi hain tu."
"Par aap bilkul nahin badli," Meher said under her breath.
"Tumne kuch kaha puttar?" Daljit asked.
"Nahin kuch nahi kaha... ab chalein sab intezar kar rahe honge," Meher said.
"Toh maine kab roka. Chalo. Tu bhi chal Preet puttar," Daljit said.
All three of them go to the dining table. Preet and Meher both sat opposite each other. Preet beside Prem while Meher sat beside Heer.
Meher soon discovered that dinner at the Junejas was a very fun affair mostly consisting of Lalit and Preet's kichai of each other.
What a happy and loving family she thought smilingly. Meanwhile Preet who was getting a bit bored had a mischievious idea. When was he ever upto any good anyways?
He kicked Heer under the table. When she looked up to see who it was he quickly pretended to be busy in his food but didn't fail to notice her shy smile to Prem. Preet quietly snickered. He loved pranking the two love birds. He continued to kick and hid his laugh after seeing Heer continue to blush and smile at Prem. He looked to his left and then was really confused at what he saw. Prem was also smiling back at Heer. Preet raised his eyebrows slightly then a thought struck him. He quickly looked under the table and saw that Heer and Prem had already been busy playing Footsies. He rolled his eyes, then thought who had he been kicking. He didn't have to look under the table again to know. Meher's angry glare was enough. Preet didn't know whether to laugh at his mistake or quietly apologize but of course because he was Preet Juneja he caught Meher's eye and winked.
*Cough cough* Meher nearly choked on her water.
"Meher. Kya hua? Dhyan se khau," Heer said.
"Haan Meher. Tum pani haule haule bhi pee sakhti ho," Preet teased while pretending to look innocent though Meher didn't miss the mischievous smile he passed to her after Heer looked away.
God save me from this psycho. Meher thought in her head. Thankfully for her, everyone had finished eating and started going to their rooms to rest as it had been a very tiring day with all the wedding preparations going on. Meher changed and fell asleep the minute her head touched the pillow.
Next morning:
"Uthho Meher! Kab se main tumhe jagani ki koshish kar rahi hoon. Ab utho bhi!," Meher turned away irritatedly as Heer continued trying to wake her up.
"Tum bhi bilkul Preet jaisi ho. Woh bhi aise hi dair tak soota hain."
Meher got up right away, " Kya di? Subha subha uska naam lene ki kya zaroorat thi!"
"At least tum uth toh gayi. Ab jao jaake fresh hojao. Kuch hi din mein shadi hain aur kitni teeyarian baki hain. Tum bas jaldi se neeche ajao," Heer said and left the room. Meher got up grabbed her toothbrush and towel and entered the bathroom yawning. At the same time Preet also entered from the opposite door.
"Oh God. Subha subha tumhara chehra dekhna par raha hain. Pura din kharab jayega," Meher said making an annoyed face.
"Good morning to you too Meher," Preet replied sarcastically. They both looked at each other then the toothpaste and moved their hands forward to grab it at the same time.
"Chodo Preet. Pehle main!" Meher argued.
"Nahin Meher. Pehle main!"
'Me first!"
"No. Me!"
"What's your problem!?"
"Hey, what's your problem? Washroom mein pehle main aya tha."
"Nahin. Pehle main ayi thi."
They both physically fought over the toothpaste. Secretly, Preet hardly cared about who was first or about anything else they were arguing. He just loved irritating Meher. The expressions on her face were simply priceless. And how could he miss the early morning opportunity he had got to annoy her. Preet tugged one more time at the toothpaste then purposelly let go, surprising Meher who was about to tumble down to the floor. She closed her eyes prepared to fall, but instead felt a pair of strong arms snaked around her waist protecting her. She slowly opened her eyes and stared into his brown eyes. It seemed as if it was the first time she had really noticed him. His messy dark hair, his firm jaw, most of all his captivating eyes. She felt herself getting lost and the angry look in her eyes fading and was replaced... by admiration. It was being reflected she noticed. Preet wanted to continue to stare at her and listen to their eyes speak when Meher suddenly snapped out of the feelings and cleared her throat. Preet quickly came back to his senses and hoisted Meher up on her feet.
"Mujhe shayad di bula rahi-"
"Bhaiya bula rahe-" Meher and Preet both said at the same time. Then looked at each other and let out an akward laugh.
"Tum pehle fresh ho jao. Main wait kar loonga," Preet started.
"Umm..thanks?" Meher replied.
Preet left thinking why was it that he couldn't keep his eyes off her face. When he couldn't figure out exactly what was his problem he just shrugged it off.
Wow that was akward. Meher thought. It wasn't when you were busy staring into those captivating brown eyes. a voice in her head teased her. Uggh seriously Meher. Get a grip. Wasn't this the type of stuff that used to anger you. Girl slips, guy caught her then the stupid dragging eye lock crap i see in those daily soaps. But this was reality. For the first time I just couldn't- couldn't look away. Oh whatever. Stop overreacting Meher. You broke it in the end anyways....
Meher quickly got ready and climbed down the stairs to Heer and listened quietly while Heer scolded her for being so late.
